Right kit for Boardman Hybrid Team and 33 mile round hilly commute

I've yet to experience crank drive chain strain on my two bikes, but common sense says there must be more stress on the chain. Equally, a powerful hub motor tortures the spokes. No worries if the respective components are up to the job, but a worn or broken chain is a far easier fix than a...

    New Bike

I agree about an ordinary bike - my idea was to use that for leisure/getting fit rides, not to ride too work. You are already losing weight steadily, so an ebike would improve that a little. With that in mind, a crank drive with no throttle encourages you to put in some effort. Your budget...

    Fat Bike Kit

Assuming your fat bike has a standard bottom bracket, would it not be simpler to fit a crank drive kit?

    New Bike

I reckon 25 miles - an hour+ in the saddle each way - is too long for a year-round commute. You've done 20, so it may be OK for you. If the main aim is to lose weight and get fit, you would be better off keeping the scooter and buying an ordinary bike. Ebiking is great, but you have to do...

Hill climbing, short range, small frame

Good point, well made. I think the OP needs to try an ebike if she has not done so to get an idea of the amount of assistance available. There are lots of hills and nasty ramps where she lives. It may be something gruntier than a Gallego is required.

News: Bosch announces 2016 e-bike system features

The 17ah Kalkhoff battery is an attraction from the punters' point of view. But from the same perspective, this forum is littered with complaints about Kalkhoff batteries. Self-sizzling terminals being the two latest examples. So rather than bragging about their integrated batteries, Kalkhoff...

    Punctures............

Opinions vary on the liners. Some cause more punctures than they prevent because they rub against the tube. You've obviously been sold a good quality liner, and more importantly, you've done a good job of fitting it. All should be well if it remains in place stuck inside the tyre. But if you...

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

Much as I like a clean drive train, yours looks a bit dry so worth trying some chain lube. The new sprocket may have messed up the line to the idler sprocket, although I would be surprised if that made much difference. I take it you are using one of the smaller cogs at the back to achieve the...

    Am i being unreasonable

You hardly use the back, so don't worry about that. An upgrade to Shimano hydraulic at the front is well worth it for £30. If you are in luck, there may be a cut off on the back, which makes things even simpler - you only need one.

    Fake Reviews

What surprises me is the person promoting the product thinks it is worthwhile to make a false post.

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect. Impressive range.

I suppose I'm bound to like this post, but mostly because it made me smile. Hang 'em and flog 'em - love it. The most crass and annoying apostrophe error to me is using one to denote a plural. If in any doubt about apostrophe use, leave it out - you will not go far wrong.

News: Bosch announces 2016 e-bike system features

I agree about the battery capacity. No doubt a spare 500 will be an eye watering price. I see Bosch are also pushing faster charging - about half capacity in two hours. Still a fairly long time to stop to get 30 or so extra miles.

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect. Impressive range.

No. The poster is a director of the sole importer of Kalkhoff ebikes. Anyone who receives a written communication from him in business will not be impressed by a fairly basic - albeit increasingly common - error. You may or may not agree with that in your 'happy clappy we are all here for...

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect. Impressive range.

The plural of Kalkhoff is Kalkhoffs. An apostrophe denotes possession. "This Kalkhoff's battery lasts a long time."

Carrera Subway 1 conversion 500w bafang which battery

Dave, I told him that, on the basis you were bound to ruddy well argue with it, as you always do. Anyone who knows anything about bicycles will tell you a 6ft 4in rider will almost certainly be too big for a 19" frame. That's a matter of fact, whether or not you are mates with the bloke...

Carrera Subway 1 conversion 500w bafang which battery

Fair enough. The bike parts of the Oxygen are superior to the Carrera, the motor and electric bits will be similar to the kit. So from your point of view, the extra £200 gets you a better bike, a factory quality installation of the electrics, a decent warranty, and immediate availability...

Carrera Subway 1 conversion 500w bafang which battery

Costings look about right to me. Worth buying the kit from a UK supplier. Direct from China can be cheaper, but you are largely on your own if any of it doesn't work. Warranty would be another benefit of the Oxygen if you could stretch to it. They keep spare parts in the UK, and are known to...

Carrera Subway 1 conversion 500w bafang which battery

Either a crank or hub 500w motor will give you plenty of poke. Don't worry about top speed, bowling along at 15mph-ish will get your 6.5mile commute done in about 30 minutes. You would have to go much faster to get a useful time saving over such a short distance. That would mean a...

    Best Value Electric MTB

More torque than my Bosch bikes, which are adequate. I doubt any buyer will be disappointed with the speed or torque of the Oxygen.
