Tyres: do they really need to be so hard?

Harder tyres roll easier, but there's a lot of other things which come into it. So as you say, it's not entirely straightforward. Tyre width is another one. Wider tyres roll easier than narrow ones - assuming the tyres are identical in all respects apart from width. Something to do with...

Looking for a reliable long range bike

Carrying three spare batteries plus charger is pushing it a bit weight wise, and, if you buy a Kalkhoff, will cost £2K+ plus the bike. Spare batteries for a woosh are a lot cheaper, but the bikes are not really designed for crossing countries. A better approach for your tour would be a quality...

Tyres: do they really need to be so hard?

Harder tyres are less likely to puncture and tend to roll better. It's a matter of your preference, so there is no right or wrong pressure. I run a few more psi in the rear than the front.

    New commuter

Locking a £2K Bosch bike at the station every day will almost certainly see it stolen or vandalised. I don't know your area, but have a look at the other bikes in the station. They will be push bikes, but I bet they are well-used, cheap, but serviceable - no carbon dream machines. A...

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

There's a boardwalk on the national cycle route which passes Shotton in County Durham. The area around it was deliberately flooded years ago, so is marshy. The boardwalk works OK, although it is a bit nerve wracking because there's a drop either side. Traction is good thanks to chicken wire...

    Hill in Polruan

They did, but about two or three years ago Brompton introduced a new cantilevered brake lever. Brakes on those bikes are much improved. Online chatter suggests old style brakes can be improved by changing the pads...

    NEC Cycle Show,24-27 september

The reason the cassette/derailer/chain system has lasted so long is there is nothing as cheap, reliable, easy to to fix, light weight and versatile. Development of most things is relatively slow. For example, when batteries were invented they were big and heavy. More than 200 years later -...

White Bear e-bikes - any good?

Go to the bike show by all means. But if last year is anything to by, there won't be many ebikes in your price range.

White Bear e-bikes - any good?

I agree the White Bear bikes look OK, but are over priced for what they are. It also looks unlikely they have much in the way of service back up, remote or otherwise. Kudos or woosh is a good shout, or a bike from Cycleezee assuming they can ship to the island. There is a Sprint which is...

Trying to get away from dongles....batteries

I left my iPod unused for two or three years. It was properly dead when I tried to fire it up and wouldn't play even when plugged into a usb socket. However, after several long charges it appears to be back to normal. No idea of the chemistry, but I was quite impressed given that I had...

I have some TF2 'bike grease with teflon'. Same colour pack as trex's, although it was a shilling or two more from the local bike shop.

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

The only reasonable conclusion is Jresa fabricated a story out of malicious intent to harm a business which is also a fellow forum member. If that's not a banning offence, I don't know what it is.

A load of questions re bosch classic and classic plus systems.Help please!

I have two Bosch bikes. One with the original small display, and one with the central display and thumb controls. I have three batteries, two that came with the bikes, and a factory spare bought later. All three batteries work on both bikes. The pattern batteries in the ebay link seem to...

seeking advice choosing sub £1k very gutsy climber in Dutch style

Frame integrity is a problem. The absence of a crossbar means beefier tubes have to be used elsewhere. Thus 'light weight' and 'step through' are mutually exclusive.
