    Barclays Cycle Hire Scheme.

I heard that one of the lessons learnt from the the Paris scheme was that kids were taking them and using them for stunt riding, so maybe they have made them heavy as a deterrence.

    Question on partial charging

Thanks Flecc. I didn't put my question very well. I am thinking about a situation where I visit somewhere and do a quick top-up charge to extend the range but don't have the time to wait the 3 or so hours for the battery to fully complete charging, e.g. may charge from say 2 lights to only 4...

    Question on partial charging

Knowing how fussy Lithium batteries are I have always assumed that it is best to fully charge a battery. Occasionally it would be useful to do a quick top-up rather than wait for the full 3 to 5 hour charging cycle to complete. Does anyone know or have any experience in using partial...

Cateye computers - easy to fit?

I have the Cateye Strada wireless on my Pro Connect and found it excellent. I particularly like it's ease of use. My previous one was baffling to use but the Strada is very simple and intuitive.:)

    "Your Freedom" de-restrict e-bikes

I wouldn't waste time on the silly Your Freedom site. The coalition already know what they intend to do. This site will be a device to enable them to cherry pick those ideas they already support and claim they have popular backing. Interesting to see that the top rated ideas on the site are to...

    Trek Transport+

This looks interesting. A new cargo e-bike from Trek: Trek Bikes | Bikes | Gary Fisher Collection | Transport+ Looks like it has the same Bionx system as the other Trek e-bikes.

    E-Ricks

Like this?: Wind power accelerates the pedal-powered rickshaw I have doubts that it actually produces sufficient power though.:)

    Kalkhoff what cog?

I fitted a 19 tooth sprocket on my 8 speed Alfine hub Pro Connect and it feels just right now. It did lop about 1/3rd off its range though.

From the latest edition of A to B magazine

Blimey, everyone's prejudices are really coming out on the back of this. As for the reply from A to B I see no mechanism by which women are discouraged from using this forum and I've seen no comments that would scare women off. I suspect double standards from them. I'm guessing that if there was...

From the latest edition of A to B magazine

Thart is so true. It has become a cliché of those of a right-wing tendency to trot out the vague term 'political correctness' whenever a view that they don't like is uttered. As you say, there is far more freedom of speech now than at any other time in history. Could you imagine, for example...

    Competition in The Sun.

Generally, neither do I. But some are more mendacious than others. The worst actively and knowingly spread falsehoods to serve the agendas of their proprietors, particularly those owned by a certain Australian chap.

In In Holland One out of Eight Bikes Is Electric

Cycling in the Netherlands - Fietsberaad Depressing statistics in this. Britain has the lowest rate of bike use for share of journeys at 2%, but has one of the highest death rates (6 deaths per 100 million kilometres) and one of the lowest for kilometres cycled per person per day. Needless to...

Wiggle. Here today and gone tomorrow?

I've used Wiggle a few times and always had a quick and efficient service. I guess being an Internet company that have no facilities for direct contact with customers. I do agree though that having no phone number is off-putting and knowing this would make me reluctant to use them again.:(

    E-bike prejudice?

I think that is a large part of it. There are also those who see cycling as 'pure' and any form of engine pollutes that purity. Not sure if this counts as pure!: Don't Get In The Way Of The Monsterbike : TreeHugger

    E-bike prejudice?

A good list Flecc. For myself I would say it makes a commute to the office possible that would not be practical with a bicycle. I do wonder why e-bikes attract such prejudice. It is just another mode of transport that has the advantages of being legally a cycle with power assist. Offends the...

    E-bike prejudice?

See the end: Do Electric Bikes Make Us Lazy After All? : TreeHugger Apparently these are the only reasons anyone would want to use an e-bikes: for fun dealing with an injury, or wanting to build up fitness gradually or at best a half-way step to proper cycles.

Running in a new electric bike

Thanks Flecc. That's very reassuring. A possible 10 years of daily use is way beyond what I thought the answer might have been.:)
