Running in a new electric bike

That's one of the reasons I decided on a Pro Connect Flecc. There may not be a simple answer to this but how many miles do you think you can realistically expect to get out of a Panasonic unit before it has to be replaced?

    Trek Electric Bikes

I had a test ride on one last year when I was deciding which e-bike to get. It was pretty impressive and I particularly liked that you can half pull the front brake pedal to brake using the re-gen, which of course helps boosts the battery (a bit) and saves on brake block wear. I eventually went...

    Treat the Earth Well

Very interesting piotrmacheta. Myself, I use a 150w solar panel. This was built onto the side of a summer house 3 years ago and mainly provides 12v power. I eventually hooked up a true sine wave inverter to provide some main power. When I got my Pro Connect I started to use it to charge the...

    Treat the Earth Well

For one person that sort of appears to be the case. BUT - say a train carries 500 people (or whatever the actual number is). If 500 people stopped using the train and used e-bikes, then effectively one train is ultimately taken out of service at some point, with all of the savings in energy that...

    In praise of tradition

Cars are the marketing men's dream. It is a rare car advert that sells only on the basis of functionality. They are usually selling status, prestige, image and of course a promise of making you attractive to women. I only once bought a new car and then I thought it would make sense if I could...

    Lithium-Air Batteries

IBM is also investing in this technology: IBM Press room - 2009-06-23 Made in IBM Labs: IBM Charges Up Research Into Next Generation Electric Energy Storage - United States Certainly very speculative at this stage but the rewards for success would be immense and certainly revolutionise the...

    In praise of tradition

I like this a lot. When I bought my daughter her first 'proper' bike, at age 8, she insisted on a mountain bike because everyone else had them and of course she didn't want to be different. So I got one from Halfords and got a strange look when I enquired where the mudguards were and an even...

    Lithium-Air Batteries

Perhaps your grandchildren may one day be riding electric bikes with a 400 mile range :) :"Lithium-Air Batteries Reportedly Show Great Promise for Extending Range of EVs" Green Car Advisor

    BIGOTGATE the downfall of Gordon

I've heard quite a lot of political opinion on this forum thown in as part of electric bike discussions. There have been quite a few times when contributors have casually thrown in political prejudices that I, and no doubt others, have found really annoying. People usually threaten to leave...

    YikeBike in the Sunday Times

What has it got going for it? On all the videos I've seen it looks pretty unstable. Its range is very poor and their own web site has a price of £2,995 (you can get two high quality pedelecs for that). There is no provision to carry anything on it. How would that tiny rear wheel cope with...

NEW - Tapered Straight Inner Tubes

That is my paranoia as well Bob. I think I could manage a repair with a regular tube. But in the dark and wet? Seems a no-brainer to make it as simple as possible.:D

NEW - Tapered Straight Inner Tubes

I have one of these kept ready and waiting in my pannier for a puncture. Seems to me to be a good way of fixing a puncture without removing the wheel. I would replace it with a normal tube asap however.

    Intrigued!

There are a number of PV powered light about now, such as Evans Cycles | Cateye EL020 Solar/Battery Hybrid Front Light | Online Bike Shop. Not sure how well they work in practice though.

    Ass-pushers. I _like_ it!

Cophenhagenize.com There is so much wrong with this article but comments like this: "E-bikes have already been dubbed "Lazy Bikes"...." shows it for the prejudice it is. The author apparently can't see the point of e-bikes. I guess however that he can see the point of bikes over the more...

    Lidl bike stuff from Monday

I've had a Lidl wireless bike computer for many years and it has been fine for a fraction of the cost of the brand names.

I see electric bikes becoming less niche market and more mass market with all the benefits of cheaper mass production.

    Panasonic Battery Issues

Thanks for that reassurance Flecc. I tried it twice, made sure my finger held it down and got 5 bars on the 2nd reading each time. I've realised that battery performance offers a wealth of opportunities for things to get neurotic about. :)

    Panasonic Battery Issues

Sorry but I'm puzzled now. I held down the button. It immediately showed 5 bars and then went out. After 6 seconds it again showed 5 bars but all lights went out completely at 10 seconds. Does this test mean I have full capacity? It should be a fully charged battery but I have also found...
