    Gidday from The Cycle Tourist

Your schedule is only 900 or so miles a month. Lots of commuters/club cyclists do that on ordinary bikes. Ebikes have an image problem over here, so you are inviting derision if you portray your adventure as some sort of distance attempt. You will be riding at the same time as Steve Abrahams...

    What size? Where from?

All non-S class Bosch motors are 250w/36v. The Captus has the cooking Active line, which is all you will get for anything close to your budget. The 'saving' is on the the smaller 300wh battery, compared to 400wh which you would get if you paid £2K+ for a bike. In Raleigh terms, that's a...

    What size? Where from?

A pair of Raleigh Captuses would do the job. They are £1,750 each - £3,500 for two. It then comes down to how much you can screw out of the dealer for a pair. No doubt there will be a few shillings to be had, you might get it down to £3,250 or so...

    Advice re kalkhoff sahel compact

The three points of contact - seat, pedals and handlebars - on a 20" wheel bike are in the same place as on a full-sized bike. What we don't know is if the Sahel saddle will go high enough to fit you. My AVE MH7 is a very similar design. There is a clear maximum extension mark on the seat...

The beginning of the end.... already!

Good ol' Col desperately trying to flog 'legal' KTMs as always. He needs to be careful being so keen to help those who would see unrestricted bikes banned. Come the glorious day, the distinction might be forgotten and all ebikes go the journey. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas - unless they...

haibike 2015 issue.. simple questions.. Can you help me?

The brakes pads can close when the wheel is out, making it hard to get the rotor disc back into position when you replace the wheel. To stop the pads closing, you put something between them, almost anything will do, a lolly stick, a bit of folded cereal packet. That will stop the pads closing...

New eBike centre in Mold - Mold eTrails - featuring KTM bikes

OK, problems with chain suck. The extra jockey wheel on the Haibike is unlikely to be much help because suck is the bottom part of ring hanging on to the chain. The drive belt on a Bergamont/Bosch bike I tested popped off the small chain ring. A nuisance, because it's not possible to wind it...

New eBike centre in Mold - Mold eTrails - featuring KTM bikes

Eddie has had problems with chain jumping off the small chain ring on his KTM/Bosch bike. Haibikes - and some others - have an extra jockey wheel to prevent that. Hard to say how common Eddie's problem is, but if you are wanting to do proper mountain biking, a bike with the extra chain guide...

    Kalkhoff speed sensor problems

Rose is the brand of bike. German, like your Kalkhoff, but family owned rather than part of a conglomerate. They aren't doing ebikes at the minute, but if you look under 'travel trekking and city bikes' you will see similar frames. Rose is often worth a look for parts/accessories, they reckon...

    Spoke tension

I've had a spoke come loose a couple of times on the front hub motor wheel of my Brompton Nano. Tightened it myself each time, although I don't claim to know anything about wheel building. With this in mind, I asked my bike mechanic mate to give it the once over - he's about the only person I...

Yes, and you have a handy drain cover in the middle of your lawn for a prop stand.

    Need Stand

The design of the frame is going to make using a work stand awkward. I don't think the stand clamp will grip the main part of the frame. The clamp, turned vertical, might grip the seat post. You would certainly need the battery out, and it could be there is a battery mounting rail welded to...

    Kalkhoff speed sensor problems

Yes, Alex for one. He's not been on here since August, so may have to be put in the retired section. My view is the Kalkhoff dropouts are designed for cassettes/derailleurs and are too spindly for hub gears. Problem my be exacerbated by the power of the crank motor. The dropouts on the Rose...

    Bosch Walk Assist @ Dealers

Walk assist works on the Rose, but it is quite weak, I do use it when I put the bike away. My secure storage area is up over a couple of steps though a narrow door. Easiest way is for me to lead the bike in, walking backwards in front of it. That little bit of power to the rear wheel does...

    D-Fx : Removable Rear Wheel

Advantage would be cleaner puncture repair because you don't have to handle the chain, deraileur or cassette. Running winter tyres/wheels would be simpler. Neither of which is earth shattering, but in terms of innovations which we will never see again, I think this one is better than most.

    Help

The NuVinci gear hub might take some getting used to. I've only had a short go on one and wasn't sure what to make of it. Probably not a good choice for a beginner, unless you could borrow one for a week beforehand to find out if you liked it.

    bh emotion evo city

Regen is no more than a gimmick, the amount of power you could generate over 40 miles might just take you another 100m - downhill. However, it's a harmless gimmick, so if you still want it a KTM Panasonic hub bike is as good as any. Regen does rule out Bosch powered crank drives which is a...

    bh emotion evo city

Looks a decent bike which is nicely equipped for commuting. Unfortunately, there's been lots of negative experiences posted on here about BH bikes. There will be two sides to each sorry tale, but my thinking is why take the risk on a BH when there are lots of other bikes with better...

Eddie, Don't forget to tell them what they want to hear: that you will shaft the punter at every opportunity to keep their costs down.

    Haibiken xduro rx

I admire your relentless determination to propagate your pointless scaremongering of dongles. But it's bordering on the tiresome. Hundreds of us enjoy the extra ridability of a bike that does not cut out at 15mph. There is no evidence at all the dongle does any harm to the bike. Your same...
