E-bike Costs versus Public Transport - Update

I didn't say that YOU could run a car for 30 p/mile, I said that I can.;) Its interesting to see the cost saving that can be made if you do your own bike servicing. In the examples above, you could save 50%.

E-bike Costs versus Public Transport - Update

...but you are not including servicing, and the inevitable repairs that come with doing 4000 miles on a bike. I would want to budget at least £200 for tyres, cables, lube, wheels, clothing etc. In OP's example, his maintenance costs were £880 - which would make the Whoosh somewhere between...

E-bike Costs versus Public Transport - Update

Yup, that's all in, over three years, 60k miles. Most sensible cars cost between 28 and 33 p/mile in my experience.

    Cargo Bike Kit Recommendations

Yup, it was the v1. We put a KU93 controller on it, so it was a bit more powerful when we'd finished with it.

    Cargo Bike Kit Recommendations

I have repaired and ridden an ezee kit fitted to a Madsen Bucket bike. I liked the ezee kit. Plenty of torque, reasonable top speed. I would say it was comparable to a BPM 201 RPM, running at 22amps.

E-bike Costs versus Public Transport - Update

You could also argue that such a well maintained bike has a residual value - perhaps £300? This would bring your total to just over 2k, less than half the price of riding the bus. However, this brings your cost/mile to 30p/mile. I can run a Ford Focus for that kind of money, with air con...

E-bike Costs versus Public Transport - Update

Your estimate of electricity use is over by a factor of 10. I would estimate closer to 0.7p/mile, bringing your total down to £2327

    Cargo Bike Kit Recommendations

A cheaper alternative would be a Bafang BPM/CST 500w hub motor in the front or rear. With a 20ah battery you would be looking at £650 (ish) by the time you paid taxes/postage etc. My CST bike will happily drag my 18st (110 kg) up hills, and I'm often towing a six year old on his bike, probably...

    Speeding... Guardian article

The actual volume in the milk bottle is irrelevant. EN15194 is only concerned with the milks flow multiplied by its pressure.;)

    Realative AH

Rule of thumb (in electric bike applications) is that SLA is about 50% of the quoted Ah rating, which is normally the 20h rate. So your 15Ah SLA pack will be closer to 7.5Ah equivalent to a modern Li-ion pack. It might even be as low as 6Ah. Hope that helps.

    Freego Eagle Stepthrough 10amp

I based my price on flecc's formula, and some guess work. Guess that new battery is £400, and 25% used. £300 value remaining. £1300 new price, so bike component of price is £900. 25% used, so £675. Total = £975. Add in 6 month warranty remaining, (assuming transferable), and some...

Sorry to hear about your husband. £799 sounds a bit low to me, they are £1299 new. I think you could start at £999 and see if you get a nibble.

    Powabyke euro

For practical purposes, halve the manufacturers stated 20h rate. So in this case, assume 7.5ah or so. It might be a bit lower.

    Battery Sizes

20ah here too. It's a bit like the man who said 'The best thing about having lots of money, is not having to think about money'. I don't want to be worrying about the odd mile or two detour, or a headwind bringing my range down. So I have a bigger than required battery, and no concerns about...

    Battery Sizes

Yup, got it in one OldTom. The 15ah battery will have more cells in parallel, each having to deliver less current, so the voltage sag will be lower under load.
