Cyclamatic Power Plus Flat Battery - Urgent, please help

I don't know for sure, I've never taken one apart, but I imagine it has a BMS in it which should take care of things. I'd stick it on charge and see what happens. If you are really concerned, take it out in the garden on an extension lead!

My first conversion project - Carrera Subway 2

Please don't do that. Those bullet connectors will work loose and melt in the end. All batteries I've ever had from BMS have Anderson Powerpole 30A connectors on. Available on EBay. I would buy a slack hand full of them, and also replace the crappy bullets on the phase wires, as they normally...

    Kalkhoff Sahel Premium i360 Harmony

I have 3 bikes without, and one with suspension forks. I prefer without. In my opinion, big apples are better than suspension from a comfort point of view. Perhaps things are different off road. I wouldn't know.

    That's cheating!

Pre-xactly. I would prefer to buy all my bike stuff from my friendly LBS, but they'm not open when I needs 'em.

You should convert of any/all/some of the following apply to you: 1. You already have a half decent bike you want to convert. 2. You have some basic electrical and mechanical competence, or are willing to learn. 3. You have a basic toolkit, Inc. Multimeter, files, soldering iron, or are willing...

How is the 25 km/h limit imposed by controller?

Many controllers have a limit circuit and often it is disconnected by default. Look for two single core cables, often grey or white in colour. Connected is normally the limited state.

    Bike for long fastish commute

Most bikes are restricted in some way by the controller. Many 250w bikes will assist up to the 18mph mark, even if a little bit of, errr, adjustment is required. 44 miles round trip is just about do-able on a big battery/lots of input from the rider. If you can charge at work then you can get...

    That's cheating!

Not to defend Halfrauds, and a long way off piste but.... I bought a load of spares this weekend. The trick is to buy online, reserve and pick up in store. Examples of bargains I've had lately: Clark's 8 speed chain, Inc powerlink £3.49 Continental 26 x 1.75-2.5 tube £3.49 Sram 8 speed...

E-bike Costs versus Public Transport - Update

Ouch! Could you drive it round the block a few times to increase you mileage and save yourself some money?;) Personally, if I were only doing 4000 miles a year I'd run an older car. In your case, almost 70% of your motoring expense is depreciation.

E-bike Costs versus Public Transport - Update

Quick message to Trex: You often complain that people are misquoting you. I'm starting to see why. My quote in post #16 is a direct quote. You have subsequently edited the post, and changed the content. (post #14 - life expectancy of tyres). Sorry if that's 'below the belt'.

E-bike Costs versus Public Transport - Update

I did not bother including it in my e bike figure, because the additional 3000 miles makes no difference in my case. The car will do 25,000 mile a year in my hands, so the odd 1000 a year makes almost no difference to the resale value after 3 years. Of course, I account for it in my TCO figure...

E-bike Costs versus Public Transport - Update

Coincidently, I found the spreadsheet that I use to calculate TCO on my cars. In a pathetic attempt to justify my bike(s) to the wife, I added a section that calculates the saving/mile of using the bike, assuming that you keep the car, leaving it at home on the drive. My figures include tyre...

    Cargo Bike Kit Recommendations

The CST 500w will run up to 30A, and they only make it in one variant (270 RPM i think) which is good for about 23 mph. When you compare the price advantage in buying from China, you will see why some of us are happy to risk it. I have never had a major problem with BMSbattery.com, and I've...

E-bike Costs versus Public Transport - Update

Blimey, that's an awesome warranty if brake pads are included! But if you send the bike back to whoosh (presumably they are paying?) every time you need a new part, how are you going to get to work? You cannot seriously expect to ride an electric bike 4000 miles and spend nothing on it. Even...
