Help choosing an electric bike conversion kit

Fitting a kit is really only worth doing if you have a bike that you really like, want something unusual, or enjoy the challenge. So, what bike are talking about ? Pics would help. A flat route of 5 miles is pretty easy for most batteries, but I get the feeling you are after something very...

Yup, those''ll probably do it. You want deep cycle ones. I will look up the part number of the ones I used a while back, give me an hour or so. Edit: VBat were good. 12/14 ah from here should do you..... http://www.vbat.co.uk/12V-Deep-Cycle-AGM-12-15Ah.asp

The cells you are thinking of are 18650's. They are a nominal 3.7v (4.2 when full). the cheaper ones are normally about 2ah each, and rated at 1c. So, for a 36v setup, you need 10 in series to get you to 37v, then 4 of these in parallel to get you to 8ah. So, 40 cells. at this point you have a...

    Sakura Charger query

36v is extremely unlikely to do you any harm. Because the battery is isolated from Earth, you would have to grasp both positive and negative terminals at the same time. If you did this there is a theoretical chance of a dangerous level of current passing through you, but in practice, you won't...

    Bike recomendations

No one in the UK can compete on price as far as I'm aware. I always reckon about £500-650 for parts (inc delivery/duty) on top of the bike. I built a BPM 500 rear kit for a friend the other day. I used a 10ah battery, and s06 controller. Works fine, although not as much grunt as could be...

If that's BMSbattery then you will have to allow a lot for postage (£100 or so), and you will almost certainly have to pay import duties (£60 ish). While you are about it, I would order a spoke key, and a freewheel. If you can, order a few spokes as spares. I have never had a problem with them...

Some rims have a wear groove on them. If you can't see a groove then you either don't have a wear groove, or your rim is worn out!

Another vote for good V brakes, although there must be limits. I have found that good quality V brakes, properly adjusted, will stop my (not insignificant) mass very well, and need much less fettling than mechanical disks. At 1000w though, I think I'd want hydraulic.

I have moved 5/6/7/8 speed twist shifters to the left side, and used full/half twist and thumb throttles, on the right. The shifter will be fine, although it'll work t'other way around, and the numbers will be upside down. Takes about 30 secs to used to it. If you have a front derailer you can...

A lot of it depends on your requirements. How fast How far How fit How hilly How heavy I'm sure you'll get plenty of useful advice if you can confirm those details.....

    Motor Phase Current

The problem is more that they become loose over time, then they get hot. At this point the insulation breaks down, and they start to short, generating more heat. I've had this happen at 12, 15 and 18 amps.

    Motor Phase Current

20a, for 2/3 of the phase. But it's a bit more complicated, because it's DC, going backwards and forwards. AKA A.C. but it's not a sine wave. Unless it is. So RMS does not work, unless it does. It seems that we need a new term, something like alternating DC. All that said, from a totally...

For those that don't know, D8veh's theorem states that if you place a cat and a radioactive source in a box, everything will be ok as long as it has a 250w sticker on it.

    Throttle cable splice

You definitely don't want to crimp them all together. Absolutely sure on that. I would probably twist, solder, then heat shrink sleeve each core, then the whole lot.

That's all well and good, but this has NOT been harmonised with UK law. However, a good lawyer might be able argue that you cease to exist in the 4 dimensions to which UK law applies when travelling faster than the speed of light. You would still be required to have reflectors on your pedals...

    Hi ,from zyctech

Once again you incite people to break law, this time the laws of Physics. What EN sticker does it need to have in order to travel near the speed of light? Will you have to wear a helmet? How can you be sure that it won't cause you to have sex with your own mother? Shame on you! :)
