    Brexit, for once some facts.

Go back before WW2... Let's get the undisputed facts out of the way first. At the beginning of the 1930s, the then Viscount Rothermere (Harold Harmsworth) owned the Mail and the Mirror. In January 1934, he wrote - under his own byline - articles that appeared in both the Mail and the Mirror...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

My background includes having lived in Berlin, as a young child, with a father in the RAF, neighbours in Brixmis, visits to the Air Safety Centre, Gatow, etc. Although too young to understand, there was always some enhanced level of awareness and discussions with my mother. I came back to the...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I suppose it makes a change from pointing at Russia meddling in our affairs. :) Just why are we supposed to entirely trust someone who admits (claims?) to have acted as an enemy of the country? Suddenly they are elevated to a position of authority. And just remember which stratum of society...

    Dutch view of cycling law

Actually, although only cycling again for a few weeks, I haven't yet had an issue on shared use paths. Almost every time I have needed to alert, it has been someone crossing (or about to cross) the road without looking, opening a car-door across me, letting a dog on a long lead run out - but...

    Dutch view of cycling law

Me too! Eventually, went for Crane Bell Mini Suzu Brass Bicycle Bell with Steel Band Mount - Gold Sounds OK. Too many bells were silly prices - this, at just over £10, wasn't what I would call cheap, but much better than the £25 and upwards which seem so widespread. Wasn't keen on gold, but...

    Dutch view of cycling law

Seen quite a few comments that you can call out just as easily as ring a bell. In some ways, I can understand that - but not for me. Something inside my brain stops me from uttering vocalisations in that sort of situation! I find voice control of computers almost impossible. The bell that came...

you want a motor with a gearbox in it?

Expensive, yes, but not nearly as much as I had expected. € 4,499.90 (Just far more than I can afford!)

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Are remainers only half the country? I'd hazard a guess that if you added in all those who were excluded in 2016 (under-18s being the obvious group), the balance might not be in favour of leaving.

So answer this: What is just over 261 metres long, is called Charles de Gaulle, has two steam catapults, and is French?

Change UK law to allow 30mph ebikes

I'll really start to feel old when I wear waterproof trousers to protect the sofa, chairs, floor and people around from my moisture. :-)

These boots were made for ...

Before I bought mine, I cast around (well, they are fishing boots) for reviews. There were quite a few that compared them favourably against ones that cost the best part of a hundred, or more. (Not better than, but possibly as good, or not far short.) About two weeks after my post, I have worn...

    Insurance

Mine is on household insurance - something like £30 a year but as it started part-way through, it wasn't a full year. I keep wondering how much difference it makes to the cover - do specific bike policies actually add much real-world value?

Change UK law to allow 30mph ebikes

As a very recent convert from lazy git in a car to lazy git on a bicycle, I have actually been surprised that the impact of weather hasn't been quite as anticipated. No - I do not like having to tog up in waterproof trousers. No - I do not like getting a soaking in cold rain. But I haven't had...

Change UK law to allow 30mph ebikes

Hmm, repealed in 1896 which, by my calculation, was before the twentieth century. ;) (As it was introduced in 1865, it actually preceded the motor car by almost twenty years!) [Many thanks to internet for making it easy to check up on "I thought I remembered xxx".]

Change UK law to allow 30mph ebikes

Being electrically assisted to 30 mph (or whatever) does not necessarily mean that it is faster than a "normal" bike (electric or non-assisted). Pretty much every day I reach 27 mph on my way in to work without any difficulty - hardly need to pedal! Quite sure I could easily go quite a bit...

And they will remember how much they saved by these unlawful fees: both in the costs of courts and the companies that didn't have to comply with the laws regarding employment or pay out when they didn't. A big incentive to exhume it it - no matter how stinking it is.
