Be careful when you say cheaper one. For instance on ebay/amazon you will see cheap 250w/1kw dual hubs and 500 or 1000w hubs, these are Black,large and heavy about 5kg. Known as direct drive hubs not really suitable for towing let alone for most generic uses for bikes.

All you have to do is fit the disc correctly, it should indicate outer or inner face. If fitted incorrectly the PAS will work when you pedal backwards so if that occurs one simply swaps the disc facing.

If the display doesn't switch on then the issue is between battery and display. First one needs to check battery output voltage with a cheap meter to ascertain correct voltage rather guess.

For extended warranty the important issue the electronic system, mech parts can be replaced quite easily with most being std mass produced. A battery after two years of age is hard one to extend but maybe the switch or contacts maybe the harder parts to source.
