Power cuts out as soon as load increases

Only if you are an electronics geek. If the controller worked previously replace with another one the same. If the wife laboured the drive whilst towing the heavy load the controller may have got very warm if near stalling speed for the chosen gear. Mosfets get very hot under these...

    Rear wheel rubbing on frame

Dishing in situ with a true rim in theory should stay true as you release tension on one side and tighten tension on the opposite side, however you can't guarantee it remaining totally true. I place a cable tie around the stay and cut the tail off so it touches the rim, then use the tie as my...

Power cuts out as soon as load increases

If the battery is new and the display remains on then likely there is a controller fault and probably on the voltage regulator circuit, a PMC regulator might be used or and series of resistor and diodes as well. These electronics are way above my head and most users, replacement is usually...

    Help! Budget conversion, Drill batteries?

Yes you can use cordless tool batteries is has been done esp with the battery holders. This one in the US is the best retro bike I have seen using six Dewalt power tool batteries, simply brilliant. https://www.electricbike.com/dewalt-cordless-battery-cruiser/ A couple other less inspiring...

    Motor

You will need a pic of the bike as 2010 was around the cross over years when the reliable Panasonic drive was replaced by the Impulse drive. Certainly 2012 ones used the Impulse but before it could have been either.

    Just a nagging doubt...………. but?

Next years bikes I suspect will already be off the board and jigs for frames in production for QC checks etc, etc, by late Autumn they will be coming off the line ready to go to delears who have placed orders. The ebay saga with dodgy 2020 Batribikes for sale very early this year shows us that...

Just how much off-road abuse are you giving your DIY bikes?

I have abused my rear hubs on trails and offroad with out issue inc a few crashes. My off road is local forest trails in forestry land , South downs off piste or anywhere I find to go. The rear hub/wheel is only as good as the builder who built the wheel. Though I am more sensible now and the...

    New here looking for advise

The Julet pin outs/wire colours are standard but can't tell you the sequence off hand. Use a metre on continuity/buzz mode on you cut wire/julet connectors to identify the pin and wire colour sequence. Look at the julet end on and draw it on paper including the alignment mark, mark the pin...

    Rear wheel rubbing on frame

The rim needs dishing to align the wheel correctly, this means loosening the spokes about half or one turn on the side that is rubbing and then tightening the spokes on the other side the same turn amount. When done you should notice the rim has moved over, if it is not enough you have to do it...

    Just a nagging doubt...………. but?

This years model will always be better then last years and next years will always be better then this years, it's an endless cycle and if you always wished you waited you would never end up buying one.

Unlocked 250W to 500W, not much difference

It feels much the same because you are using the same battery and controller, the 500w unlock might release 3 or 4 more amps.

    Dead battery

If it uses the impulse drive/darby motor simply don't buy it as they are one of the worst motors ever put in to an ebike, their reliability is among the worst kept secrets by a manufacturer in the ebike world.

    elife Royal with no life...

Your battery or should I say the cells are scrap, voltage sag at it's best with a load applied. The 41v starting voltage isn't a very good start point and the 5v sag using PAS is a pointer to severe battery trouble.
