A almost perfect bike that needs to be returned

This is what "Which" say in a precis of the new Consumer Contracts Regulations: A deduction can be made if the value of the goods has been reduced as a result of you handling the goods more than was necessary. The extent to which a customer can handle the goods is the same as it would be if...

    Kids on E-bikes

Exactly, only in the nanny state UK is there this silly age restriction, it doesn't exist anywhere else in the EU, and of course Haibike are a German company selling worldwide. So for every UK kid denied the possibility of this pleasure, there are seven kids in the mainland EU who might be...

Smog and breathing issues - what protection to use?

Looks like a simple and visually acceptable solution Jonathan. As you say it should do a few trips and if you can manage with using one every five day week, not a punitive cost. .

    Raleigh Velo Trail; surprisingly lively

Trouble with that name is that it will invite even more "cheating" accusations! From the dictionary: Loafer, noun, a person who avoids work and spends their time idly. .

Just bought a vintage LaFree as a first toe in the electric water

Just being careful not to apply too much force when tightening the spindle nuts. The pull on this earlier Panasonic unit is nothing like as great as some of the later crank drive units, so wheel slippage in the slots is not a big problem. .

Just bought a vintage LaFree as a first toe in the electric water

That was the original and best of the models, very light for it's time and still one of the easiest e-bikes to pedal without power that there's ever been. Swapping the 16 tooth rear sprocket for an 18 tooth will make those hills much easier but of course will reduce your maximum assisted speed...

    Helmets on electric scooters?

Since this is the lithium battery version it may scrape just inside 40 kilos, but in China these are typically rated as being around 700 watts. One of our members has a typical example in China which he says is listed as 680 watts. .

    Pedelec Police

Tricky, given that the police forces are suffering large cash cutbacks and are under orders to produce economies. Usually it's companies like Wisper who persuade a force to adopt a number of e-bikes for various explained advantages. Probably the best approach currently would be to create a...

Wired write up on Munich bike highway

. "Cyclists will be able to ride at about 12 mph, Kastrop says" No good here in the UK then, given our sport biased obsession with riding furiously at 20 or more mph when commuting, instead of sensibly. .

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

We've had 32 years of a free for all with throttles and our e-bike sales have consistently been among the lowest in Northern Europe. In countries like The Netherlands and Germany where they haven't even been allowed throttles, sales have been huge. The former with only a quarter of our...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

I agree, but of course those lobbyists are still arguing against the L1e-A provisions as you know from the letter exposed in an earlier thread discussion, so they haven't conceded this point. They clearly are not giving up in their attacks yet. .

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

Of course it's not the EU promoting the discrimination in these pedelec rules, new or old. It's the commercial interests of the motorcycle, scooter and moped lobby implying all sorts of false disadvantages with more freedom such as independent throttles. They fear loss of sales so act...

    Storing an electric Bike?

The most important thing with batteries, especially most lithium ones, is not to leave them neglected for long periods. Give the battery a top-up charge at least every two months and never leave without a charge for more than three months. If you neglect the battery you might find it...

    Creaking crank on new Agattu

Arrowed is where the three mounting bolts are on the new type Panasonic unit, frame upside down in this photo of course. Your Impulse motor will have similar mounting bolts, possibly three or four which might need to be tightened. Units bed down quickly due to the paint thickness in the frame...

We're all being pulled along by magnets. Wonderful!

Yes that's true. The petrol motored bicycles of the 1940s onwards had to have registration, number plates, road tax, insurance and the rider had to have a full motorcycle licence. That didn't stop their popularity though, in the trade we sold loads and they peaked at over a million powered...

We're all being pulled along by magnets. Wonderful!

You could have had that 60 years of e-biking Johnny, even 93 years if you were old enough. Heinzmann's first bicycle hub motor kit was launched on sale in Germany in 1922 and at that point others were showing prototypes, including one from Dutch electrical giant Philips. So they've been...
