Help needed in Canada, battery needed

Electric Vehicles NW 4810 17th Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98107, United States +1 206-547-4621 are probably the oldest established supplier of e-bikes in the USA and they have a history of dealing with Panasonic batteries from 2001, since they were the original US agents for the Lafree e-bikes with...

    The incredible Mando Footloose

The flaw is that one can spin the pedals easily with little resistance when the battery is very low or flat, but you still won't be going anywhere because an average human cannot generate enough electrical power to accelerate an e-bike from a standstill. It's always been a useless concept on a...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

The authorities seem somewhat muddled on this Dave, here's what the DfT said a short while ago: Although type-approval according to the new system is possible since 22 March 2013, type-approval according to the “old” system based on Directive 2002/24/EC will continue for new L1-e vehicles...

    Helmets on electric scooters?

Yes, they didn't worry about weight back then, that Lafree even had the charger built-in as well, so the bike was plugged directly into the mains. .

    Helmets on electric scooters?

Member Synthman had one of these and rarely got stopped, but I don't know if he wore a helmet. 40 kilos sounds a lot now, but at one time almost that was a very common e-bike weight. For example Powabykes and the original 1999 Giant Lafree That was due to the SLA batteries of course, and it's...

    Helmets on electric scooters?

Yes, these are generally accepted as 250 watt e-bikes since they are supplied as such, so one doesn't have to wear any helmet. One objection to their being legal e-bikes was on them sometimes exceeding 40 kilos, but since the revised law has now removed all weight limits, that objection is no...

    Skyride Manchester Tomorrow, Folks!

And our London event is the London Ride, but at 100 miles of London and Surrey, I doubt any e-cyclists will attempt it! .

    Royal Mail Conundrum.

I think they may have what we'd call Trade Terms in other fields, basically better terms for regular customers who give an ongoing revenue flow. A bit like having an account with a courier company. .

    hello to you all

This US company has a huge range of Skyline parts, though the BB not in the list. If completely stuck here they may be able to help if you use the Contact Us link. Meanwhile, if no response in this thread, enter a new thread in the Electric Bikes forum titled something like "Bottom Bracket...

Has anyone sought single vehicle approval and insurance, for a 250-1000w 15.5mph ebike?

I agree, and the delays while they argue are not helping the market, L1e-A type approval not coming fully into force until 1st January 2017. Since power level switching does appear to be acceptable, perhaps designers should just get smart to get around the legislation by providing ergonomic...

Has anyone sought single vehicle approval and insurance, for a 250-1000w 15.5mph ebike?

That fact that the DfT has merely added a supplement to the existing 1983 EAPC regulation to bring EU conformity instead of replacing with an EPAC regulation makes this mistake very likely for a UK supplier or independent builder. However, having looked though all the UK statements and...

Has anyone sought single vehicle approval and insurance, for a 250-1000w 15.5mph ebike?

This letter neatly encapsulates the ongoing storm about independent throttles on e-bikes in any class. The opposing groups never seem able to reach agreement on permitting throttles that act without pedalling. I find this somewhat strange, since a torque sensor in a pedelec is essentially just...

Has anyone sought single vehicle approval and insurance, for a 250-1000w 15.5mph ebike?

EAPC is the DfT's name for them, derived from the UK's 1983 EAPC regulation name. Electrically power assisted cycles seems to me to be a less adequately descriptive and more clumsy term than our electrically assisted pedal cycle. .

Has anyone sought single vehicle approval and insurance, for a 250-1000w 15.5mph ebike?

That would make sense since the S class just didn't sit easily anywhere in the regulations before. Some will have to be tamed though, since a number of them have been designed to a 45 kph limit. If it is 40kph (25mph), I can well understand why the motorcycle and moped interests lobby are...

    18650 explosion ('EE power bar')

Unusual to have an 18650 involved in anything like this since they have built in protection. Companies are getting increasingly nervous about any lithium batteries though, the other day I received a tiny camera battery in the post and on the back of the package was this large notice:

Has anyone sought single vehicle approval and insurance, for a 250-1000w 15.5mph ebike?

The EU still has various loose ends in the provisions. For example, the Construction regulation has it that lighting for L1e-A is still to be finalised, but the Safety regulation does have it finalised,. Meanwhile the MWCG meeting had members still arguing over the issue of their lighting...
