You can buff/grind them off ok..

ps. i got the HD not because of a speed thing but for hills, the torque is amazing, also it is whisper quiet, not that old milk float noise you get with some
same here, speeds fun from time to time but the hill climbing ability 2nd to none. ive just replaced my worn 11-30 (42t narrow/wide up front)with a 13-26. never use the 11 or 30. usually on 15/17 all the time, 23/26 on steep hills.

i remember the days of crawling up Forder valley hill, Plymouth on a regular pushbike ,28t chainring an a granny gear at the back...never again. Pushbike to HD ,the bike equivalent of my clio diesel to an Aston Martin.

@sparky, yes writing still underneath

When you changed to the 42T didn`t your cadence go up a lot or was it not noticable, i like the slower 60rpm or so...

wheres the best place to get the HD from then?
i bought mine from ELECTRON CYCLES they sell the bbshd paired with 52volt batteries. 17.5ah panasonic GA cells or 15ah samsung 30Q cells .u get a small discount buying with the batt of about £20. very good batteries cant recommend highly enough.Wherever you buy definitely get 52v for it. you get a gear sensor in the kit too.with the colour dpc14.

tiny bit bigger than the bbs01.quite a bit heavier, you wont notice once its on the bike, inspires confidence this beefy motor its a different class.watch 'bbshd 1000watt braddah jay' on youtube

is the 52v that much better?

Can they be de tuned?

definately, its the max battery voltage the HD is designed for gives even more power. By detuned do you mean lower assist level because of course you can use lower PAS for that.i set my PAS 5 levels at 30amps,25,18,13,9. with a 52v and 13amps you got more power than a bbs01 250w on max.lots more torque.acceleration ,climbing power, higher road speed.it will easily reach the mid twenties on that level.

i usually ride around in 15/17T gears ,dont have to worry about changing down when stopping in prep for starting again.so that will slow ur speed down and off road and inclines of course.im stating the speed in higher gear on the flat. u can have any speed u want plus super climbing power.just my opinion ,ive got a bbs01 350w too and like both bikes.

Right, the choice has been taken out of my hands, Mrs has said 100% no to the bbshd, so I can only get the bbsetm. She's the earner and I'm the stay at home dad, if I pushed it I would win or I could get the bbshd and just not tell her, but I'm not like that. I'll get that one and see how it goes and if I really don't like it I'll put it on her mtb and get the bbshd later.

The ETM is only 5a short of the BBSHD so will still be a blast.

i got a great one from PRECIE ALPS a french company. £60 inc postage.also try electron cycles.they do one for the bbshd so prob do a bbs01 too.i think that was about £50 in original red,(i paid six quid more for the re anodized matt black )

If they can get a certificate of 250w for a 25amp bike putting out 900watts id imagine the regular 250/350w bbs01b models will be phased out.

Puzzles me how they managed that. The original 350w bbs01 has a max 20amps .which you see when using a programming cable.to get the street legal 250w certificate ,they had to hard code it to max 15amps. so now theres the ETM version which is 25amps but still gets a 250w certificate, bizzare. Anyone any thoughts on that?

AFAIK, the ETM is not a Bafang product. It sounds from the spec. that it's poss. a 250w casing with the 500w motor and controller fitted, but that's only a guess. Controller amperage has no "legal" limit, so if it's stamped 250w and you limit it to 15.5 mph, it's legal.:)

Strange bafang didnt just do that with their bbs01 then.as the ones marked 350w come limited also to 15.5mph same as the ones marked 250w.
