Bobbies on Wispers?

I've seen a report that the Wisper 905SE is becoming popular as a Police bike, with both North Wales and Surrey constabularies now using them..

Although the return to bobbies on bikes may be good for increasing awareness / acceptance of cycling as a whole, and this is good marketing for Wisper, I expect it must mean the Police must be becoming increasingly aware of the issues regarding e bikes and max power / restriction etc... (I wonder if the cops' Wispers have the derestrict buttons? )

I am sure David of Wisper will comment but international forces have taken Wispers too. I believe the North Wales police assessed a range of ebikes at one of the Presteigne events and i suspect they will have analysed all the bikes carefully to make their choice.

With current regulations doing away with the Wispers green derestrict button, will their be a police raid on second hand Wispers, I wonder!!!

My current '08 model wisper doesn't have a green derestrict button (I removed it ), so looks perfectly legal (it's permanently derestricted )

Looks nice and legal, and less handlebar clutter. Perhaps I'll have to look out for speed cameras on cycle ways in future...... .

I wouldn't want to get rid of my green 'After Burner' button on my se, it makes all the difference.

More like 15/18 mph on the 905se.

They have always been illegal in the UK since e-bikes are supposed to be to be made to conform to the UK and EU laws, restricted to 15 mph/25 kph with assistance.

My Wisper green button is more like 12/15...probably due to the battery being no longer new.

Most owners report about the 15/18 mph, even when well used, so it seems yours is restricted in some way.

This happened on the later eZee Torq when the derestrict was changed to being like yours, rather than the former 15/20 mph.

maybe the resistor in control unit needs adjusting? Mine does, since wheel rebuild. wisper have sent me a new sensor just in case.......getting up the ETS to get it sorted as a soon as I can.

so at them moment green switch cuts all power, before it never made any difference that I could feel...maybe was never set up right in the first place going by what others have said on here.

When the green button is pressed it will give you assistance through the 15mph barrier, it does not make any difference to the power of the bike. And should not be used on the open road.

If ETS are having difficulties ask them to call service and we will talk them through.

Yes more and more Police forces are trying them out now including the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Douglas has bagged that trip!

Here is the first Surrey Police Force Bobby on his bike, he is managing 20 miles a day compared with a non electric push bike where he was only acheiving 10, to that double the "seeing and being seen" every day.



And here is the new paint job mock up for the Wisper Police bike to be launched this year.

And we are paying them 40-50k a year to ride 20miles a day!

P.S. re my green button: just have not had the time as yet to get it sorted but will next week. Have ordered the new 705SE today for my wife due April....will they def be available by then?

Wisper posted a photo and some spec of new 705SE recently and I cant find it.........wanted to show the wife her valentines present lol

I would have preferred to have seen the white and black/blue chequered emblem/motif border, (as seen on police helmets and caps), along the tubes, or intermittently along the tubes - then it would unmistakeably be recognisable instantly. Light green with police transfers on it will have people remarking: "Hey you can get done for that y'know, impersonating a police officer."

P.S. The police bobby in the first photo looks to be enjoying his. He's probably thinking: "All those feral teenagers on their BMX bikes that have left me huffing and puffing for dead before - they won't be laughing now. I'll 'ave 'em all from now on!"

perhaps that is just a bad quality mockup - many new police cycles are actually white/silver with the proper battenburg markings (blue/yellow scotchlite reflective panels)...

or maybe Wisper supplies the bike in plain silver or white, leaving the various police forces (both domestic and foreign) to add the rest of their markings, and other equipment such as warning lights/sirens (which some new police bikes have...)

Wonderful news, I think you are the first to have a pair, I would love a photo of you both on your bikes when you get the 705se. The ETA is 10th April but we can be more accurate nearer the time.

No not twin motors on this one, it is for the UK and they wanted street legal. The bike is the 906 which will be launched later in the year. It has the 8 speed Alfine hub gearbox and Alfine disk brakes.

Yes Alex this is simply a generic "police" bike mock up to give people the idea, we will have the real thing at Presteigne lights and all!
