Will Throttles be Throttled By The EU?
Thank you flecc for taking the time to make this clear for me, and others (again). For people like me who have very little knowledge of the eBike scene, but who are seriously considering buying an eBike it is so helpful to have people like you who take the time to share your knowledge experience and views.

Will Throttles be Throttled By The EU?
Wow, there are some very strong views out there... Thanks flecc for your initial response. However, My questions are... I have read that it is almost inevitable that EU legislation will outlaw throttles on eBikes. Any info insight or views on that? If they do, what system would fair better hub or crank, or would it make no difference? If the banning of throttles in the UK is inevitable, does anyone have any idea when the EU/UK legislation is likely to come into force, would it be months or years?

Schlumph
Is this an indication that you (David) and Wisper have 'seen the light' and are contemplating the switch to crank driven bikes? ;-)

Powerpedals tonaro compy
TylerD- thanks so much for the info re:Torano at Lawntech, Dundee. So happy they are offering a wider range of bikes from different manufacturers. All I need now is for them to offer Kalkhoffs and Juicy Bikes :-)

Can you let us know where this Scottish dealer is located please, and if you know, what models they hold as demos. Thanks Graeme

An E-Kit & A Giant CRS Alliance?
Scottyf its a 22 inch frame. Cyclezee, I've decided to go for an E-Bike rather than a kit, but thanks for the offer.

An E-Kit & A Giant CRS Alliance?
Thanks everyone, you've helped be decide that this is not what I want to do. The Wisper Alpino is the front runner at the moment. Anyone want to buy a very nice Giant CRA?

An E-Kit & A Giant CRS Alliance?
Thanks flecc (!'m shaking in my boots just thinking about that) Thanks scottyf I see! well that's settles that... :-) A rear mounted motor sounds too complicated for me to tackle. Sounds like I'd need to get it fitted by someone. Could anyone recommend a rear motor kit, are they more expensive than a front motor? I think I may prefer the ready 'made variety'...

Sorry that should be Daahub. Just carrying on the tradition of misspelling all things related to WHisper bikes ;-)

An E-Kit & A Giant CRS Alliance?
Hi all, really appreciate this forum. I'm looking at various possibility of, 'going Electric' and this is one of them. I have a Giant CRS Alliance, XL size, it's in great condition and I think the frame is 70% carbon. CRS ALLIANCE (2009) - Bikes | Giant Bicycles | UK / Ireland Would there be any issues with this bike that would prevent me from fitting a kit like the Dahub or other? Please Don't get all technical on me, Please Don't tell me what kit is the 'best' in the world! But please feel free to recommend a kit, all price brackets considered. I'd really appreciate your input on the question, 'can it be done with this bike, and, is it a good idea or not?' thanks Graeme

Wisper Alpino 706 or Kalkhoff Agattu
Thanks to all for contributing. BTW, just ignore paulmj21...he's from Glasgow...hope that explains his comment ;-) flecc, this is the real difficulty, actually getting to try bikes. I am fortunate enough to have a Wisper dealer in the area and I have to say I'd have no difficulty buying a Wisper on a number of counts. The quality is great and the commitment to customer satisfaction and support is excellent. It's just the fact that Kalkhoff or any other crank powered bike manufacturers/sellers do not have any outlets in Scotland, as far as I'm aware. To try a Kalkhoff or alternative crank powered bike would mean a round trip of hundreds of miles, and as I am trying to 'save the planet' would seem a bit counter-productive ;-) I know that some dealers will send a bike on approval, that's great, but it would cost about £60 in curler charges to send back if it was not suitable. What this customer needs is access to bikes, where EBikes are in the business cycle, (no pun intended) is probably early developing with fairly low distribution, the pace of development of eBike business networks seems to be powering on at a snails pace...with a heavy lead acid battery attached...and no throttle! ;-)

Wisper Alpino 706 or Kalkhoff Agattu
Firstly, thanks to everyone who has contributed to this forum, as a newbie it's very helpful to snoop around and glean info. I have not made up my mind yet on which bike to get, so this is just part of the process, I am still considering others but for this thread I'd appreciate your input just on these two as head to head options. I have no idea how to set up a bike, I can just about fill the round black things with air...that's as far as it goes... My proposed commute would be about 20 miles, some hills not too steep though. However, I want to do some leisure cycling (some off road) which would be much further and include, potentially, some steep hills. Against all my macho instincts, (at the mo) I've decided go for a girls... I mean, a Step-Through Reasons being, I'd like to encourage my wife to cycle. And, I presume its less appealing to thieves, as women don't steal stuff...apparently. And I'm getting old at 51! I am 6ft 1 my wife is 5ft 8 -Which size frame would us both suit best? Both of us are not as fit as we should be, put it like that! Gears What I know about these is that they have different names! That's it! So what's the difference in function etc? Throttle No Throttle? There are some hills around Monifieth/Dundee. How important is it to have a throttle? Battery 18ah v 16ah (New Alpino) Is the technology the same? If not, Does it matter that much? Wheel Size New Alpino 706 - 28 only? Agattu Wheel size? Again what are the advantages, if any in wheel size? 26 would be better for off road I presume. AND please feel free to contrast and highlight any other issues that may be helpful. I am fortunate enough to have a Wisper dealer in Dundee, not so for the Kalkhoff... Most people on the forum highly recommend a test run on as many different bikes as possible, but as many of us know this is not always practical. So any input would be greatly received. Many thanks Graeme 706Alpino Kalkhoff Agattu 8-speed Electric Bike

My New Bike! - Schwimm Tailwind
I'm thinking not only of replacement batteries when this one packs in, which will be some time I assume, but an additional battery (with greater capacity) to give further range. It looks like a great bike but the 'engine' ie battery and motor, for me is my main concern. £500 purchase price would definitely allow for the purchase of an additional battery, if they could be found! ;-)

My New Bike! - Schwimm Tailwind
Interesting! Does anyone have any ideas about replacement parts for this bike? How much a replacement/spare battery would cost or if there is higher capacity batteries available? I've had a search but no joy. I presume there is no warranty at this price

Kudos Cycles :: The new KUDOS HERO BIKE-designed to climb hills.
How about an option of hub gears as in the Tourer? Forgive my ignorance but, have you sold any bikes yet or is this a brand new business? When will your website be up and running? Are you a web only business?

300miles on a juicy.
Hi Rob How are you getting on with your bike? Which model do you have? I am 6ft 1, just wondering about the comfort aspect for a taller rider. I can of course raise the bar, so to speak. Unfortunately there are no dealers in Scotland to go test. Graeme

Lower gearing for the 906 Alpino
Hi David I am thinking of buying an Alpino 906 or 706. I am fortunate to have a local Wisper dealer in Dundee. Can you tell me if the 44 tooth Chainset option would be an extra or an option, or would that be down to the local dealer? I'm new to ebikes so don't really understand the technicalities, but took note of this thread as I live in hilly Scotland. Also, I understand from reviews that there will be a New Model 906 Alpino coming out later in the summer? Can you confirm this, if so what is the date they will be available? Wil there be an updated 706 Alpino? Are you in a position to tell me what the updates will be? Will the cost of the updated model have the same RRP? Many thanks Graeme
