July 27, 20178 yr Author Ok, so according to you guys, I should buy a bigger capacity battery, so (I'm hoping the missus doesn't finds out I'll be whacking £300.00+ on it), it's between the following: http://eclipsebikes.com/product_info.php?products_id=110 (Whale sized) and; http://eclipsebikes.com/product_info.php?products_id=144 (Dolphin sized) Other than the slight price, size and weight difference, are there any other differences to me choosing either one?. FWIW, I did look at Whoosh and brightonEbikes.. Eclipse had the better website experience and probably best for value (save for the bling ring, which i'll be saving up for a later job, depending on the performance of the stock chainrings) Thanks for your valuable input, as always!
July 27, 20178 yr Both have the same 29E cells and bms rating so the choice is yours, the HL is bit more slim line.
July 27, 20178 yr Author Both have the same 29E cells and bms rating so the choice is yours, the HL is bit more slim line. Will the continuous discharge current be ok for the BBS01B? it states 20-25Amps, but I'm sure i read somewhere, the BBS is 15-18A?.. or does this not matter?
July 27, 20178 yr Depends on which BBS01B you have, the amp rating is on the underside of the unit. 20-25a bms rating will be fine. If it is the 25a rated on then the 30Q battery will be better with the slightly higher spec bms.
July 27, 20178 yr Author There is are more than one amp'd version of the 250w bbs01b? Guess I'll have to wait for the delivery before ordering the battery then. Cheers Nealh
July 27, 20178 yr Author So, basically; the battery is ok with either amp'd versions 15A / 25A, but if I had the 25A motor, then I'm better off buying the better quality 30Q battery version (but will lose a few amp hours for my £££ )? I'll ask the seller and see what they have to say. It's due to the UK in five days... so excited!
July 27, 20178 yr Author Yes, seller just confirmed as such... it's circa 11:30pm in China! So, 20-25amp discharge rate is ok for this 15A controller? http://eclipsebikes.com/product_info.php?products_id=144 Or should I just get better quality and go for 30Q version? http://eclipsebikes.com/product_info.php?products_id=102 Difference: 3.4ah... what's that in real terms... 5-6 miles over longevity? Muchas gracias...
July 27, 20178 yr The 30Q like for like is the better cell and the pack is a bit lighter, price wise only a fiver in it. 29E battery has 6 cells in parallel (6p) with 5p in the 30Q cell pack. 29E battery theoretically has 20% more range then the 30Q one, in a 6p configuration the 29E will be pretty good and for £5 less you have the extra range and will be more then adequate run at 15a. Range difference could be about 10 - 15 miles or even a bit more but with so many variables involved it is hard to put an exact figure on it and each ride will always be different.

How about this as an alternative to the 29e 6p pack? Any opinions? http://s.aliexpress.com/nM77nYFr
July 29, 20178 yr It's 60 cells so quite heavy. i think you'd be better off with an Eclipse battery because you get UK support in case of problems.
July 29, 20178 yr How about this as an alternative to the 29e 6p pack? Any opinions? http://s.aliexpress.com/nM77nYFr Fed ex will probably calculate 20% vat & a handling fee on top. It will weight the same as the 29E 17.4ah as they both will have 60 cells.
July 29, 20178 yr Author Fed ex will probably calculate 20% vat & a handling fee on top. It will weight the same as the 29E 17.4ah as they both will have 60 cells. I ordered the 17.4ah from Eclipse on Friday, they organised delivery near immediately (as I ordered circa 3pm, it's likely to be actually shipped on Monday). Seems to be excellent service to me! Anyway, I considered the option of ordering from China (the BBS01B seller offered me this option), but I declined for that tax and handling fee matter (though I will be paying this for the motor, to be delivered this Wednesday... Its still a bargain when factoring in the DCP14 colour display I am to receive). The only concerns I have remaining are to do with a few previous complaints regarding the grease in the gears in previous versions of the bafang motor and whether my new BBS01B will need to be opened for extra apllication of Mobil grease 28 (as recommended by others)
July 30, 20178 yr The only concerns I have remaining are to do with a few previous complaints regarding the grease in the gears in previous versions of the bafang motor and whether my new BBS01B will need to be opened for extra apllication of Mobil grease 28 (as recommended by others) Roughly every 1000 miles or so the motor begins making mechanical noises - a fresh application of mobil 28 to the large gear behind the chain ring quietens things down again
August 2, 20178 yr Author Hey guys, does anyone know if I can drill a hole into the down tube and how / what tool I need to thread it into a bottle cage type hole (so I can then use M5 bolts)? Unfortunately, my bike's existing bottle mount holes are too low / too near the bottom bracket. Thanks. Karl
August 2, 20178 yr Rivnuts: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Grooved-Steel-Nutserts-Blindnut-4-5-6-8-mm-Serrated-Rivet-Nuts-Threaded-Rivnut-/121578747347?var=&hash=item1c4ea875d3:m:mlZLdTsp6Aq0O7FM934zVLg It's sometimes not easy to get your drill into the triangle to drill the hole properly, so you need to come up with a creative solution. i don't have a right-angle adaptor, so I use my Dremmel. You don't need to buy any special tools for the rivnuts. I use two strips of steel with a 5.5mm hole drilled in them. You want the hole about 1" from the end and the strips to be at leat 4". the longer the better. Drill the hole as close to a tight fit as you can for the rivnut. Start small and gradually increase. Insert the rivnut, place the strips over it and insert a strong 5mm cap-screw or hex-head screw with a washer under the head through the strips into the rivnut. Often, you can just screw it up tight to rivet the the rivnut, but sometimes it spins. In that case, screw the screw down to the strips and lever up the upper strip against the lower one, which needs to remain flat against the frame. That will pull up the bottom of the rivnut enough to make it grip.
August 3, 20178 yr Author Woohoo... 30 miles on flat, easy! All done and it feels great! Thank you all!!! Btw, decided to drill 2 holes into the metal and plastic battery holder sections... Seemed easier than drilling holes for rivet nuts into frame!
