Hub motors for thru axle frame?

Featured Replies

Hub motors for thru axle frames exist? or they at least in development?

There not feasible are they ?

Having a fixed axle shaft no way of passing through a thru axle drop out.

Just the grin, they also make a version for trikes with axle one side only (left or right options) so you could have a 3WD...

There's this one, which is a bit expensive. I've never seen it in the flesh, so I can't say anything about it. There must be a discussion on ES somewhere.

That's an interesting video, although a bit expensive at the moment. I like the built in torque arm.

I was noticing more frames appearing with thru axles, even road bikes and wondered what the motor manufacturers are going to do in the future. I'm thinking that if Grin have developed one then the large companies will have something in development.

I believe stromers use a thru axle rear hub motor

I get the impression there is no agreed standard for 142x12 dropouts to allow an off the shelf hub with universal frame compatibility - that was certainly the case when I looked into buying a thru axle rohloff hub last year
