backache

Featured Replies

To save money on a new electric bike. I have to work hard and my work is sedentary, so my back often hurts. I'm afraid that by the time I get the money, I won't be able to ride the new bike for long. What do you propose to solve these problems? Thanks

Every like 20-30 minutes, I get up and stretch my back

After like 3 hours, that won't work as well and at that point all you can do is have perfect posture

If using a computer make sure your work position is good with the monitor raised up to just below eye height and the keyboard fairly low so the bottom part of your arms are level or pointing slightly down. If using a laptop regularly buy a separate keyboard.

Back is down to posture and in the same position for too long. Comfy chairs/seats can be detrimental for posture.

How and ware does your back hurt ?

Are saddle stools good for your back?

Iv used one at work, I started by using it just for an hour at a time because it forces you to use you back muscles a lot more than normal and that in itself can give you back ache. Before the lockdown I was using it for half a day every 2nd or 3rd day.

this is what the net has to say

Using a saddle chair has many proven benefits due to its forward tilting shape: According to a 2018 study, a saddle chair encourages good posture better than astandard office chair. The increased hip-to-knee angle takes the pressure off thelumbar spine. As such, it is very effective in preventing lower back pain.

If you're dealing with your back pain while working then a supportive and comfortable chair is your need and you should definitely invest on it. I realized the same thing 10 months ago and bought a eurotech ergohuman mesh chair after reading this article. Amazon relivered it within 2-3 days and I really had good sitting experience on it.

I find general activity is good for my back, and both walking and cycling as well as other general moving around activities all help.

Sitting in one position for too long is bad for my back.

I have also found stretching exercises can be good. One of the things to be aware about cycling, brilliant exercise though it is, is that it can make your leg muscles tighter and less flexible and prone to cramping and just a little bit of stretching will keep that at bay.

coincidentally as this stretching and back pain thread has been resurrected ;)my current analog project is just back from the welders. I’ve stretched the frame of my spare parts bike to get a bolt upright and flat foot riding position, now I can get both feet flat on the ground while seated  I’ve added 80mm to the chain stays and bent the seat stays close to where the join the seat tube.

This is just a shakedown build so I can ride it around for a few days to make sure everything is ok prior to getting it powder coated(candy apple red)4ACD190F-E411-4A6F-BDB5-E3EF4392C1D5.thumb.jpeg.82543e4ebf8ec8aa983e2fe408e9a1a6.jpeg

At least it keeps me happy and it passes the time:D

That is cool! Reminds me of a Rans Crankforward bike.

I’d been looking for a crank forward for some time, the only one I’d seen was 3hrs drive away and the auction started at £750 ! Converting a bike I already had only cost my workshop time!, £30 for welding and another £70 when I get it powder coated

ive probably done 50miles since the frame mods and it’s solid (inc rough tracks and bumping down curbs)

After many weeks of being messed around by my local powder coaters, I finally found a chap the other side of Milton Keens (26miles away) to do the coating. it was another few weeks before it was finished but I’m more than happy with the final results.

It’s a pleasure to ride but with one drawback, riding at least twice a week on conventional bikes (my e-cube or manual mtb) I’m discovering

the new riding position uses different leg muscles (or the same muscles differently), not a problem on the flat or minor hills but pushing it a bit on a slightly longer / steeper hill starts to warm up the thighs a bit. I’m sure I’ll get used to it ;)

The candy red certainly “pops” when the suns out.

The more laid back position (as opposed to being directly over the cranks) is as with bent riders and you will be exercising different leg muscles.

A shameless plug for cbd oil, masking the issue with drugs is not the answer leading to a path of dependency for even more once the craving starts.

The ward was full of ill people taking state sanctioned synthetic opiates, the last time I was interned in one... they had to have faeces periodically forced out of them using chemicals (synthetic opiates constipate). I can still smell the godawfull stench of long drawn out night-time assisted sh*tting sessions of those ill people, and recall my nostrils stinging from the chemicals used to make that happen. It was hell. Nurses deserve much higher pay! The rest of time those patients were high, having their kidneys damaged by synthetic opiates.

My job requires me to sit on a chair for most of the day, so when I got backache it was (my physio told me) because of weakened transverse abdominis - my diligent application of the prescribed set of exercises to strengthen that muscle worked, but it took about two weeks. I just do them whenever I experience the same problem. Sweating a bit, is safer than surgery. It's all about the muscle balance which keeps a heathy looking "S" shape of your spine. I got referred to a physio by the GP, after weeks of ibuprofen - if you keep going back in pain with the same problem, they have to escalate your case; actually do something. I guess if the physiotheraphy hadn't worked, it may have progressed to suggestions of surgery, which I would have avoided at all costs for as long as possible. The risk of horrible things happening is too high, with back surgery...

I have used a very good osteopath/ sports injury specialist over the years after first going to him with a football injury following a recommendation.

Whenever I have gone to see him with whatever injury, as well as the treatment, he always gives me specific exercises for whatever my problem of that moment is.

I have found that if I follow the exercise regime diligently I do not need a second appointment.

Now whenever I I get a recurrence of my back problem, rather than make an appointment, I start using the specific exercises he has previously given me.

Doing this I can generally alleviate the problem. My Osteopath is a really nice guy, but the exercises he has given me have put him out of pocket.

He owns the practice and all the other osteopaths, dietitians, etc work for him so I think he can afford it!

The job I have just retired from required me to sit down for long periods and many of my colleagues suffered back problems.

Now that I am retired I guess it will be the sofa and my own laziness instead that will be causing the problem!

CBD reduces anxiety in people with certain disorders. There is no evidence linking CBD to a negative effect in the treatment of anxiety disorders, and the authors of the scientific paper call for further research. I found out that they contained 0,2% cannabis extract on https://highthc.shop/blog/ and decided to try. IDK how, but this thing has helped me, and I can even fall asleep faster and feel more harmonious.

Meet with a physical therapist. They can evaluate your posture, strength imbalances and recommend targeted exercises to strengthen your core and back.
