Fitting a new controller Display

Featured Replies

Please help

I have purchased a new led display to replace my old worn out button one.

The old display had 5 wires

Red black blue pink purple which corresponds to the controller.

My new display has 4 wires

Red black blue green.

I have connected them up like this

Red/red

black/black

Blue/pink

Green/blue

And have the purple wire over!

Everthing works (including the throttle) accept the PAS.

Now matter what speed (low med high) you put it in it doesnt change.

I tried Blue/blue but the throttle didnt work.

Any advice please?

The new display is not compatible with your controller, hence limited function of PAS. Unless you can get an original display you will need to replace the display and controller box as a matching pair. Your new display is an analog one, I don't think you will find a controller to match it.

Oh dam

So if I purchased a contoller with the display it should be ok?

Will all the other connections match ie

Motor and hall?

See photo

Can't really tell much from that photo, but assuming your motor has hall sensors, then it should do the job. You may have to change connectors or do some soldering. Looks like it may have self learning wires to sinc. the motor.
5 wire displays are digital and have comm's wires tx/rx to and from the the display & controller, 4 wire displays tend to be analogue and quite often will work with any analogue controller. Compatibility is the issue.

Thank you

I am going to buy a new controller for the new analogue display.

Will the throttle still work independently?

Found a controller on Amazon that comes with the LED display (see photo) but someone posted this review...

Works Ok but if you have throttle and PAS then you can only use 1 of them.

Dont bother speaking to the supplier as they know nothing about the product as they sell all kinds of other rubbish.

So called PAS connector has 5V/OV/4.75v lines. Normal magnetic/hal PAS sensors need 5V/0V and the sensor line that goes from 0V to 5V as you pedal.

What does he mean?

I have a twist throttle which I can currently use on my old worn out display independently from the PAS.

Does he mean it wont work even thought the new controller has PAS and Throttle wires?

If it has dedicated PAS & throttle then both should work independently when wired up. £16 is very cheap for a controller and display, how reliable they are is another issue.

Thanks Nealh

I have ordered one for £27 I hope it works?

Generally we recommend the KT controllers and displays, they are dearer but give much better control characteristics and are pretty much bullet proof.

I won't say most of us use them but those who build there own hub kits tend to use them more.
