Spraying a bike

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how much it would cost to spray a frame a different colour? Is this something that can be attempted or is a bike shop required?

During lockdown I had a frame shot blasted and powder coated candy red over a silver base £80, at that time a single colour was £60

I have used Halfords aerosols in the past , although they do a decent job the finish is not very durable (anything rubbing against it wears through quite easily)

Nice!, Gringo. Thanks

I got my 20+ yr old Halfords Apollo shot blasted and sprayed dark grey for £60 by a local Glasgow company, they did the frame and forks (which I bent shortly afterwards in a crash and had to bin), did a pretty good job too! I'd left one of the plastic routing guides for cables under the bracket that came off during blasting, she retrieved it broken from the machine and emailed me and also got a replacement from local bike shop all included in the £60!1718301133000.thumb.png.f4edb5b797ef06e9a42f380a01bcb06e.png
Donor bike looked like this (well it was my sisters bike that lay in parents shed for donkeys yrs), anyway, tell me you wouldn't respray this and put a nice rear hub on it....?? ;) 1718331441786.thumb.png.0d5eee144b97e1c44e1f206d23d7ac23.png

If the rest of the paintwork is as good as in the photo I would just remove the Apollo decals (hairdryer). I found cantilever brakes inadequate with my conversion and substituted v-brakes, which are OK, but if I could get a 26" wheel, 1" steerer rigid fork with disc mounts I'd much prefer disc brakes.

I had another non-e bike stripped and powder coated (Midnight Blue) during lock down by a local company for £100.00.

Although they are a general industrial coaters, they came recommended as being good with bike frames and did a good job. Be aware that there are many coaters that just do car alloy wheels and have no experience with bike frames. There are horror stories on the web about poor finish and clogged threads.

It was resprayed 3yrs ago now, I did not like the purple shade!

V-brakes have been good for me.

Yes, best to ask if they have done bikes before, they should be taping up all the threads etc., I kept finding shot rattling and coming out of frame for a cpl days....
