August 31, 2025Aug 31 He doesn't need anything special. He can set his throttle to legal and restrict speed to 15 mph with any normal KT controller and LCD, just like we do. That's about £60. It sounds like he won't be happy with that. I read it that he still wants the best of both worlds.
August 31, 2025Aug 31 Somewhere above I saw that the OP has contacted the manufacturer and they said to replace all the bits he had replaced with the original ones But I cannot see anywhere that he says what these bits are not that might be a list of irrelevant parts for the purpose of this thread but it might not be so it would help if he posted what bit he has replaced
August 31, 2025Aug 31 It sounds like he won't be happy with that. I read it that he still wants the best of both worlds. The speed limit could be unresticted in the in the settings while on private land if that is what you are in to. There would also have a decent amount of current on the road instead of some unnecessary artificial assist level limit that is solely there as a marketing gimmick.
August 31, 2025Aug 31 I may be wrong, but I seem to remember that as well as limiting the speed to 15 mph, the restriction cut down the power as well, which made it pretty useless. As I already said, he can achieve everything he wants with a new controller and LCD. It only takes ten seconds to adjust the speed any time he wants.
August 31, 2025Aug 31 Direct drive 1000W marked 250W? Could this become a S Pedelec? If there was insurance available for S Pedelecs.

August 31, 2025Aug 31 The issue is the power RATED by THE MANUFACTURER when it was made and sold, not what you have done to lower its actual power output. Your motor can never be made legal because it was rated at 1000 watts. Sorry to disappoint. EDIT: If you have a driving license, you will likely collect a large number of penalty points if they decide to report the offences you commit by riding it in a public place or on roads. It is classed as a motor vehicle and subject to all the motor vehicle regulations: Driving a motor vehicle without a licence plate. Driving without insurance Driving without an MOT Driving a motor cycle without a helmet Probably several construction and use regulations regarding brake levers, lights and other matters. I think all or most of these probably carry three penalty points. If you don't have a driving license, you can add: Driving a motor vehicle without a license Driving without L plates. I doubt you'd think it was worth riding it if you got caught. Like Saneagle said - they are coming down on illegal bikes now. It isn't as it was before. Apologies for this post. I had not read the whole thread coming across it in the 'What's New section, and had not realised that the poster has private land to ride the bike on. I would have deleted it but it is too late to remove it now.
