    Hello and help please!

Check that the magnet disk is close enough to the sensor. Compare it to the other bike. A few mm is normal.

    Hello and help please!

Ok, so the brake sensor is likely to be 5v on red, 0v on black and return signal (0 or 5v) on green. You need to find a way to measure between black/green while the lever is operated. If it's working, you will see a voltage change.

    Hello and help please!

Ok, the three cables are 5v, 0v, and a return signal from the hall sensor. With the meter on volts, you should be able to ID them all - as long as set to volts you can poke the leads in where you like. The colours will give us a clue, pics will help....

    Hello and help please!

Try disconnecting the brake sensors to eliminate them first. Do the same on your wife's bike to prove that disconnecting them would allow the bike to run.

What do you carry in your repair kit?

My wife uses E45 moisturiser, in a pump bottle thing. It fits in a bottle holder, and the top pops right off. Cover it with duct tape, makes a good tool holder. I've got one with a ku65 and wiring in it on my backpack battery bike. Yer 'tis...

Bear with me, still new here

A wiser man than me once said "Money can't buy you happiness, but It can buy you a bike. That's pretty close."

    Old dog?

Yes, no, and sort of. Assuming were talking about a brushless DC motor, then it will have three coils. They are all joined to form a ring of coils. Three wires are then taken off, each between a pair of coils. In order to move the motor, different coils need to be energised at different times...

    Presta valves

Those Continentals above have the locking ring, which is why I like 'em. Also, they will go from 1.75 to 2.5. I've never used them below 1.95, but used them plenty at 2.5 without a problem.

    Presta valves

These are my favourites, £2.39 each: http://www.halfords.com/cycling/cycling-parts/inner-tubes/continental-mountain-bike-inner-tube-26-x-1-75-2-5

What maintenance do you do on you bike?

Last time I bought a chain, it cost £3.49. A bottle of chain lube was £8.99. A new chain can probably do 200 miles before it needs to be lubed. More if you consider it disposable. It might be cheaper to replace the chain every 200 miles, and never lube it!

    Aluminium and Front Hubs

I ran a 350 watt (ish) front drive motor in a Suntour XCT suspension fork, for over 1000 miles, without any torque arms. I'm a big chap, but I did not have a problem. If I were to do it again, I'd use a torque arm for peace of mind.

    Wiggo and Cav in ToB

They're coming right through my village. Do you think I ought to race them up the hill?

    Liability....

I guess the difference is that most e bike owners have assets and can therefore be perused for compensation, while the yobs in cars probably don't.

Who wants to steal my bike?

If you leave a car at home, back it right up on to the garage door, lock it, and take the keys with you.

Fat Guy Needs a Folding Conversion on Train Commute!

You can get away with single speed if the route is very flat or you are really strong. Most situations require a few gears. 3 is about right, hub is my preference.

Full speed/ coasting and cruising economy.

That's got to be wrong - in a 26" wheel is about 100mph!

    Inkjet printer cartridges

I gave up with Epsons a few years back and switched to Canon. Recently my brother bought an Epson. Nothing but trouble, binned it. He's now back to Canon and we both use compatible inks without any problem - 4 sets for £10 from Ebay.

    Just a toy.

I confess that a few years ago I was in a similar situation. Just for fun can be a tough sell. I worked out that I could save about 20p/mile for every journey that I made on the bike, leaving the car at home on the drive. So, your £600 bike will pay for itself in 3000 miles. Very...
