Alfine 8 experts -please help !

From Sheldon Brown: "A red band on the shell identifies a Nexus hub with needle-bearing pinions, for higher efficiency. The lower efficiency of 4th gear compared with the direct-drive 5th gear is noticeable on Nexus 8-speeds with plain-bearing pinions. Needle-bearing and plain-bearing pinions...

    Mechanical doping ???

No she didn't cheat the bike was in the van but unused. Sports journalists are doing what they do best, sensationalism. I have the feeling there are very few real journalists left. None with ethics that is for sure.

Alfine 8 experts -please help !

4th gear is the weak gear in those hubs (Alfine and Nexus8). Are these the simple version or the upgraded version with needle bearings? Seeing the age I am guessing the first version. This is important to me as I am considering the Nexus 8 for my current build and Taylor wheels only have the...

    Mechanical doping ???

10 x 3500 mAh + BMS in each bottle wired in parallel for 36 V 7 Ah? Room enough for a bottle battery controller in one of the bottles too I think. Stealth and ease of access.

Hobby king multi star on offer

My order with the battery charger took 4 days to go from the HK EU warehouse to Utrech so it is still in the Netherlands :( Yesterday I modified the computer ATX power supply. I am not doing a fancy modification with banana plugs and the whole works, just trimmed, shrink wrapped and got...

Cadence rate against motor rpm ???

Well I wouldn't say binge booze... But I only meet two out of four of those criteria  The silliest thing I ever did was take the stairs to race the lift out of the Gouffre de Padirac 75 metres. That got me in the red... But I have a strong enough heart to have survived other...

    Upgrading batribike motor

Will the controller handle 48 V? d8veh always suggests going from 36 to 48 V for a bit of extra oompf as required by the OP the Bafang motors can usually handle it. Especially noticing that it is a CE Chinese Export motor and not a C E European Community sticker on it.

Cadence rate against motor rpm ???

Way back when in my road bike days I was on the Dark Side and pulling obscene ratios at very low cadence. Now I have learnt the error of my ways and am between 80 and 90 dropping down to the high 60's on steep climbs. The secret? Always be in the right gear.

New to electric bikes, not new to cycling. Considering folding electric bike (Kudos Secret?)

The cadence sensor is just the disk with magnets and a detector. The more magnets the better (more information sent) there is a physical limit to the number you can fit in a disk before magnetic interference stops it from working. The controller is where the PAS information is processed and as...

Kudos Rapide gets 108 miles out of a 10.4 Ah battery.

I have started my "limit max output" controller setting experiment and have set max Amps to 11 A. To my surprised this changed the motor's behaviour more than I expected. The cut off became quite brutal at 25 km/h in assistance level 5. The test was done on the flat I will have to test on the...

    chocolates

I have. The chocolate maker who is 50 metres down the street does all kinds from Kenya to Peru. The difference in bean taste is quite extraordinary.

If you are sagging from two bars to one I think that you are at the end of useful battery power, when I get to that point I recharge. 110 km so less than 4.5 W/km isn't too bad.

    Kalkhoff paintwork

They may be using ecological water based enamel paint? If you have the tiniest issue applying it it will stay soft. I had similar issues on my boat where the interior paint was soft for months. The bi-composant solvant based exterior was as hard as a rock within a week.

    Number Two

This is the thread for the conception/construction of my second pedelec build "Number Two". Why a second bike when you have one that works? My current bike frame is too small. It is also a 26" wheel which doesn't fit my use - on roads only and my riding style. The bike hosting a GSM mid drive...
