    Brexit, for once some facts.

Realism Brendan, do you really think our politicians and national performance over the last half a century earn a more optimistic view? It would be the civil servants directed by Cameron and co, assisted by appointees who are cronies of Cameron and co. So I'm afraid it can and will be them in...

News - DfT: Pedal cycles converted to ‘twist and go’ exempt from type approval

I don't understand, why would it be re-plated? It should already be plated as an EAPC and adding a throttle makes no difference to the details on the plate. The law says that manufactured pedelecs without full throttles are EAPCs, the DfT have said that conversions are also considered to be...

News - DfT: Pedal cycles converted to ‘twist and go’ exempt from type approval

I'm sure there are far more than 5000 already out there Dave. There's all the grandfather rights bikes that originated with throttles bought between November 2003 and April 2015. Just two Ezee models that I've owned/have owned sold together some 1500 in a single 12 month period that I knew...

News - DfT: Pedal cycles converted to ‘twist and go’ exempt from type approval

In practice a challenge is probably not necessary. In this discussion I've only been concerned with the technicality of the law. From the moment that the DfT have said that throttles can be permitted on EAPCs subject to certain conditions, police interest will end. I cannot conceive they'd be...

News - DfT: Pedal cycles converted to ‘twist and go’ exempt from type approval

My thinking for this opinion is that a manufactured EAPC is potentially liable to type approval and is only on the road without it due to meeting the exemption conditions in the type approval law. Because it was already an EAPC at source, fitting a throttle at any time breaches the exemption...

News - DfT: Pedal cycles converted to ‘twist and go’ exempt from type approval

I'm convinced that is not the case. Our pedelecs are considered to be subject to bicycle law on the road as if they were bicycles, but in UK law they are EAPCs (Electric Assist Pedal Cycles). The provision that the DfT has made for after market throttles applies only to bicycles converted to...

News - DfT: Pedal cycles converted to ‘twist and go’ exempt from type approval

Yes, it's a pity that Northern Ireland is still bound by the EU type approval exemption and doesn't benefit from these GB changes. Our Crown Protectorates such as The Isle of Man and the Channel Islands also have to make their own provisions for e-bikes since neither the GB or EU regulations...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I agree we'd have that abilty, but not one of any value, given how poor the choice is. I much prefer the social policies and far less warlike stance of the EU administration and prefer to vote for that in this referendum. Therefore if successful, I will have voted democratically for the EU...

Freed? Surely it's just a swap from one useless lot to another of the same? .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

As we already have all the EU laws in place, that choice if we leave would minimise the negotiation problems. Since that would be the easiest for our government to negotiate and also best suits the EU, it's what we'd get, to the disgust of the Brexiters. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Don't do that. Until recently I had a 2000 watt one, but had to run it most of the time with its power turned down over a third to stop it lifting up carpets, carpet tiles, edgings etc. It was just far too powerful. Eventually it committed suicide with a spectacular bang and flash! .

DfT: Pedal cycles converted to ‘twist and go’ exempt from type approval

Yes indeed, at last the situation cleared up for self builders. I doubt anyone will ever get challenged on the throttle issue though, we never did on the 250 watts when the limit was 200 watts. .

DfT: Pedal cycles converted to ‘twist and go’ exempt from type approval

Actually it doesn't have to be ridden first, this legal loophole equally applies to a conversion from all new components, so long as it is a genuine conversion with bike and motor kit purchased separately, bike first, and not a dodge used by a manufacturer or supplier. Obviously anyone...

Clacking noise - Kalkhoff Impulse 2 motor

I've always thought Daum (aka Impulse) copied the Panasonic pedelec unit design and your photos bear that out, the pawl assembly and needle roller use looking like a close copy. I've just posted the photos of the Panasonic freewheel assembling sequence for you on this link. .

I'm afraid I have no further suggestions for getting these Kalkhoff spares than my previous ones, Janusz. The Panasonic ones are probably different and aren't available anyway. Here's the five photos for you in sequence:

All Remain need to do is to repeat what I posted on this link. Not scaremongering, just the true risk of leaving based on undeniable historical fact, plus the implications of successfully selling to the rest of the world. .
