Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

No. There is no obligation whatsoever for a dealer to state whether an accessory or vehicle is illegal if used. In UK law the onus is entirely upon the user, not the supplier, which is why powered pavement scooters, mini-motos, non type-approved bicycle petrol motors etc have always been on...

Hi, D8v. My battery shows 43 volts!

Pending d8veh coming back in, I noticed you post this on your other thread. I don't think you have anything to worry about, it probably just means the low cost meter you bought is reading about 1 volt high, not unusual. .

Spare part Dealer for Giant LaFree eBike 2005

Yes, that is the old SLA batteried one from the period I mentioned. They were made in three versions, yours is the Sport model. Giant will be the only hope for a spare part and I don't know what pedelec sensor and magnet were used on those since I've never been "hands-on" with one. If they...

Spare part Dealer for Giant LaFree eBike 2005

I can only think you mean a very old Giant LaFree from the 1999 to 2001 period, since the Panasonic powered LaFree from then on doesn't have an external pedal sensor. If one of those very old e-bikes, they were not popular so I doubt any dealer ever stocked spares for them. You could contact...

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

Fully agree Dave, the legal assist-speed restriction says it all, not exceeding average cycling speeds. Clearly the real point of assistance is to make cycling easier and more pleasant, not to raise speeds. .

Motor spinning - wheel not turning - ezee torq

The OP said he removed the hub cover and saw the motor spin backwards. With that cover removed the only moving part that can be seen is the rotor, spinning backwards as I said. As you know, the clutch etc are on the blind side within the hub shell. .

Motor spinning - wheel not turning - ezee torq

I'd assumed yours was a modern Torq which hopefully had matching colours so didn't suggest these colour combinations. In fact as far back as 2006 they were the norm on Torqs and ever since have had them published on my Torq website on this link.

Motor spinning - wheel not turning - ezee torq

The motor should spin in the "wrong" direction, it's actually the right direction since the epicylic reverses the drive into the hub. Therefore this seems like the clutch is slipping, rather than any electrical fault. .

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

But that is how outsiders will perceive a modification. They are not going to accept someone modifies their powered bike to achieve the same legal performance. Why would they since there would be no point? Event organisers like the general public will understand modification as being tuning...

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

We understand that, but the problem is with how the organisers of off-road events perceive them. To many of them a dongle is some form of tuning, and some may be aware of the illegallity issue and react accordingly due to their insurance and health and safety obligations. .

    You got a moped!

It's a true moped, as they were in the beginning. Hence Mo-ped, meaning motor and pedals. The fully motorised things that are called mopeds these days thanks to DfT silliness are nothing of the sort, they are Motorised Scooters, normally abbreviated to just Scooter. But as others have said...

Hero Eco - A to B lay off all staff in UK France and Germany?

Hopefully they'll get it right this time. Since the A2B deal, their lack of support, lack of contact details or a usable website has let numerous owners down. They'll either need to work hard to gain trust or hide under the Avocet name. .

    Yamaha Easy battery charger wanted.

Unfortunately that four blade connector doesn't look like anything standard, a problem we've had with Japanese e-bikes from time to time, so I have no plug on solution for that. You could either rig individual plug-on connectors or more easily arrange a jumper lead to a form of standard...

Is Kalkhoff losing brand quality in pursuit of development?

It was probably me, since I posted approximately that, but it was not my thought. I was quoting the boss of Thompsons Electric Bikes, Thompson senior, who said similar back in 2003. .
