Seriously, if in a hilly area this can be a good option for appreciably increasing average speeds on e-bikes, and it's what I do.

My uphill speeds are improved with electric assistance of course, while I let my bikes have their head on downhills to whatever speed they reach within reason.

Overall that means a large gain since the loss of standard assist speed limit of 15 mph going uphill isn't serious, usually much less than 9 mph , while the downhill gain can be very much greater, 15 to 25 mph typically. On journeys starting and finishing at roughly the same altitude, average speeds are markedly improved.

It's any sound e-bike with a fairly powerful legal motor ridden with courage downhill. Brakes are for wimps!

Ettore Bugatti who ran the car company of that name in your country once replied to a racing driver who complained the Bugatti's brakes weren't good enough:

"My race cars are built to go, not to stop!"

So forget the brakes, courage mon brave, just enjoy yourself.

As stated not sure if it would be advisable to power a Brompton/small wheeled bike up 30mph.

A 500w motor in the bike Scotty posted a picture of would be interesting. You probably would not even have to lace a rim to it just wrap that rubber tyre round the hub.

What about the Birdy?

It's double suspension. Quite light and fast. A bionix has been installed there. So the rear dropout is probably 135 mm.

Just seen a second hand birdy on ebay, so it maybe worth it?

I just found that on a forum about the Mezzo:
" I hope to get the range from 30 GI or lower to 96 GI with plenty of options in between. To do this I will have to change my chainring to 56t from the current 44t and add a 11 - 34 cassette. The locknut width dimension on the drop-outs is 135mm so the fit should be fine."

Thanks d8veh. I agree it's a nice bike. But only if I had a car.

For commuting, parking on the street, use on the public transport and go to supermarket, it's much better to have a quick fold bike.

The bike doesn't roll and I have completely to unmount the bike in order to fold it correctly. I think the Jetstream or Mezzo fit better to this requirement.

I'm actually thinking of maybe adding a kickstand with roller to the Dahon jetstream in order to make it roll once folded lol.

ps: Why do you think the Dahon Jetstream wouldn't be secure at faster speed?
