Jerry, if you wanted your brompton to be fast. Something like 30 mph. What would you do?
Find a steep hill to ride down :p

Seriously I commute daily across Cambridge city, 15-20mph is fast enough for me.

Seriously, if in a hilly area this can be a good option for appreciably increasing average speeds on e-bikes, and it's what I do.

My uphill speeds are improved with electric assistance of course, while I let my bikes have their head on downhills to whatever speed they reach within reason.

Overall that means a large gain since the loss of standard assist speed limit of 15 mph going uphill isn't serious, usually much less than 9 mph , while the downhill gain can be very much greater, 15 to 25 mph typically. On journeys starting and finishing at roughly the same altitude, average speeds are markedly improved.

Flec, I love it. It's exactly me. Where can I get this bike? :D

JerrySimon, you didn't answer me lol.

CatSnapper, I'm going to order the Bafang 500W36V. It's going to be a 20" folder (not completely decided on which one yet). If I just order the motor. How does that work? Shall I directly send the motor to you? Do you have a website by the way?

It's any sound e-bike with a fairly powerful legal motor ridden with courage downhill. Brakes are for wimps!

Ettore Bugatti who ran the car company of that name in your country once replied to a racing driver who complained the Bugatti's brakes weren't good enough:

"My race cars are built to go, not to stop!"

So forget the brakes, courage mon brave, just enjoy yourself. :)

P.S. This e-bike from Matra in your country does 30 mph on the flat:

JerrySimon, you didn't answer me lol.
Yes I did :p

As stated not sure if it would be advisable to power a Brompton/small wheeled bike up 30mph.

A 500w motor in the bike Scotty posted a picture of would be interesting. You probably would not even have to lace a rim to it just wrap that rubber tyre round the hub.

Anyway good luck with finding your donor bike.

What about the Birdy?

It's double suspension. Quite light and fast. A bionix has been installed there. So the rear dropout is probably 135 mm.

Just seen a second hand birdy on ebay, so it maybe worth it?

Cwah, that Birdy is very close to where I work. If you want to bid for it, I can collect it, box it up and send it on to you. You'll have to pay the postage of course.

Thanks for your proposition d8veh. I'll definitely ask you I have shipping problem with the seller.

And very nicely spotted JerrySimon, this is maybe MY BIKE:

Wanna put a shopping cart on top of that.

I sent an email to both seller to know about the rear dropout width. The pacific REACH IF is indeed a very beautiful bike. Hope it's wide enough.

Have we narrowed it down to two donor bikes ?

Or maybe three if you include the Dahon Jetstream ?

We are going to crack this and save cwah from himself :D

Ps and there is a bid on the IF, is that you cwah ?

No, it's not me. I have a challenger lol.

There is also the dahon speed pro on ebay:

10.4kg. Chromoly steel. Perfect for bending the frame and add my motor :)

I just found that on a forum about the Mezzo:
" I hope to get the range from 30 GI or lower to 96 GI with plenty of options in between. To do this I will have to change my chainring to 56t from the current 44t and add a 11 - 34 cassette. The locknut width dimension on the drop-outs is 135mm so the fit should be fine."
Mezzo dual drive conversion help

Does that mean the rear dropout is 135 mm and I can fit my 135mm Bafang? :)

Thanks d8veh. I agree it's a nice bike. But only if I had a car.

For commuting, parking on the street, use on the public transport and go to supermarket, it's much better to have a quick fold bike.

The bike doesn't roll and I have completely to unmount the bike in order to fold it correctly. I think the Jetstream or Mezzo fit better to this requirement.

I'm actually thinking of maybe adding a kickstand with roller to the Dahon jetstream in order to make it roll once folded lol.

ps: Why do you think the Dahon Jetstream wouldn't be secure at faster speed?
