1. vfr400 -that's really helpful, thank you! D C -that's brilliant!
2. I need to service the freehub on my ncm Moscow, the cassette isn't spinning freely. It spun the cranks and triggered the motor when I wasn't expecting. Bike slipped out of my hands and now I've got a bent derailleur hanger! Any, came to take it off, but the lock ring appears to be deep inside the cassette. Any advice for taking this off or is it a case of finding a tool that can fit inside? I had thought about taking the side of the motor off but I'm not sure if this is a sensible idea.
3. How would you implement that? Cycling tests for everyone? It would be a barrier to cycling. Much more sensible would be restrict all e-bikes when manufactured and then have some kind of higher bar that those who wanted the superior performance of an unrestricted machine could meet. Why should I be penalised because you want assistance above 15mph?
4. @Zakinak Please can you confirm this is your bike: https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/7/12/15958836/super-73-scout-price-ride-range-photos And that this is the display: https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/j8GQKk8UAcUE8tU0Feo2WWsl0wU=/0x0:2040x1360/1320x0/filters:focal(0x0:2040x1360):format(webp):no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/8840473/sokane_1842_super_73_scout_9229.jpg
5. I was going to ask what the solar panel was on the down tube. But then I realised it is a garden light
6. When I was asking about a pannier rack I had a response by email from them which said: "We currently have no parts we are in process of moving or factory which has resulted in a delay in parts and bikes being dispatched. " It was from Theresa Cunliffe Sales Support Lead T: 01942 932 115 F: 01942 244 556 E: theresa.cunliffe@leoncycle.com That was back in July. You could also try Leon Cycles Germany (support@leoncycle.de) and Australia (support.au@leoncycle.com). I ended up buying a pannier rack from Leon Cycles Australia as Germany was also out of stock!
7. That said, it'd be awesome to ride it all the way!
8. "About 98% of the route is on existing off-road cycle routes, forest roads and low traffic minor roads." Odd definition of new. Guess we should be grateful for the 2% and relabelling of the rest!
9. I've found the following thread on the German pedelec forum. Looks like they successfully derestricted the NCM Moscow +, but it needs some soldering, programming, and a micro-controller: https://www.pedelecforum.de/forum/index.php?threads/kommunikation-zwischen-c7-display-und-motorkontroller-ncm-venice-das-kit.57050/
10. Ah I see where you're coming from now. It is a lump and I wouldn't like to regularly lift it.
11. 29kgs with battery. 24kgs without apparently https://ncmbikes.de/produkt/ncm-moscow-plus-275 Am I right in thinking the KTM is easily twice the price?
12. I bought a set of these for mine: https://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/sks-germany-bluemels-set-28-mountain-range-b65-black-54049 Needs P-clips to fit onto the front forks as no eyelets. https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/281785671205?ul_noapp=true I bought 38mm. They're tight enough but could have got a size smaller I think. Also there was no through-hole in the arch of the front forks, so needed short bolt and applied some thread lock (possibly controversial, but I don't want it moving anywhere!). Fitting was straightforward. The main issue was I needed to make a cut in the read mudguard as it interferes with the front derailleur when changing into the smallest cog. I found I didn't need to make a cut out, only a slit below the derailleur cage where it hit the mudguard, about 1 cm long. The mudguard the flexes sufficiently to allow change down.
13. To be honest, I'm really happy with the Moscow as is. I used to ride an Oxygen S-Cross de-restricted. I've found I take the same amount of time on my 13 mile each way commute due to the increased grunt on the hills. I'm tempted not to mess with mine as it will increase battery consumption (I get home after the round trip with the display reading 46V down from 53V so should should still be plenty spare) and I don't have to charge it at work anymore. I charged the Oxygen after each way previously.
14. Interesting, the website, from Google translate, says " With this display, you can even make your NCM and Leisger E-Bike to tune. Depending on the e-bike model up to 35 km / h are possible. When using this article , your vehicle is no longer considered a pedelec in Germany and therefore may not be used in the area of the StVZO" https://www.leoncycle.de/C6BBT-15-Tuning-Display-Daumengashebel-rechter-Bremshebel-fuer-NCM-und-Leisger-E-Bikes It's out of stock anyway, but if true wonder what is special about the tuning display and would any other than the standard big stone display that comes with the bike work? Tempted to stick the big stone c600e from my 36v Oxygen on and see what happens, but I'm unsure if it would cause something to go pop.
15. cyclebuddy -just tried it, holding set has no effect, so looks like firmware has been changed.
16. The display is a bigstone C600. http://bigstone-nj.com/node/9
17. Leon cycles sell a "tuning display" to remove the restriction: https://www.leoncycle.de/C6BBT-15-Tuning-Display-Daumengashebel-fuer-zB-NCM-und-Leisger-E-Bikes I've also got an NCM Moscow and had seen videos on youtube removing the restriction, but think they either have an older model of the Moscow or have the tuning display. On my bike you can access the secret menu by: 8. pressing and holding + & - until prompted to enter the secret code. 0. Entering the secret code. 1. Press Set 8. Then changing the available settings. On my bike that was selecting between mph and kmh and between eco, normal, and power. Speed and wheel size seem to be locked down.
18. I think you've answered your own question -the S-Cross as it feels better to ride! Are the battery capacities equivalent? I want to say that the S-Cross has a larger capacity battery!
19. 170 miles in. Pics still to follow. Meant to mention in previous review, whereas the button on the batter on the S-Cross doesn't turn the battery off, it does on the Moscow, so turning on is a two step process. Turn on battery, turn on the bike. I'm unsure whether it is a good idea to turn the battery off after each use or when charging. I've noticed the Smart Sam tires are occasionally catching on the bike stand when riding. I've bought some SKS mudguards and when I fit these I'll fit some small Schwable big apple tires which should not rub (2" cf 2.25" and knobbles). I tried a dry run of the mudguards but the knobbles of the Smart Sams' catch which is another reason to change tyre.
20. Nealh & vfr400 you're both right about about the cheaper hydraulic brakes. I wanted to upgrade the rear due to this design flaw: https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/oxygen-problem.33437/#post-476492 I'll have to get out and do some more miles on the Moscow, thennI can give a fair comparison on durability. Leon Cycles look like they have a shop in Wigan (not much use to the OP, but useful to just mention). https://leoncycle.co.uk/?SID=d6fab8e83c0750b721413839fb5ca19f
21. Woosh -That's a good looking bike and a nice spec. Can I ask about the rack? The Moscow has eyelets in the seat stays for a rack similar to your Camino. I've been trying to find a rack like that to buy. Is there a name for that style? Do you have any you'd be willing to sell?! (dimensions suiting of course!)
22. Tough questions! Overall I recommend the Oxygen S-Cross MTB over the S-Cross CB. The MTB comes generally with a better spec (hydraulic brakes, better fork, greater range on rear cassette), but iirc smaller wheels (26" cf 700c), no mudguards or pannier rack. It would be difficult/expensive to try to upgrade the CB to hydraulic brakes later (I was estimated a couple of hundred pounds by Oxygen). As you're ride is mostly flat you should be happy with the S-Cross. But the Moscow is cheaper for a similar spec to the S-Cross MTB and with a larger battery (17AHr to 10 or 13 AHr). That makes it difficult for me to recommend the S-Cross MTB.
23. Dont go for the CB, go for the MTB version of the S-Cross with the hydraulic brakes. I regretted it. Or check out the NCM MOSCOW PLUS. The 48v system is well worth it. https://ebay.us/Z51p3Z
24. I recently bought the Moscow Plus, only had a couple of weeks on it, but so far I am very pleased and would recommend it. I used to ride an Oxygen S-Cross CB 36V bike, and you can really tell the difference with the Moscow's 48V system.
