NCM Moscow Plus 29
Just bought one of these from ebay in silver. See below for the spec https://ncmbikes.de/produkt/ncm-moscow-plus-275 or https://leoncycle.co.uk/ncm-moscow-plus-e-bike-mountain-bike-250w-48v-16ah-768-wh-battery-27-5-29-inches.html Previously rode an Oxygen S-Cross CB (commuter version, not the MTB). The two bikes look rather similar, the major difference is that the NCM Moscow is a 48V system compared to the Oxygen's 36V. I can definitely feel the difference on the hills. My commute is ~14 miles each way into Sheffield and the NCM Moscow really pulls up the hills whereas I would feel the Oxygen slow on the steeper inclines. I had derestricted the Oxygen and found the motor gave assistance to ~22mph. My commute would take around 1 hour. I'm riding the NCM Moscow restricted and am finding the time to work is about the same, ~1 hr, so I think i'm making up the time on the hills. Battery life is great, it comes with a 16AHr battery. I had the Oxygen recelled to 17AHr and it would use a little over half coming into work. I'd then charge at work for the journey home. I've not had to do that with the Moscow. Hot off the charger the battery display shows over 52V, and 50V when I arrive at work leaving ample for the journey home. I haven't tried finding the low voltage cutoff but I believe it is around 42V. The one negative I have found is that the motor is rather sluggish to kick back in if you go from a decent to ascent quickly. I find I need to slow down to around 9-10 mph before the assistance kicks back in. Although this is rather minor and I will get used to it. The bike does need a rack and mudguards. There are specific rack mounts on the bike and Leon cycles sell a specific rack: https://www.leoncycle.de/Gepaecktraeger-fuer-NCM-Milano-Moscow-Venice-E-Bike-Montagematerial Unfortunately it is out of stock. If anyone knows anywhere else that sells something similar I'd be grateful, otherwise I'll need to look at using a generic compatible. Which would be OK, but if you've got specific mounts it would be nice to use them. Likewise with the mudguards, the bike comes with 29 2.25 Schwalbe Smart Sams and finding full mudguards for those is proving fun! Photos to follow. Incidentally, if anyone is interested in buying a Oxygen S-Cross CB which intermittently cuts out but with a decent battery let me know or watch out for the post in the classifieds! P.S. Interesting product from Leon Cycles here: https://www.leoncycle.de/C6BBT-15-Tuning-Display-Daumengashebel-fuer-zB-NCM-und-Leisger-E-Bikes The system on the Moscow seems well tightened down and even after pressing button combinations, entering secret codes, there isn't a readily apparent method to change the controller settings. The above accessory could be good business sense from Leon Cycles!

S-Cross CB Error Code Bingo
I've not updated this for a while. Error code 9 still is an issue. I had another new controller around Christmas 2018 too. Had the return of error code 9 a few weeks ago, but this has been down to a damage battery/controller connected (internal apparently). The bike is nearly new, in the sense that the following have been changed due to upgrade or failure: Frame Rear wheel rim/spokes Saddle Cassette/chain/crankset Gear shifters Brake handles Controller Harness Handlebars and grips (originals too long to fit through k barriers easily, grips wore through) Front forks Seatpost (upgraded to NCX) Battery revelled by insat The motor, display, hub motor, front wheel, and rack are original though. The bike is feeling increasingly unrealiable. Is this due to age/use, but then again so much has been replaced it is nearly new! Spotted the NCM Moscow Plus https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F133045846972 Seems v.similar to the SCross mountain bike but main difference bus that it's a 48v system. Time to buy new?

Saggy battery -Oxygen S- Cross CB
So I went with Jimmy. I boxed up the battery, they sent me a shipping label and it was picked up the next day. Jimmy re-celled it to 17.5 Ahr and also identified a problem with the BMS which had been limiting current draw previously, so had a new BMS too. Jimmy also checked my charger to ensure it was functioning correctly (which it was). As the BMS appeared to be faulty, Jimmy checked the original Samsung cells which were still healthy, although down to around 9Ahr from 13AHr. As I use the bike everyday for ~28 mile round trip I had it recelled anyway, rather than risk having to send it off again. Total cost was £400 inc VAT & P&P. Riding the bike today it feels like new and has more poke on the hills, presumably from the BMS now no longer prematurely limiting current draw.the new cells. Either way, very happy!

Saggy battery -Oxygen S- Cross CB
Thanks, spoke to SY Electric Bike. They quoted £440 for a 13aHr new battery. Called insat, Jimmy is away until later this month but will discuss options and approximate cost, then if I'm happy they will collect the battery, recelling, I then pay, and then they return. So, question for now is do I use the dreaded bus or risk the bike with the battery as is! Last night battery was 38v hot off the charger before cycling home, this morning it was back up to 41.5v.

Saggy battery -Oxygen S- Cross CB
I've noticed significant sag from my battery recently. The bike is around 2yrs 4months old and has had a hard life. I'd estimate 7000 miles of commuting in Sheffield (odometer unreliable as had new conteollco last year). Today the display showed the battery voltage as over 41v hot off the charger, this then sank to 34.0v about halfway through my commute. I paused and watch this then rise back to 35.8v. I can mitigate it by using the bike in normal rather than power. But is this a sign it is time to give Jimmy at insatiable a call? Also how does that work because surely he can't quote until he has the case in front of him and can see how many cells will fit?

Oxygen Scross MTB ongoing review
Good point -I've been running these over the winter:http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/schwalbe-winter-spike-road-tyre-k-guard/rp-prod118113 And they have two operational air pressures, one at 50psi the other at 30psi. I wonder if running at 30psi would have contributed significantly. I note the site says 50-95 psi but I swear the tyre wall says 30-50! I'm using Planet-X Valvert (?) inner tubes.

RobF -I'm inclined to agree with @d8veh. You'd have a stronger argument if the wheels had failed in a similar manner but they have not. Also I am taking my wheel to a local shop to be fixed, not the manufacturer. The LBS didn't blink twice about the fact it had a hub motor in it so I don't accept your argument that these wheels are non-standard and difficult to repair. I don't accept that all my problems would evaporate had I bought a crank drive. I suspect I would still suffer wheel issues, electrical problems, chain and sprocket wear and all the other normal issues that come with riding a bicycle. If you have any stronger evidence to support your theory then I'd like to hear it as I am interested in improving the reliability of my bikes -hence when I mentioned finding a rim with eyelets above.

That's my photography skills and that'd I've not cleaned the rim before photographing. I'll get a better image later, but any image of a dent is an illusion. Likewise, looking at the picture there appears to be a fork in the crack leading to the spoke, but that isn't there either. It is just a straight crack and the profile of the rim is otherwise normal.

I promise I've not taken a lump hammer to it! I'm not sure, but it has had some serious stick as I commute 25 miles round daily on it for the last 2 years and the roads here are more hole than anything else. I can't say there was a single "bang", I only noticed it because I'd got a puncture elsewhere on the tire and only spotted the crack as it is next to the valve.

Oxygen S-Cross CB seat tube failure.
Holy thread resurrection Batman! -Long story short, but the generic pogo style suspension seat post Oxygen gave me with the replacement frame has just failed. I'd like (foolishly) to try my NCX again. The NCX needs new bushes and I've ordered a set as per another thread on this forum. I've also noticed that the seat post from Oxygen has an OD of 28.6mm whereas the NCX is 27.2. So the question is, do I need a shim and could this have contributed to the original frame failure?! I'm thinking of one of these (need to double check the dimensions first): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALLOY-SEATPOST-SHIM-REDUCER-27-2mm-28-6mm-BICYCLE-SADDLE-STEM-ALLOY-SLEEVE/183128651088?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D50980%26meid%3D60622268ef1e48939a5af6f630ab2c8f%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D183128651088%26itm%3D183128651088&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A48ce3d13-3735-11e8-9c9b-74dbd1806af7%7Cparentrq%3A8b589bc51620a9c51cec2969ffff6a90%7Ciid%3A1

Redundancy
Management postponed the meeting, so stuck in limbo, but have secured a few more days pay. NIL ILLIGITIMI CARBARUNDUM indeed, but they're giving it a really good go!

Redundancy
Thanks all, its reassuring that it's more common than I thought. Bring on tomorrow -onwards and upwards!

Just realized, my ebike is now in the extended rental period with the cycle scheme and is no longer the company's property. -priorities sorted!

Redundancy
Thanks both. Under no illusions of greener grass, but the CV has been updated and ready to go once I know what the situation is. I'm angry that the firm has spent nearly 5 years training me and at the first sign of an issue (it hasn't been a long decline and the feeling is that redundancy is a knee jerk reaction) I'm likely out on my ear. That said I do think the best outcome is redundancy, which seems counterintuitive, I think that's the bit that has thrown me. Work has made it clear it isn't because of the quality of my work, but it is hard not to wonder if I could have done more to avoid this situation, but it has come out of the blue. Other firms in a similar business in the local area are recruiting and appear to be doing ok, so that's promising at least.

Redundancy
I've got a final decision meeting (part 2) tomorrow on making my job redundancy. Anyone been through redundant. Anyone have any advice? The final redundancy meeting (part 1) was on Wednesday. Management said there were no viable alternatives to making jobs redundant but then adjourned the meeting to further explore the options that had been ruled out, which is odd. I'm of the opinion that I'd be better off redundant because: 1. They've made a real mess of the process and turned a previously happy employee into a disgruntled one. 2. I've a 6 month notice period so I can take my time to find another job. Hopefully, I'll get at least garden leave. 3. If they make me redundant I'll get out of paying back a training contract. So I feel I've a funny line to tread as they can't think I'd just resign if they stopped the process now, following which I'd have to serve the 6months in the office and pay back the training contract. I don't want to stay, but don't want the disadvantages of resignation. I need them to make me redundant!

Oxygen service -so good it deserves a thread of its own.
I had a bad day Tuesday. To top it off when I got home I dropped by S-Cross CB battery charger-end-on onto the concrete floor and cracked the plastic around the fuse and charge point. Battery still worked fine and charged OK and I cycled into work with it the next day, but I was concerned about whether it was still water tight. I called John at Oxygen yesterday. He said he would come out and pick up the battery and swap out the broken plastic for the end of a dead spare battery he had, and would lend me a different battery in the meantime. Turns our there was no need to lend a battery. Today, he came to my place of work (~5 miles from their shop), picked up the battery ~12.20, fixed it, and dropped it off back at my place of work around ~15.30. He charged me £0.00 and also gave me 4 spokes as I'd popped one on the front wheel. My gasted is flabbered.

Today my Helmet has saved me a Headache
Ouch! I fitted a pair of these last night. https://www.spacycles.co.uk/m2b0s142p2831/SCHWALBE-Snow-Stud They paid for themselves this morning. The road outside my house is too small to be gritted. It was like this:

Brexit, for once some facts.
Anyone here know of any pan-European organisations/treaties that the UK is currently a member of and will remain so post Brexit? I can think of three: -The European Patent Convention (ignoring the Unitary Patent Convention mess which TM recently committed the UK to sign up to despite it being subject to decisions of the CJEU which TM as has said the UK will not accept). -The European Space Agency. -Eurovision.

Is an electric bike for me?
Hi CaptainDan I am 30, 18st, 5'11. I started cycling to work (18 mile round trip) around 3 years ago and 17st on a non-ebike (apparently cycling makes you hungry!). After not loosing much weight, a couple of near misses, and a small child later, I came on here and after receiving good advice obtained an Oxygen S-Cross. I'd recommend getting an ebike, you don't sweat as much so can wear regular clothing (though I recommend synthetics which are quick drying), and I think it is safer as you can concentrate more on the other idiots on the road rather than peddling up a nasty hill.

It looks to me like you could back peddle with it, which I quite like over the Bosch system (I believe that's was the case, it certainly was with the Rayleigh Modus I borrowed from a Cycle Boost scheme). As the patent was published more than 20 years ago any rights that may have arisen will have long since expired so anyone can use it now.
