Spoke key
I advise buying a set or at least measuring very accurately. Common mistake is believing all nipples to be sized by wire (spoke) gauge, no longer true, even if it was when bicycles were made in England to English sizes. These nipples are all 14 gauge, one fits red, one fits green the other black ! , only a few thousands of an inch between them but it does matter. My old circular spoke key, “marked in G” for comparison, all three “real” 14 g keys are sized between the 13 and the 15, from tight as a nun’s to waving a pencil in the Albert Hall ! Use the right tool

PAS fixed to gates rear sprocket?
:)Enough, enough, the maiden cried ! Had me giggling, at least Got me thinking, how about a fck off big front hub motor on a fixie with torque sensor on BB, no speed limit nor brake sensors . Someone might like to give one to Bibi at the top of Mt Sinai (to celebrate the successful modern interpretation of just the first of those lovely 10 Commandments). A little push to get him started might be enough.

E-bike seizures surge as police take 'death traps' off the streets
Touche, mon ami Exactly why we have troubled with “corrected” horsepower limits on ice vehicles for so long. Dynos calibrate to sea level, 20*C, atmospheric pressure etc. Your moped or class A2 horsepower restricted motorbike will make it’s maximum power ONLY on a level playing field. Consistent, nominal or other vague terms make much more sense. Getting up my favourite hill at 15.6 mph on my epac needs way more than 250w from my controller but am I putting 250watts (about 1/3 of one brake horsepower) into the back wheel ? Totally irrelevant when one man’s mountain is another man‘s hill. Fortune smiles when I return, The European standard is of course, Mt Blanc, from the lake (Geneva) to the tunnel. All certified 250watt pedelecs MUST be able to maintain 25kmph all the way, for geriatrics we allow starting at Chamonix. A nice average speed UP that road IMHO On the way back there is no speed limit, just fun., Totally fair and just, vive la France and f#ck the Dutch, no downhill for them , 25kmph is their lot. Keyboard warriors should have a go, 250 nominal watt proving, you need SFA watts (or horsepower) to go very fast indeed. Foldies self restrict, of course, as do hubbies, just proving Darwin was correct. All as it should be.

Is an Electric Bike Suitable for Long Mountain Rides?
so perfectly well explained long mountain rides tend to have flat bits on the ridges and in the valleys, some steep climbs , some long gentle ones, some tight single trail, some wide open bits etc etc etc The need for gears becomes obvious, a motor that can do it all is essential Yes a mid motor costs a bit more (for op)

Is an Electric Bike Suitable for Long Mountain Rides?
Yes and trail parks have about as much in common with long distance mountain rides as a velodrome. The op has unsurprisingly left the room.

Is an Electric Bike Suitable for Long Mountain Rides?
Opposite for me, my mid baf has throttle controlled pas, so setting is really low —100w until I push throttle, totally linear increase in pas. Torque sensitive to my thumb, controllable in proper rough, no weird kicks. I’ve been riding a Bosch a lot in recent weeks, I don’t hate it but if you forget to press buttons and lower power after a climb it is viscous. Negotiating pedestrian chicanes at top of hill nearly bit me ! Give me linear controlled pas over button pushing any day re battery range, we’re not all the same, my wife and I started with 720w/hr each (same baf motor). I can go a lot farther than her even though I go faster. All power to Chis R but no way can she climb 1500 m on 720, actually I’m pushing to do that. Our normal lunch run is just over 600m (over 300 twice) in 65km and that about her lot. I have climbed 1500m on that battery but also been on days when I climbed a lot more and used a lot more. Range costs me about 4.5Kg per Kw/hr, I can deal with that, YMMV

Is an Electric Bike Suitable for Long Mountain Rides?
Yes, I love to tour in mountains, multi day especially, I could never do it on analogue bike. Where is the trip .? ie how far and how high climb a day ? Range is controlled only by price and weight of battery (or batteries) Dual suspension to hardtail is chalk and cheese in the rough stuff Very few “shop” ebikes are intended to tour far, if you intend to build or have built for you, the world is your oyster, starting with good condition but old dually is the way to go imho, Bafang mid motors my choice

Bargains
X tech hybrid version posted above should self adjust, only cable needs setting and lubing, looks like a better (although dearer) version of the zoom mech twin pull I have and posted. I’d try it, no question, Good spotting egroover !

Bargains
No experience with hybrid ones but these twin pull mech zittos are seriously good value. I fitted to wife’s ebike. Not self adjusting, of course, but feel is like twin piston hydros. Cheap, look trick (imho, lovely cnc cut), easy free brake cut out switch (with kit levers/perches), I recommend for those on budget that don’t mind adjusting cables . Not for downhill racers, obviously but way better than single piston jobbies. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005134502795.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.pcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller.3.2cadOX0zOX0z99&gps-id=pcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller&scm=1007.40050.354490.0&scm_id=1007.40050.354490.0&scm-url=1007.40050.354490.0&pvid=460babff-ddb0-471e-97ad-c5cf30df5238&_t=gps-id:pcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller,scm-url:1007.40050.354490.0,pvid:460babff-ddb0-471e-97ad-c5cf30df5238,tpp_buckets:668#2846#8112#1997&pdp_npi=4@dis!AUD!67.57!17.37!!!319.95!82.25!@2103868d17252922902406656e8fee!12000031800294351!rec!AU!!ABXZ&utparam-url=scene:pcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller|query_from:

Wheels Manufacturing Bafang Outer M33 E-bike Lockring Tool
Sorry, I’m away from my workshop, mine is probably not deep splined as I had no reason to look for one, but I did see multiple options, Zitto etc Any with 32mm hex drive should be boreable to clear axle. some are sold as Bafang specific, 44/16 fits later mid drives too It might be worth checking Park Tools site, if Park make deep spline one then just look for cheap snide park replica on aliexpress (or buy the Park one ) You’ll be fine with Baf inner M33 done up tight with socket though — rust issue won’t stop it.

Wheels Manufacturing Bafang Outer M33 E-bike Lockring Tool
You probably know but 44/16 is common size for shimano bb, I bought mine from ali express, loads to choose from , cheap as chips. Look for deep reach. The std baf inner m33 44/ 4 prong is harder to find, I bought same brand (wheels maf) and it’s dear but perfect. I have a few mid bafs, one of which is in 73mm bb bike, shimmied out for case clearance to chainstay, no room for locknut so I use 4 prong m33 only. When you do the nut up tight with socket it does not come loose, no need for locknut at all. Lots of rough off road and thousands of miles proven. I hadn’t heard of this lekkie one nut and possibly would have bought one then, . Perhaps still will, not for grub screw alone but I hate heavy steel nut that goes rusty as soon as it sees water. Anodised alloy nut would be nice

Pedelec Nirvana
The future ? Sorry if posted before

Pedelec Nirvana
A very wise decision, not least to get gearing that you can always get you up the last hill when battery is flat but much more importantly to set up suspension. Plush is my game, no tabletops nor big drops here but dually set up right, ignores tree roots, potholes etc, mine only has 4” each end but it’s a magic carpet. Hardtail is hard to take after a well set up dually. My expectations, needs and wants are possibly way different from forum regulars, to me (lack of) unsprung weight is paramount but I come from a motorcycle racing background so I have some experience with suspension. Seriously, grams matter, members here couldn’t understand my 7kg 1800w/hr battery, probably not my comfy leather seat nor dropper seatpost either but these are sprung as is my body weight. I run tubeless, alloy cassette nut, ti qr spindles etc etc, difference is stunning, plush is the word. I look forward to your riding it analogue and then with half a ton of motor in the back wheel, if you can’t tell the difference, ignore me, if you can, think of a better way.

Read And Weep
If a whisper legal throttle ebike (or Grandfather rights ebike ) breaks it’s chain, can it be legally ridden without chain ? Does plod know or care ? Are there more important things in the world ?

Bafang brake sensor bypass
Thanks for that Az, first time I’ve read that, totally unacceptable, of course, torque sensitive must stop immediately, that’s part of the attraction, guess we have to wait till we can play with settings. Took me a while to get Baf pas to not run on, all good now but Bosch I’m riding today is perfect (but for riding through treacle over 15mph). Run on is lethal off road, not nice in traffic

Bafang reliability (my experience - OVERWHLMINGLY POSITIVE!)
+1000’s You can lead a horse to water………… But in light of recent news of jail for ebike motor tampering, it would be remiss of me to encourage such behaviour on the net, no more from me on that subject. Especially when said clown not only “misunderstands” English but also brags that he is psychotic, definitely not one to encourage at all.
