December 5, 201510 yr Hello all, The nuts of my rear wheel motor always get loose. I'm using the leafbike 1000W motor: http://www.leafbike.com/products/e-bike-hub-motor/gearless-20-24-26-700c-28-inch/newest-20-inch-48v-1000w-rear-hub-motor-wheel-888.html What's best to avoid this issue? Shall I get thread lock? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__69125__HK_175_Thread_Locker_Sealant_High_Strength_Green_UK_Warehouse_.html Or shall I get some 14mm nut with Nylon? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/A2-Stainless-Steel-Nyloc-Nylon-Nuts-Type-T-ALL-SIZES-/181741928865?var=&hash=item2a50a9c1a1:m:mikfwAaOAW9kwxZ4uQYvCgA I'm thinking maybe nylon nut would be better as I would be removing the wheel from time to time. With thread lock it may not be as simple

December 5, 201510 yr Clean the mating parts with cellulose thinners or similar and apply non-setting thread locking compound . I have used it on the rear spindle nut on my Scooter instead of the £10 single use only Aprilia Spares nut . A socket undoes it ok , the Torque is 80lbf.ft a lot more than on your Ebike !
December 5, 201510 yr The sprung tension against the nut should stop and loosening from vibration also a star washer should also work. As your nut is coming loose I can only assume that the thread size is not exact and there must be minute play.
December 5, 201510 yr Author Thanks, so shall I get this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/14mm-starlock-star-lock-washer-speed-lock-locking-washer-uncapped-x10-/221356000355?hash=item3389d88463:g:qD8AAOxymspSEpXL And my problem will be sorted?
December 5, 201510 yr Nylocs.....but don't forget to use new ones every time you change....to work properly the nylon insert is one time use. KudosDave

December 5, 201510 yr i don't want to change nuts everytime i get a flat tyre!! Yes you do,if you don't want them coming loose. Anyway, how often do you get a flat? We used to use nylocs on race cars in preference to castellated nuts and split pins, because Nylocs were so much quicker to undo, but you have to use a new one every time, the nylon loses its grip once the thread is cut within it. KudosDave

I know they seem expensive, but put that aside and buy them. Don't bother with the second link. They are junk and nothing like Nord Locks.

December 5, 201510 yr Trust me, Nord Locks are the business. They actually expand as you apply torque to the securing nut in an anti-clockwise direction, making it almost impossible for the nut to come undone on its own.
December 5, 201510 yr See what you have done now Cwah . A simple question and you get a multitude of answers a real can of worms you have opened , all you have to do now is decide which worm to go for.

In your post have a look at the corner of the projecting end and you'll see that it bites against the nut surface if it tries to rotate anticlockwise to undo. .

December 6, 201510 yr cwah You could always make yourself a custom tab washer and lock the nut off to the flat on the shaft or nearby bit of frame.
