December 9, 201510 yr Perusing the net tonight, looking for my Xmas present... ahem, I wish.... and came across this Giant electric bike: http://www.wheelies.co.uk/p84056/Giant-Dirt-E-2-2016-Electric-Bike.aspx It doesn't mention Bosch or Yamaha, so has Giant sneakily manufactured their own system?
December 9, 201510 yr Doesn't look like a Bosch at all...... but it does look suspiciously like a Yam motor. Maybe Yamaha make it and just let Giant brand it under license.
December 9, 201510 yr Giant SyncDrive C, Evolution line, Yamaha X94, 80Nm torque, Giant PedalPlus 4-sensor technology http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/dirt.e.2/25033/90633/#specifications

December 9, 201510 yr The Yamaha motors really do look neater around the BB area than the Bosch do IMO.
December 9, 201510 yr The Yamaha motors really do look neater around the BB area than the Bosch do IMO. I agree, and I prefer the larger chainwheel to the new Bosch tiddler. Knowing how reliable Yamaha's early crank motors were, this new one could become one of the greats of e-biking .

December 10, 201510 yr I saw the Giant in flesh and er aluminium on Monday when I went to the LBS for brake pads. Very nice looking bike.
December 10, 201510 yr I was surprised to also see this bike (and many others) on the Tredz website. I also think it looks smart. Battery / motor configuration is very much like the new Kalkhoff Integrale. http://www.50cycles.com/electric-bikes/sports-e-bikes/integrale-ltd_11g.html
December 10, 201510 yr I quite like this one that another member linked to a while back. http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/road.e.1/24987/90635/ I'm not 100% sure about the marriage of road bike and electric bike due to weight issues. The two don't seem compatible somehow, but I do like the look of it. Maybe a hybrid type bike of similar style would be better. I've always likes Giant bikes. I think they are well made and well specified for the price. That Yamaha motor shows promise too and it would be good to see it take more of the European market away from Bosch and the Impulse drives. Tiny front sprockets, belts and auto power cutting when shifting gear to prevent chewed up gears. It all sounds like too much of a compromise. The Japs know a thing or two about bike propulsion systems, so I hope this Yamaha motor does well.
December 11, 201510 yr Author Good to see manufacturers are starting to introduce fast chargers as standard too. 4 amps on that Giant road bike, instead of the usual 2 amp charger.
December 11, 201510 yr Do they go to the pub and get pissed before coming up with their bike colours. http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/full.e.1.arriving.spring.2016/25034/92031/ Inspire me to buy one, no thanks. I'm sure that the prices have also dropped on both by about £600.00 when compared with just over a year ago. With the colours offered for the 2016 range, they will have to be giving them away to shift any.
December 11, 201510 yr I really hope they don't sell many, so that there'll be plenty left this time next year http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/road.e.1/24987/90635/
December 11, 201510 yr You weren't allowed/supposed to see that. My name is already on the end of year sales list for that. I really loved the Defy 3 that I borrowed some time back. The sportive geometry made it a very nice ride. If the e-bike is as good as that, it would be one hell of a bike. Edited December 11, 201510 yr by EddiePJ

December 11, 201510 yr I won't be breaking it. It's not a Haibike. I thought that I had some photos uploaded of it, but can't find them. Goes off to look again.
December 11, 201510 yr ed you broke ur motor and batt on ur ktm fs and dont even use a dongle u just a ebike killer lol. and still got all me frame bolts same motor and batt
December 11, 201510 yr The motor and battery are the same on both bikes, so hardly an issue unique to KTM. The battery had a software recognition fault, and was replaced within the space of a week, as was the motor. I'm not the only person/forum member to have suffered bearing failure, and a quick Google search will reveal the same of the battery. I'm only teasing with the following SW. You also have to remember that I actually use my bike off road. In fact, my total mixed off road, and road mileage for this year will by close to 3,000 miles come the end of December. I'm guessing at 80% off road, and 20% percent on road. Not a bad figure for mainly weekend and evening playing. Not sure what you mean about the frame bolts. I've only ever read about Haibikes loosing rear suspension linkage bolts. Indeed, the only thing holding your own bolts in are cable ties. But as said before, that is just down to a poor maintenance regime by some owners. (not counting you in that, as you still have your bolts) The rear hub etc, didn't exactly last long on the Haibike either. I suspect that given my annual mileage, my bike has actually been far more reliable, and also required less/ no upgrades. Ref the e-Race, the only photo that I can currently find, is this one. http://s20.postimg.org/ya4hro1kd/DSCF2597.jpg Edited December 11, 201510 yr by EddiePJ
