cross-party committee's head of exiting the EU, Hilary Benn.

Perhaps he can employ an Air strike to convince the EU to give us what we want?

To be honest I doubt if it will make the slightest difference no matter who we send, unless they are going to ask politely

"Can we have article 50 Notification back please?"

Sorry for any inconvenience etc.,

Edited by oldgroaner

I don't think recalling A50 is going to achieve majority support in parliament or in the electorate. It seems obvious now that a hard brexit is costly in the next 10-15 years. The question is, can the UK afford the cost of hard brexit? I guess the answer is no because of our already very high national debt and poor state of public services, then a soft brexit is the only solution that would have majority support. As the conservatives can't do this alone, it has to be headed by the cross-party committee.

An article in the telegraph quoted 'Mr Fox has targeted a near-doubling of exports to £1trn a year by 2020'.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/connect/small-business/international-trade/is-the-uk-a-fat-and-lazy-trading-nation/

The only thing we have over the EU is their trade surplus, they sell to us sub-assemblies that we integrate into our products and sell on to countries outside the EU. After brexit, it is doubtful that companies are going to retain the same supply chains for long if we impose import duty on EU imports. The result is we should expect a reduction in EU imports and corresponding reduction in selling on EU goods.

No-one.

The only sensible thing now is the one that needs courage, to back out of leaving the EU and admit the UK governments have made serious mistakes in this matter. Less than a 4% margin of the voters and far less of the electorate was never a public mandate for such a serious move as leaving the EU and certainly not in any way permission for a hard Brexit, and that should be admitted and acted upon.

Following that we should change to a proportional representation voting system and resolve to govern by government in future. Only in that way can we safeguard ourselves against the loony extremes of politics right and left while nullifying the ill effects of a largely ignorant electorate.

Eloquently put, I completely agree

I have absolute faith that we will take the sensible action flecc suggested.

Even if nobody else has[emoji1]

.. I doubt that anyone can currently square that circle. DUP and SF actually want something similar on Brexit.. no border controls on the island of Ireland. , Scots cons want a very soft brexit, Labour want a Brexit in name only , it is the hardliners within the southern cons who want the hard Brexit. Unless she can deliver a hard Brexit, there will be a resurgence of the ukip, so she is in a hard place.

Too much has happened since the referendum and UKIP has shown within that they are a finished party,no chance of the return of UKIP. Theresa May has moved so far right to satisfy the Tory fascists that UKIP no longer has a place.

But May is so far right she forgot about the middle ground, the core Tory vote and also underestimated Corbyn. She has shown herself to be a robot who cannot adapt to changes in the political climate, just the person you don't want in negotiations with the EU.

As Osborne said she is 'a dead woman walking'.....she hasn't a clue how to get the UK out of this mess.

Corbyn would rape my business but I think I would prefer that to this current mess that will get worse when we start the Brexit negotiations.

The trouble is who would replace her....Boris,Leadsom,Gove,Davis,Rudd...I don't like the thought of any of those.

Maybe a cross party committee to negotiate Brexit would be a good idea but the Tory 'bastards' would spit blood at the risk of a soft Brexit.

KudosDave

Start as you mean to go on, as the saying goes.

From the Express

"

Theresa May 'fails to submit opening Brexit negotiation papers' DAYS before vital talks

BREXIT negotiations could start embarrassingly for Britain after it emerged Theresa May’s Government has failed to outlined their opening negotiation position to the EU ahead of Monday’s talks, according to reports."

I have to ask: have they actually got one?

A valid question and one which I want to know the answer to.

I am thinking that they have no plan, that they are incapable of forming a plan and if they had a plan, too disorganised to follow it.

I am thinking that they have no plan, that they are incapable of forming a plan and if they had a plan, too disorganised to follow it.

The only plan I've ever discerned them having is:

1) A hope that an agreement will work out ok in the end.

2) That if it doesn't we'll hard exit and hope that will work out ok.

3) If neither work out, we'll happily suffer in true British fashion while boasting about how stiff our upper lips are.

Stiff upper lip for the ruling class and binge drinking for the masses?

Nicholas Parsons.

I would have recommended Spike Milligan, unfortunately he's dead, but as Mrs May proves on a daily basis that may not be a handicap.

I have come to the conclusion that you are correct about 1& 2. I would add to (3) that they will blame and vilify the EU in order to deflect scrutiny of their own inadequacy.

.. yes I agree, you have said more succinctly the essentials of my last few posts with OG. Events have their own momentum

It appears that May and Hammond are planning a soft Brexit. Hammond has always favoured a soft Brexit to keep the city of London EU business and May now has no choice if she has to keep the DUP and Scottish Tories on her side, who both favour keeping in the customs union.

As I previously predicted the Tory 'bastards' (Redwood,Rees-Mug,Bone and IDS) have threatened May that if she pursues a soft Brexit then they will try to kick her out by a leadership challenge. It was this bunch of right wingers plus UKIP that caused Cameron to commit to the referendum.

I am sure that May has pointed out to these fascists that she now has no power to negotiate a hard Brexit, maybe one of them will try for PM,but they are not popular amongst the majority of the Tory party.

Here's a question for you

What do you call a beggar in the street armed with Dum Dum bullets, explosive ones too, that have been banned for more than a generation by every nation on Earth as a crime against Humanity?

Answer

The S.A.S.

Fom the Daily Star

SAS to be issued with 'exploding' bullets to stop terrorists

THE SAS will be issued with “exploding” bullets to stop terrorists in their tracks.

"

The bullet, described as the most lethal ever made, is made by US company G2 Research.

It is designed to splinter into eight pieces, each causing as much damage as a single ordinary round.

The manufacturers’ website states: “It is capable of going through barriers such as sheet rock, plywood, sheet metal or glass and still performs its original intent. The bullet shreds through solid objects and, only then, expends its energy.”

This is way beyond the point where we can consider ourselves a Civilised Nation

Grenfell Tower cladding is banned in the UK, Chancellor reveals

The flammable cladding used at Grenfell Tower is not banned merely in the US and Europe, but in the UK too

The construction company insist that they met the current standards. Also we still aren't certain whether it was the cladding or the substrate that ignited, so I suspect it will be some while before we know the true position.

I don't know if these bullets have an explosive charge in them or whether they intentionally break up on impact. As you say, they have been banned in warfare for many years, but I'm not sure about civil defence / law enforcement agencies.

I know the police use bullets which are designed to break up or expand inside the body, just like the ones to which you refer. The intention being that it reduced the chances of it exiting and wounding / killing someone other than the intended target.

The bullets which you describe are intended for just such circumstances. The terrorist attacks of today tend to involve the perpetrator being in close proximity to large numbers of members of the public. A bullet or a number of stray bullets exiting a terrorists body would put the public at even greater risk. Also, if the target is wearing explosives / mock explosives, it is vital that each shot inflicts the maximum amount of trauma on the body.

Not ideal, but a crowd type attack is the choice made by today's terrorists and tactics must adapt accordingly

Good work by the Daily Star blowing the cover of the people who are supposed to be keeping us safe. Stand by for tramp genocide. Still, it's better than some of their other headlines, such as a double decker bus found on the moon.
