A random thread for things too unimportant for their own thread...

His books are worth reading too...and he holds a few world records, he,ll never win SPOY or a TT but a talented bloke none the less...

I believe he,s done a 132 mph lap around Island so he,s no slouch...

Some of his world records are done using a specialist team and modern technology which the previous holders hadn't necessarily had, a good example being the tandem 24 hour record which he did on a special machine when tho last holders did it on an actual Tandem as we know it, but I watch all f his TV programs because I like him and find him entertaining.

Did anyone see the China bike ride he did? 341 miles through the desert in 27 hours! And if memory serves I think he did it on a fixi.

Yes that's certainly very odd. The votes are probably mistakenly on performance rather than personality.

Asking the public anything is usually a mistake!

.

Do you think the public voted for him? I don't!

I think Lewis Hamilton is great. I don't like his tattoos but he is very human.

I think Valentino Rossi is the greatest sports personality of all time and I am not Italian. F1 drivers think Valentino is one of the greatest petrol heads on earth and many have said into a microphone they are not capable of doing what he does. Mick Doohan took Valentino under his wing, Agostini admires him (think about that) and even Spanish GP racers think he is great. Now there is a reference...

I stopped watching car racing when I saw Valentino the first time. It was magic, then he won 250 cc, then he won 500 cc, then he won MotoGP... He even menaced getting in a car but he said it was a little slow for him.

What the phuck does personality have to do with sport?

In MotoGP it involves doing a victory lap on the rear wheel dressed in a chicken costume :D That's personality! :p

There's a clue in the title. Sports personality of the year....

It adds to the entertainment.

Lets face it, if sport didn't entertain there wouldn't be any prize money, so the more entertainment, the more money comes in.

I think they did, but of course the selection to choose from is rigged.

The organisers pick the twelve most likely and the public can only vote for one of them. And they are obviously voting on performance rather than personality, since even Steve Davis won it once!

.

Wonder if Chris Froome will now be in running, he,d get all the asthma sufferers votes.??

He was forecast to be runner up to Anthony Joshua, but I think the asthma drug story will have blown that.

That leaves Lewis Hamilton as the runner up to Joshua, so Hamilton could become one of the few double winners.

I,ll bet AJ doesn't get Amir Khan's vote, might get Mrs Khan,s...

Sport is better without prize money. Anyway, I quite like unemotional, focused, inscrutable sportsmen. Bjorn Borg and Steve Davies. You can just marvel at the determination and prowess.

Sport is better without prize money.

Agreed, but spectator sport is tied to money and dominated by it now. I can't see that ever changing.

Hate to be the bringer of such bad news to you all but I,n afraid we will all be unable to watch this years FA cup final as it clashes with the not to be missed at any cost Royal Wedding. Please don't shoot the messenger.

Me too! Being forced to watch the cup final would be bad enough but the royal wedding with be repeated over and over and over.

Note to self.. but a few spare batteries for a long long ride.

No, I'm with the rest, can happily do without the Cup Final and the royal family. The latter I'd flog off to the Americans, they've already bought London Bridge so we can ship them Buckingham Palace as well.

I was once told that I needed to get a life! And all because I didn't want to join a bunch of roundy drunks shouting at a tv screen.

No, just watch Strictly, Cup Final and Royal Wedding on catch up..You,ll be fine...

The fuss is Strictly unnecessary, the wedding (29th) and cup final (19th) are ten days apart.
