That's not a confession - it's something to be proud of! I had to endure football matches as part of my long-forgotten occupation however I never went to one in my private life, even though, many years ago when Dunfermline won the Scottish cup, I lived within a stone's throw of the stadium.

Ah yes, but I also watch strictly!

The fuss is Strictly unnecessary, the wedding (29th) and cup final (19th) are ten days apart.

I went to one once! I was invited by a big telecoms outfit and did the whole VIP seat - 3 course meal after - meet the players thing.

 

I have been to so many international rugby games I've lost count however.

Both games are fantastic when played properly but there is something that I find a touch annoying about many devoted rugby fans...some ( most?) have never ever played. The numbers just dont add up with Rugby support.

Go out on any winter Saturday morning and hundreds of pub games, local clubs etc etc will be playing football. In years past every school in land would have had at least 5 teams with football being dominant sport on curriculum.Rugby playing schools were few and far between.( except in a few areas) Yet now thousands claim to be Rugby fans, some of whom would die of fright if they found themselves in a scrum.

 

My nephew and his mates are new converts to following Rugby. Know all terms, teams and regularly knock football supporters ( which they all were only a few years back) Not one of them has ever kicked, thrown or caught a rugby ball. They know what a grubber kick is but couldn't do one for a pension. Its become trendy to support rugby..and I,m not saying you must have played a game to support it, far from it, but all these folk pushing rugby and shouting its sporting virtues cant have been in a changing room prior to a game. Underneath the game is just as full of gamesmanship and " cheating" as football, probably more so. This new breed of support has not witnessed that side of game.

A few years ago I went to local bar in France and it was packed. Room was split in two , one half supporting Catalan Dragons other half all expats shouting on some English side. Owner asked me if I was interested in rugby and who I,d be supporting. I replied

" no, not any more, I,ve played, I know what those blokes are putting each other through"

I left to watch football.

Rugby has become very gladitorial. Only my opinion. And it should be banned in schools. Most of half wits teaching it are similar to those I described earlier. Shouting at kids to make low hard tackles when they never have themselves. It really is a game you must have played to coach or teach, but even.played properly it has no place in schools.

I'm a grammar school boy, had to play rugby and hated it, but that's cos I was only 5 foot and got hammered. However I love the game and its intricacies.

I'm with Martin Johnson who,whilst being interviewed, referred to football as, The andrex league'. When asked what he meant he said,' 'Cos it's soft and unnecessarily expensive'. WHOA!

I shall now retire to the sofa and watch from a safe distance.

I stopped rugby at age 12 because of a concussion. At that same primary school 1 classmate lost a kidney and another a testicule! We were taught to play hard. Soccer was considered a sport for gays in NZ back in those days...

 

In high school the annual pupils vs teachers rugby match was scrapped for teachers safety and replaced with soccer - result two teachers in hospital with broken legs my final year

I survived school rugby but my son tore the ligaments in his arm and needed an operation, screws into the bone etc. then a further operation to remove said screws.

Quite frankly, it is an idiotic game, fine for adults who want face danger, but youngsters under 18 should not play it.

It is absolutely ridiculous that common injuries on the school ruby field, -bleeding noses, loose teeth, bruises and so on would not be accepted in the school play ground/yard whatever.

But RUGBY apparently sanitises these assaults.

Pehaps not, rugby is trivial since, as Zlatan observed, very few have ever played it.

 

And weddings are trivial events only necessary to enable the far more eventful divorce proceedings that so many seem to follow with.

 

I hope you're riding your new Cube soon though, it might be expensive but it's cheaper than many weddings, and divorces!

Hate to be the bringer of such bad news to you all but I,n afraid we will all be unable to watch this years FA cup final as it clashes with the not to be missed at any cost Royal Wedding. Please don't shoot the messenger.

You had me thinking there for a while, I'd never heard of heli tape in the past I've just used sticky backed vinyl in the key areas.

I'm going for carbon print vinyl on the down tube & chain stay of the new bike, just 1 or 2 pound on flebay for an A4 sheet clear vinyl wherever I strap my accessories

Horses mess, although unplesent it doesn't carry the same life threatening bacteria as dog eggs dose, endangering livestock and spreading disease.

Although I haven't anything against horses personally, I still think there's somthing not quite right with any animal that defecates whilst still walking

On a more positive side.. horse owners don't kick their animals out at night to sh1t in other people's gardens... which is probably for the best as they tend to drop large amounts.. unlike cats which at least try to bury it and leave it as a surprise for when you want to plant something.
