after much deliberation about whether we could get on with electric bikes we bit the bullet and bought two RooDog bikes the Chic and Mayfair, having never ridden Ebikes it was a real eye opener, we jumped on them for our first ride which was about 12 miles and both my wife and I smiled all the way home(think after about 2 miles it was frost bite!!). My only criticism of the ride was the seat was pretty uncomfortable, so looking to all you seasoned riders for advice about saddles, I'm probably about ten and a half stone in old money.

Thanks

Go to lidl when they have bike gear in the aisle (about twice yearly) and buy the medicus gel trekking saddle for under a tenner, one of the most comfy saddles around as a few on here will tell you.
I bought my Medicus trekking gel saddle from Amazon. Twice the price there but I am very pleased to be rid of numbness issues. I am about eleven stone with a small bum.
Ditto on the Medicus trekking gel saddle, I have 2 bikes both with these saddles.

No matter how soft and comfy a seat may feel, you won’t get the best out of it unless you fit a Suntour NCX seatpost. They don’t fit all bikes though and they will also raise the minimum seat height by 2-3”.

This is my very large gel saddle and NCX. Very comfy over long distances.1E2BB228-2784-4401-AAEB-E7316BB0EE51.jpeg.6e05cfd508b0a96b6e06b03e908beca2.jpeg

There seem to be a few different sorts, anyone have a link please?

I use a Brooks B17 on my main bike, perfect for me but not for everyone but need a decent saddle for one of my lesser used bikes.

Dave.

No link, they do three saddles. Narrow road bike/mtb.

Middle size trekking, I have 3 for use on mtb, 700c & Swizzbee.

Wide size or the one I call for large bum's.

Glad your into the new rides

What your getting is a typical pedelec problem because you spend a lot less time out of the saddle than you do on a standard bike

You also need to get used to the saddle in general if you don’t ride a bike normally

So give it a week or so before jumping onto another saddle as you may find it’s not so bad

I have one with a big hole cut out where my sensitive bits are. I have well over 6,000 km on it now.

I also have an NCX seat post and no more lower back pain.

And... the most comfortable of all - the deck chair on my trike :) No suspension but balloon tyres and lying down flat on a laced mesh seat is the only way to fly!

There seem to be two sorts, both described as trekking, do either of these look familiar?

I'd be guessing at the last link.

Many thanks folks, it sounds like a good recommendation. Now ordered, I'll post feedback when I get it. :)

Dave.

I am absolutely amased by the Suntour NCX seatpost. It's like floating on air instead of a constant jarring up the spine. (I ride in a very upright position on my e-bike). So, a big saddle and a suspension seatpost is my recommedation.

As we are now talking seat posts, I'll add that both of my Bikes also have ncx seat posts :p

This is an excellent saddle for me, just a short ride today on the full suspension which I bought it for and the old saddle is now abandoned. It's the most comfortable non Brooks saddle I've had. My well worn B17 on the hard tail with NCX still wins for me but the Medicus comes close.

There's also a woman's version.

Apologies to the OP as I seem to have taken the thread a bit sideways, any other advice for him?
