March 9Mar 9 Is there a national law on disposing of lithium iron cells as I have a couple a quite a few defunct cells that need to go somewhere I haven’t looked on my local council website yet.
March 9Mar 9 Your local tip should be able to tell you where to take your old batteries for disposal. Mine in Southend-On-Sea accepts them for disposal.
March 9Mar 9 I tried my local tip and they told me to just put the lithium cells in the general battery disposal bin. I declined.
March 9Mar 9 I read the Glascow central station fire is alleged to have started in the Vape shop. I hope the Vape lithium batteries are not to blame.
March 9Mar 9 I read the Glascow central station fire is alleged to have started in the Vape shop. I hope the Vape lithium batteries are not to blame. I think it is pretty unlikely they aren't? Even if they didn't start it they could have contributed to its severity.
March 9Mar 9 Just ask Count Dankula, he's beside the Glasgow fire, cough, cough, eek! Used a water extinguisher on lithium vape battery fire, they thought it was out, but then it went up again, apparently, woof.

April 1Apr 1 I have not read all 47 pages rather I have just skimmed the last couple. These cases are tragic and worrying, however, we must remember that LION batteries are used everywhere and the vast majority do not catch fire. I think the public are on a steep learning curve about how to treat and live with larger Lion batteries, i.e. they require respect. After all most of us would not store petrol in the path of our escape route from a building or go searching for a gas leak using a candle. Why? Because have respect for these everyday fuels and this is part of our corporate general knowledge. When possible I charge my ebike batteries using the correct charger and when possible outside but I am fortunate that I have access to private open space.

A 32% rise in a tiny number is still a tiny number.Total domestic fires in the UK in 2025 were between 33000, and 44,000In 2025 there were 436 fires caused by e-bikes. This was up by 120 fires from the previous year.It is estimated that there are between 1.5 million and 2 million e-bikes in the UK - so 436 out of that huge number went on fire - most likely because idiots abused them. Then stupid, ignorant, scaremongering newspaper hacks looking for a catchy bit of click bait published a headline came up with 'E-mergency: Bike fiires soar', and morons spread the garbage week after week after week as if it was interesting or remotely true.Do you know how many cars went on fire last year in the UK Lenny? Between 24,000 and 25,000. Most of them were internal combustion vehicles. Fewer than 2% of car fires involve battery powered vehicles (not hybrids).Stop spreading this garbage. April 7Apr 7 As a matter of fact, I was involved yesterday in putting out a fire yesterday in a steep valley where I go to watch deer. My partner and I were walking about a half a mile from my house and we noticed a lot of smoke coming from scrubby ground above us up the valley side. I set off up the 45 degree slope and left her on the path below. There were two seats to the fire which consisted of small flames which were about six inches high, but because of the steepness of the slope they were spreading uphill. The fire was about 150 feet above the path and dry, fallen twigs and leaves were burning. Not wanting to have this spread about the habitat up there, I set to, with a branch to knock out the fire. This was working quite well, but the extent of the burning, about thirty metres by about ten - it took a while. I was hampered by the steep slope and the overgrown rubbish like brambles which were tying me up. A much younger man came to help which was handy for the really steep bits, except that his dog, a spaniel of some kind, kept grabbing my stick which stopped me raking the material away from the fire. He thought it was a fine game. I was less amused by it than him. After about twenty five minutes we had it pretty much out, except that there were still smouldering patches and the brisk wind kept starting it off again. It was about then that the fire brigade arrived - a local volunteer detachment and they brought backpacks with water in and they could be left to damp it all down. My partner had dialled 999 and given the fire location. No batteries were involved. I suspect a sunny Easter Monday, and kids looking for adventure, may have had something to do with it. We found a small den built out of branches nearby. There will likely be very many hundreds if not more of such fires started by youths having 'fun'. These will not feature in Leny's, scaremongering 'statistics'. At least half an acre of woodland floor is now ashes. It could have been several acres had we not dealt with it.Sorry to say, I did not think to take a photo. Not that it was a forest fire or anything of the sort, just small flames consuming twigs and dried leaves in a very steep wooded valley. This place is almost better described as a gorge than a valley. It was a few hundred metres from this part here. You can see how steep sided the valley is. : Edited April 7Apr 7 by Tony1951
April 7Apr 7 I spotted this heron there, the other day. I see this bird a lot - also at the bottom of my garden occasionally. The river runs past my boundary. There used to be a pair of them about 9 years ago, but one died and the other has carried on alone since. It is a pretty huge bird when it takes to the air. It is a bit pre-historic looking, almost resembling a pterodactyl as it flies when you disturb it by coming a bit too close. Edited April 7Apr 7 by Tony1951
