If it continues like that we will have all esteemed pedelecers riding Argos bikes :)

It's rediculous, the 24v Eplus is £180 .

£245 one is much better

Yes I know it is but for someone really counting the pennies £180 is a bargain for a town bike.

WIth some discounts I can get the 36v model for £193.50, It might be handy for my cycling recouperation after my major surgery being a low step bike.

I could then at later date stick my 44v battey on it with a 22a KT , the speed controller would have to go . The motor is ok but I have a nice bafang CST 300rpm I beleive or the AKM 128C I could plonk in to it for real torque .

The AKM I think is 260rpm rather then the 201rpm listed when I bought it as I remember topping out at 19mph on a 26 mtb.

The battery position is a bit crap, as it is it coul dbe lower 3"s by the looks of it.

One could as d8veh said sell the ekit, hub and battery down the line and the bike won't owe one anything .

I have a host of spare parts to improve the bike, swept back bars to improve posture , integrated shifter hdb brakes. 9 speed cassette and derailleur.

If it isn't too personal a question, what surgery did you undergo? If you or your new upgraded bike get knackered, fold it into a bus train or automobile. Some buses insist on bagged, the larger companies in my area operating larger buses don't. The smaller ones do officially, but my bike has never been refused. I avoid the tiny bus company which pretty much states Brompton only, by folded dimensions, but they only operate two routes, neither of which I ever use, and their buses are clunky old dented bangers which look smoky inside.

My surgery is put back by three weeks so it is impending mid September .

I have a genetic hereditary bad gene so major bowel surgery to ward off carciogenic issues down the line.

Sorry to hear about that Nealh, I know from my own experience tumours and the prospect thereof is very worrying - I had one removed from my jaw, and even now decades later, I still somewhat live under a cloud wondering if it will ever return, which it could within the next ten years or so. I trust all goes well.

If the electrics including the battery is going to be replaced anyway, why not start with a high quality steel framed bike, like the Dahon Impulse? The Impulse has a reinforcement bar over the hinge, a smiliar frame to mine but in sensible steel instead of aluminium. No disc brakes, but that frame will last for many years. I believe both these bikes use the same frame, but sadly not the ultra rare version with rear 135mm drop in hub motor dropouts.

Hey I'm sorry to hear that.

I hope it goes well for you when it is done.

What size bar riser do these folders use, I see the rise/stem and handle bar are one piece from the adjustment lower down .
Well that's one advantage Dahons have: they use standard handlebars - wider can be installed, but go too wide and the bike won't fold as compactly. Most are height adjustable. Handlebars on (disc braked) Dahon Jetstreams aren't.

I was thinking about when my French niece comes to visit, we can all go for a ride about

I am tempted to buy two for my little girls, but I have literally no space for new bikes. I hope they won't discount them even more as I won't be able to resist temptation :)

They were cheap at £360. Now you can get one at half that price. This has to be the cheapest kit on the market at £180. It'sonly 24v, so an excellent candidate for beastification - a £20 controller and a pair of Turnigy 5ah 5S lipos for £80 gets you a beast for a grand total of £280:

Poor Az is not going to be able to resist this one.

I can't imagine why they are throwing bikes out of the front door at these kinds of prices. The suspicious and conspiracy minded among us, might imagine Argos know something dreadful about the bikes, but I am pretty sure that a company like this, would never dare sell anything they thought was unsafe or unsatisfactory. Besides - by all accounts they take back anything defective without any fuss at all, and refund in full.

Could be that they think they know some legal restriction is on the way for e-bikes and batteries without quality certification. They might not want to be left holding large stocks of unsalable goods.... I doubt it though.

I suppose going at about half price, they may be just dumping them at cost.

But why?

But why?

They reduced many bikes. It is unlikely something is wrong with this one.

Maybe some of them are returns and they are hoping to palm them off as this cheap price ?

Maybe, because of all the battery fire scare stories, bike sales are down so they're getting out of the market.

Or their warehouse insurers have kicked up rough about the storage - same end result.

It arrived. Everything is good. It has to be the best value e-bike on the market. The delivery guys were official Argos ones, so I asked them if they were delivering a lot. They said no, but they had to pick up a return today. I'll see them again next week when the £245 folder comes. Poor old Woosh has got no chance while they're selling these.

I wish I had a bit more storage space. If I did, I'd be writing to Argos to see if they wanted to sell a job lot of returns. £1000 fo 10, and I don't care what's wrong with them.

Maybe they just over bought and have not sold them as fast as they hoped.

Cash flow is important to a business like that and I suppose it is better for the accountants if they just dump surplus stock at cost.

I am wondering how Saneagle is liking his bike. He was supposed to be getting it today.

EDIT: ha ha - posted that remark while saneagle was pressing send, I think.

Double edit. My £245 Argos folder is coming to Newcastle for me on Sunday. I'll be tootling down there to pick it up.
