Its on its way, should be here by Tuesday, cost £371 48v 13ah. want to fit hydraulic brakes not sure if best to order now or wait till bike arrives, will let you know how it goes, putting together, quality etc.

Cable brakes often work fine when you first get them as long as they were pro0erly adjusted, but they soon go out of adjustment and lose perfotmance. You must adjust the position of the fixed pad first, and it needs re-adjusting every week or so. Hydraulic brakes need zero adjustment and always work reliably and consistently. Don't believe any stories about them needing bleeding. That's just people, who don't have a clue.

Noticed this while looking at a Bafang UART BBS01B mid-drive motor only, when I clicked the "?" next to "Price Adjustment". Did the initial price include VAT? Will VAT, duties, agent fees, etc. be collected for everything bought on AliExpress over £135 in value? Keep us posted.

"Price Adjustment

Orders shipped from outside of the UK with a goods value above GBP135 will be subject to VAT upon importation into the UK. The price of your order has been adjusted to reflect a later collection of VAT at the customs. You are encouraged to confirm the logistics and tax payment arrangement (including VAT, duties, agent fees, etc.) with the seller."

If there is one thing riding a motorbike taught me it is never skimp on brakes and tyres so thats the first thing I will change. Any recomendations for either please?

If you didn't enter any coupon codes to reduce price, why the price adjustment if it's being shipped from within the UK? Always worth clicking those little "?" symbols.

I haven't had to pay any duty on anything from China since at least 6 years ago, and I've ordered all sorts of things up to £2000 from Aliexpress and elsewhere, including batteries, motors, controllers, heating systems, power stations, etc. I think they changed the rules so that the Chinese are obliged to sort it all out at their end.

I hate all those things, definitely shipped from the UK as will be here by 26th at latest, six days from China isn't right. Here is the E Mail including price paid.

Your cheap controller will probably run on a bit, so you'll need brake switches. There are loads of creative solutions for how to deal with that. You can buy Chinese hydraulic brakes from Ebay that include the switches for around £35 a pair, but you'll need the cables and connectors to match what's on your bike, so you need to find out what's on your bike first. If you feel up to it, you can match anything by cutting off the connectors and joining the wires directly.

Alternatively, you can get stick-on switches that fit to any hydraulic brakes, in which case you can get any you want.

Tyres are more complicated. It's not like motorbikes at all. You have to balance the idea of having good grip against the chance of getting punctures. You'll probably soon figure out that you're willing to sacrifice a lot to have tyres that don't give you punctures. The best by a lot are Schwalbe Marathon Plus because they're hard as nails, but they have terrible grip. After that, it's down to you. Everybody has their favourites depending on where they ride and how many punctures they've had or get.

I quite like these as a hybrid solution, decent puncture resistance , ok for road / light off road, 4 season compound, good for freezing conditions

Yes. I think that's what I have on my crank-drive bike. It's nice to have a bit of grip on the trails, but I wouldn't use them on a ride-to-work bike because I prefer more slick tyres for efficiency.

On my hub-motor bike, I've been using the Schwalbe ebike tyres. I think they're called Energizer. They've been puncture free for about ten years. I changed the back one recently for something else, but I can't remember what. It was a more road oriented Schwalbe tyre with the blue guard in it that was on offer a couple of yers ago that somebody on the forum pointed out. It's too wet to go out to the garage at the moment to see what it is. Anyway, I haven't used it enough to figure out if it's any good.

I've been an advocate of Schwalbe Energiser tyres for the past 10 years and run nothing else on my hybrid ebikes, Great dry and wet grip, low rolling resistance and great puncture protection.

Plus they are great value when on offer, picked up a spare pair 700x38 recently for about £33 delivered below

The best tyres I had for grip were Continental Top Contact, but the side-walls cracked up after about a year. Their grip was exceptional, and it saved me from a serious accident once when a car pulled out on me. I jammed on the brakes as hard as I could, and they just stopped me dead without skidding. I couldn't believe it. I did get a few punctures with them too, so that and the cracking side-walls made me change.

I sometimes wonder if the hand of God is helping me when I survive incidents like that. In 1998, I was commuting 100 miles a day on a Honda 200 Benley. I had to get a replacement for the worn out front tyre. I wanted the same basic long-life commuteer tyre, but the shop only had a super expensive sports Pirelli tyre in that size and it was quite expensive. I had no choice as I needed it sorted urgently. A week later, a car pulled out on me on a dual carriageway, when I was doing about 60 mph. I still can't believe how the bike managed to stop in time, and I know it wouldn't have if I had the commuter tyre.

Then there was the incident when I got knocked overboard from my sailing boat into the sea in winter, and my friend on the boat didn't know how to control it, to come back to me. I was wearing thick winter gear and wellington boots. I thought I was heading straight to Davy Jones locker, but something seemed to be holding me up. When I finally got back on the boat, I discovered that I had put on a foam lifejacket vest thing under my waterproof jacket as a body warmer because it was so cold. That was the only time I'd ever worn a lifejacket on that boat!

I am going to have to recalibrate my brain for this switchover, used to get 750 miles out of the Mich Radials on the R1 so the back tyre was changed about every month, £150 a pop! Just looked at the Continental's, what is a foldable tyre please? Prices very from £20 to £69 per tyre for the Contacts happy to buy the best, at the end of the day your life depends on about 3inchs of rubber on a bike!

OK no laughing at the dumb motorcyclist moving to E Bikes who has been looking for the price difference on front and back tyres for his brand new e bike and couldn't find them! duh!

Disappointing.

If you still have it, you could cut off the sides, use the middle to line the interior of your Level 6 and get Level 13, like the apparently departed expert locksmith member Andy-Matt.

BITD we copydex's denim fabric to the inside of our tyres which added a bit more puncture protection.

I suppose these days you could buy kevlar fabric and attempt the same. The fabric is about 30 quid for 1mx2m, more than enough for several tyres

But truth be told, if you keep getting punctures its not the tyres ;)

Foldable tyres have no wire in the bead.

Foldable tyres have no wire in the bead.

Aye, its aramid or kevlar they use instead.

Or keeping up with modern time ...No Bead Whatsoever

Exclusively tubeless set ups. Not used them, but sounds like a fitting nightmare to me.

Get one from Amazon or Ebay. They mainly come from UK stock.

Ali express are just the portal hosting the ads for many different sellers/shops.. Some of which are dodgy folk.. not all..

Just keep an eye on the refund turning up and dont hesitate to start a CC claim if that deadline approaches and your still waiting.. Its a numbers game, you picked a dud, hopefully just someone content to play some market or other for a week or 2 on your $ and the refund arrives in a timely fashion, it could be worse, at least you didnt get a doll house ebike and a fight pointing out the one pic with the small print 'actual size' ;)

Meanwhile Name, n shame the seller here and everywhere you can, ...

On Ali express, if you click on the seller it gives you how long the store has been going, repeat buyers, how many items sold recently, etc

Aliexpress are really good with refunds. There won't be any trouble. If you order something, the seller must dispatch within a certain time. If they don't, Aliexpress cancels the order and refunds the money. I've had a couple of refunds from them on that basis when the seller didn't dispatch. I order so much stuff that I didn’t even notice the delays.

So loud knock on door today, and Parcel Force delivered the Uplee that I was supposed to be getting a refund for. Gobsmacked I got the box upstairs and very happy to report it was all ok. Its black instead of silver but not bothered about that. Easy assembly and out to the car park to give it a go. Promptly fell off trying to swing my leg over, tried again standing on my right (strong ) leg and off I went, tour of Liskeard, goes great, will start a thread on my experiences with it, but for now a very happy bear!

I will still try on occasion to swing my leg over the rear top box on my bike even though ive got a step thru !!

Now you have a moral dilemma to deal with, do you inform aliexpress of the delivery?

Yes, couldn't live with myself if I did not and I am very happy with the bike.

Just need some decent weather now!
