How many miles has it done?

How many replacement motors has it had or rebuilds?

Does it have the upgraded crank seal?

You should check the crank bearings very carefully, which is not so easy when it has a belt drive. For the chain drive one, you hook off the chain and rotate the cranks in both directions. Any roughness or bearing noise needs to be sorted immediately, otherwise water ingress will destroy the electronics.

Those motors can last a very long time if used in dry conditions, but they don't do so well in wet conditions. Their weakness is the seal arrangement on the cranks. There are two concentric shafts on the drive side because the sprocket rotates at a different speed to the pedals. When the CX motor first came out, there were frequent reports of failure at around 1,500 to 2,000 mikes.

Not for long, its actually like a dark carbon colour, but it will soon be yellow or orange!

you will all get fed up with my photos

I for one, love pictures of folks bikes and rides, so no complaints from me :)

her friends seem to get lots more punctures)

Sounds like they'd really benefit from going tubeless. Punctures would then be a thing of the past.

I effing hate thorns.

thorn puncture despite her Marathon 365 tyres

Those only have Greenguard, which from what I've seen is not as puncture-resistant as Plus - looked at the inner tubes on my secondhand bike with Marathon Racer Greenguarded tyres, they were patchworks of patches. Replaced with Marathon Plus, no punctures for thousands of miles.

I think they had double defence" Dualguard" level 6 protection when I bought them but other variants have level 5 " greenguard"

I see these have DualGuard, but I can't find any reference to them having level 6 protection.

Otherwise a likely looking tyre with a more sensible tread than Marathon Plus. I really didn't expect my MPs to last this long. Although fatter would be preferable if possible for my frame and mudguards, I might go with the same when they eventually go bald. Marathon Plus stink on wet mud (even small patches, also dicey on wet metal manhole covers) but have been ok on roads, even very wet roads in heavy rain while I'm going fast downhill around a sharpish bend and tilted sideways. I reckon this is their road holding limit, at least on my bike.

6 out of 7 clearly wasn't puncture proof enough. I'll stick with Plus.

I have had a solitary puncture on one of my (level 7) marathon plus tyres

Disappointing.

If you still have it, you could cut off the sides, use the middle to line the interior of your Level 6 and get Level 13, like the apparently departed expert locksmith member Andy-Matt.

If considering non black schwable Marathon tyres for the extra protection, DONT BOTHER, the ultra small print i noticed as i was chucking the spent packaging from my brand new cream coloured tyres, explicitly excludes all but the Black rubber variety form having any extra durable components.

That's interesting.

The extra protection is presumably from the supposed Kevlar fibre in the carcass.

https://www.schwalbe.com/en/technology-faq/tire-construction/

I wouldn't have thought the tread rubber colour would affect the internal construction?

"Kevlar fiber is used in bicycle tires to enhance their strength, puncture resistance, and durability. This material allows for lighter tires that can withstand sharp objects and rough terrains"

Hey ho :)

The kevlar is too thin to stop a nail or a thorn. Marathon plus tyres have a hard plastic band in addition to kevlar

I cant swear to the exact disclaimer, But im pretty sure it was 'rubber compound' centric rather than regard to any re-enforcement aspects of the composite make up of the tyres.. it could have been a reference to wear/durability?? But at the time i certainly took it to refer to general resistance??

Its on its way, should be here by Tuesday, cost £371 48v 13ah. want to fit hydraulic brakes not sure if best to order now or wait till bike arrives, will let you know how it goes, putting together, quality etc.

Can you link to the one you bought? Sounds a good price

The brakes probably will have "motor cut outs" so when you press the brakes the motor immediately cuts out. There are different possible connections so make sure you get the correct ones.

These are the ones that I got. , they will probably be the correct connection but double check

Looks like £36 for front and rear brakes. I don't think you need the disc rotor, just use the exisring

Lots of Chinese bikes come with the right lever connected to the rear brake and the left connected to the front. When I bought hydraulic brakes I swapped them round to right front / left rear (ie usual UK configuration) - so be careful to choose the desired configuration when you order

Was very easy to fit, I used the existing caliper adapters that were on the bike and just fitted the calipers/hoses/levers that were all connected together when I bought it was pre-filled with oil

Hi Pete? Peter?

Its the one Saneagle linked to, you get £45 off the advertised price when you go to buy it, I thought I was paying £417 but when I pushed the buy it button it charged me the above. I was a very happy bunny!

Let us know how it goes !

I was going to do a thread on it, my first experience of an E Bike from delivery, build, mods, screw ups etc, to first rides. Hopefully others might learn from my inevitable screw ups.

Noticed this while looking at a Bafang UART BBS01B mid-drive motor only, when I clicked the "?" next to "Price Adjustment". Did the initial price include VAT? Will VAT, duties, agent fees, etc. be collected for everything bought on AliExpress over £135 in value? Keep us posted.

"Price Adjustment

Orders shipped from outside of the UK with a goods value above GBP135 will be subject to VAT upon importation into the UK. The price of your order has been adjusted to reflect a later collection of VAT at the customs. You are encouraged to confirm the logistics and tax payment arrangement (including VAT, duties, agent fees, etc.) with the seller."
