Flecc,on that basis all the input from Rally Design into the chinese would justify me painting the whole Kudos bike frame in union jack colours not just a little sticker. Both Rally Design and Kudoscycles are wholly owned british family businesses,I have just celebrated Rally Design's 40th year of trading. However when asked where my bikes are manufactured I have to be honest and say China.
Sorry we are not going to agree on this one-IF YOU PUT A UNION JACK STICKER ON A PRODUCT THEN MOST PEOPLE WOULD ASSUME IT IS A BRITISH MADE PRODUCT NOT CHINESE.
My local WIsper dealer told me that the bikes are made in New Zealand! My ;ocal Ultramotor dealer told me that the A2B is made in the UK he wouldn't sell an asian made bike! One of the largest dealers of e-bikes in Holland has all stickers in Dutch, his bikes are all given Dutch names and his salesman are almost forced to wear clogs on his stand-I sat next to him on the bus in Guangzhou just about to complete the deal on another 10,000 chinese step thru's,KTM of Austria make many of their frames in the same factory as Kudos in China,BH bikes they are spanish-nope the EN15194 certificates are in chinese. You can't get away with this in the USA,if more than 40% of the manufacturing input is outside the USA then the country of origin must be stated upon.
Our law in the UK is very ambiguous,if it states 'made in China' then it must be made in that country. If it states'made in England' then it must be made in England but if it has no country of origin you are under no legal obligation to state the manufacturing source. Its about time we all got a bit more honest as to where these products are sourced.

Made in England :p

Well except for the motor, batteries, rims, various sundry parts, tyres ?

I think even the British Brooks saddle is made in France ?

I think most people if asked would think almost all bikes are made in China, but they'd be partly wrong of course. They're also made in Taiwan, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and numerous other countries, and often in very large numbers in those locations. Indeed, the worlds largest bicycle maker is Giant of Taiwan who make bikes both there and in China.

Equally I think few if any Britons would think any bikes are actually made in Britain so they are very unlikely to be misled by a union flag on a product. That's especially true of those who buy bikes, being aware of names like Shimano and equally aware that is certainly not an English name.

I see little significance in the usage of the union flag these days, now that people even wear it as shorts, an action which with other countries flags would often result in arrest and conviction, even imprisonment, since it would be seen as insulting.

Back to the OP.
The concept of a modicum of weather proofing on a bike will always attract inventors. The problem is that no-one can think of any acceptable design.
Dinghy sailors have the same problem.Of course for them, not being such an energetic pursuit, wet suits or even dry suits make all the difference.
On bikes, we used to cope with the old fashioned cycling cape which is still very popular world wide, and to a great extent, I am afraid that that is all we are going to get.

The thing that would also worry me is: how do you put your foot on the ground quickly when you stop or in an emergency, with all that stuff surrounding you? Actually, in the video when the rider stops he does not appear to have his foot down; does that mean that you rely on some flimsy little prop to hold you and the bike up when stationary? Another recipe for disaster!

My scooter is truly made in England. I can't remember seeing a Union Jack sticker though. German tyres and Korean wheels I think.
Interestingly my 2 special cars (Ford Escort Cosworth and RS200 mark2) were both made in Germany as it was considered to be better quality if made there.Swifty Scooters, Swifty ONE, adult scooter, folding scooter, folding kick bike, Jason Iftakhar, Camilla Iftakhar, made in Manchester UK, / ABOUT / Swifty Scooters
Hi,your cars hit the nostalgia button with me,I was working at Fords during that period.
The Escort Cosworth was manufactured by Karmann in Rheine,West Germany.
The 6 prototypes of the RS200 were manufactured at Boreham airfield. The GroupB homologation vehicles were made by Tickford,at that time in Coventry.
If you meant RS2000 Mk2 they were made at Dagenham and finished at Aveley,South Ockendon. I was working at that plant when it suddenly closed.
All the vehicles were designed by Rod Mansfield and John Wheeler of Ford SVO.

With all this talk of the "Union Jack", it may be worth reminding ourselves that in Scotland, and other colonies and ex-colonies, it is sometimes better known as the "Butcher's Apron".

I've lived in Scotland all my life and never once heard it called that.

I had a crossflow Cortina GT in 1967 Frank, bought from Peacocks of Balham who I'm sure you'll remember as being close to you at that time. All white, £868 brand new and had pride of place in the middle of their showroom.
