  1. New pics from a Rio MTB customer in Spain. We sent his bike directly there late January. doesn't it make you wonder what you are doing here in the rain? http://wooshbikes.co.uk/2018/rio-mtb/Bike1.jpg http://wooshbikes.co.uk/2018/rio-mtb/Bike2.jpg

  4. Not had much free time to keep this thread up to date lately due to one thing or another. Finally hit the 4000 mile mark, been a bit low on miles the last few weeks due to work holidays etc, but finally go there. Bike performing really well still. I did have to replace the pedals a week or so back as the bearings had shot on one of them. No biggie though. I do have a problem with the back wheel though, most likely caused by lack of servicing. I hit a chunk of metal on the way home last night, and pulled over to check the back wheel. No puncture thankfully, but I did notice that the wheel was out of true, but no obvious damage. Got home safely and gave it a good look over and notice that 2 or 3 of the spokes were very loose. Googled what to do and tightened them up. Span the wheel and it was still out...so proceeded do do what I thought would pull the wheel back in to something close to true. Needless to say, Ive made a right mess of it, and its worse now than before. Will have to take it in to a LBS to get it looked at. So, Ive driven the car today for safety sake, will hopefully get it into the shop after work today. Its possible that my lack of attention to the spokes over the 4000 miles have caused it rather than the chunk of metal I hit yesterday. But, given the results of my attempt at correcting the trueness of the wheel, its obvious why I have avoided the spokes in the past....
  5. The first day light ride, in what seems like forever. I had almost forgotten what my local playground looks like in the day time. Night or day, I love this piece of woodland, and often wonder how long that it will be, before it is sadly harvested for the timber.
  6. Big news from this side of the pond. Following small trials in Washington, DC, and San Fransisco, CA, Uber bought the JUMP ebikeshare company. The Washington Post reports that because of JUMP's participation in the DC dockless bikeshare trial, the DC city government is now going to look at revising it's municipal regulation prohibiting "Motorized Bicycles" from pavements outside the central business district, it helps that JUMP makes the rider lock up with a supplied U-lock to end the ride, during the DC trial this has helped cut down on #bikelitter. Moving forward where Uber expands ebikeshare to other US cities it should mean an easing of restrictions on where Class 1 pedelecs (20mph limited, no throttle) may operate. This can only be good for sales and maybe the advent of fleets of rental pedelecs on the streets of US cities might raise the popularity of that type of ebike in the US.
  7. Mr Uglev has gone a little further in his comments today.. "As a Russian citizen, I do not accept the great-power chauvinism fanned by the regime of Kremlin-Lubyanka thieves and killers, and therefore fully understand and support the policy of the British government towards Russia,” Mr Uglev said Full report in The Times.. apparently he,s emailed them from his holiday home on the Black Sea !? He must have a death wish ?? He,s not much time for Putin, I,ll bet Putin might find some for him ? Or WTF is going on ?

  11. Tuesday 10 April 2018 Press Release Collective sends 2nd protest against registration to Commission The Collective of European Importers of Electric Bicycles has sent a second, exhaustive position paper to the European Commission further objecting to the possible registration of imports. That registration has been requested by EBMA and, if granted by the European Commission, would allow for retroactive collection of anti-dumping duties. The Collective has reiterated and further detailed its arguments against the EBMA position. EBMA continues to build on unverifiable, Chinese export data to establish the so-called stockpiling, that requires registration. As a result, EBMA claims huge increase of Chinese exports in December 2017, January and February 2018. EBMA has consistently asked the Commission to treat these Chinese statistics as confidential information, since they allegedly have paid a fee to obtain the numbers. The Collective asks the Commission to disclose the identity of the data provider, which will also allow the Collective to obtain and verify the data for a fee. Improper assessment Nevertheless, the Chinese export statistics are not supported by Eurostat statistics. The Collective believes that this is due to the fact that the EBMA does not use the proper method for assessing the need for registration. Eurostat reports average monthly import volumes of around 68,670 units for the investigation period and an average of 59,200 in the three month following the initiation of the anti-dumping investigation. Even imports in January 2018, at 64,020 units, were lower than the average for the investigation period. So, the proper method for assessing the need for registration shows no surge in additional import volumes and/or stockpiling and therefore no need whatsoever for registration. Stockpiling practically impossible The Collective further argues that it is practically impossible for its members to stockpile in view of the way they work. They do not buy electric bikes off the shelve but have them tailor made, which involves very long lead-times, especiallyfor the parts to come in. These parts are in very high demand, since they are not only used for e-bike production in China but just as well for the European production of e-bikes. Even if an importer would have responded immediately to the Notice of Initiation (Oct. 2017), bikes ordered then will only be delivered well into 2018. Nevertheless, EBMAclaims that there exists an almost two year history of dumping which somehow indicates that EU importers should have been aware that dumping was taking place. EBMA relies on “rumours” about a potential anti-dumping complaint in the trade press back in Autumn 2016 to support the existence of such knowledge. Conveniently, however, EBMA omits that it expressly scotched such rumours at the end of November 2016 when it responded to them saying: “There is not any current EBMA request, nor – in EBMA’s knowledge – any new investigation at the European Union Commission at present. The rapidly growing imports from China to the EU are being monitored through Eurostat.” (Bike Europe, 29/11/2016) No (threat of) injury Conspicuously, the EBMA does not address any of the analysis provided by the Collective in its previous submission showing the absence of injury to the EU industry. As an example, in the 2017 financial report, the Accell Group notesfirst that it is one of the largest, if not the largest EU producers of e-bikes, and therefore potentially the price leader, and then confirms robust growth in its e-bike sales in the EU.Overall, for the Accell Group, turnover for e-bikes increased by 90% over a period almost commensurate with the injury investigation period. The growth in turnover between 2016 and 2017 was 30%. These results clearly donot indicate any injury measured in terms of revenues for e-bikes for this Group. The Group states that it also recorded a further increase in its order intake for 2018. Since future order intake is a crucial element of assessing actual injury or a threat thereof, the fact that publicly available information indicates that one of the largest EU e-bike producers has a healthy order intake points strongly to no such threat, contrary to the EBMA’s claims. Importing EBMA-members Finally, the Collective questions whether a significant number of EBMA’s members can actually be considered as part of the EU industry, because they themselves are significant importers of electric bicycles from China. It is relatively clear from the Commission’s non-confidential files that Prophete is a related importer for one of the sampled EU producers. Another EBMA-member, BH is part of the importers’ sample. As for Oxylane, it is part of Decathlon which, as reported by Bike Europe(16/01/2018), sells 60,000 to 70,000 per year which are currently being produced in China. Therefore, the Collective requests the Commission to carefully consider the impact of these activities. It also raises the question as to whether the sampled EU producers are actually part of a real EU manufacturing industry for e-bikesand to what extent EU enterprises have self-inflicted injury by engaging in these practices. The Collective is convinced that registration of imports willinflict further and disproportionate damage to EU importers. It would have an unjustified chilling effect with potential cancellation of deliveries, because EU importers cannot reasonably assess the risk involved in retroactive collection of duties at a completely unknown duty rate. The European Commission has until 20th April to decide on registration, which creates the possibility of retroactive collection. However, should registration be imposed, duties will only be collected on condition that the Commission decides for definitive dumping duties. That decision is still a long way off. * For the full text of the Collective’s submission, any further details or interviews, please contact Annick Roetynck, tel. +32 9 233 60 05, email leva-eu@telenet.be
  12. Interesting development and a very brave chap.. " Kathrin Hille in Moscow April 9, 2018 A key member of the Soviet research team that developed the nerve agent the UK claimed was used to poison the former double agent Sergei Skripal has sided with the British government in its dispute with Moscow. Vladimir Uglev said he was convinced Mr Skripal and his daughter Yulia had been attacked in the English city of Salisbury with a compound he had developed in 1975. However, he cautioned it would be impossible to prove beyond doubt where the nerve agent had originated."
  13. I stand corrected Daveboy:)
  14. I have had no end of problems with spoke tension on my Oxydrive kit. I think they must make them out of pasta.
  15. Glad to see I,m going up in your self esteemed opinion.
  16. Superb choice of bike. I was beginning to think that I had the only one. Out of all of the eMTB's that I have owned, this is by far my favourite. It does everything that I want from a bike and more, and whilst many Boltron fork owners don't like them, I really love them. They have weird characteristics, as in pulling to the left under heavy braking, but they are super compliant, and work exceptionally well. If I were to have a complaint in respect of the bike, it would be the paint work. I find the matt paintwork finish, very difficult to keep clean. Beside that one moan, the bike never fails to make me smile when riding it.

  18. 1 point
great first ride today done about 20 miles. mixture of roads and woods. loved the power of the Bosch motor, but was a little scared when coming to wash it. now I'm back home, I want to get back on it.
  19. I'm sure my Bosch battery is marked Made in Poland, and someone said the motors are made in France. Not that it's so important, although the only bit I've had conk out on any of my three Bosch bikes is the Chinese made thumbswitch. Quality components, properly assembled is all that's needed. The premium German brands are good at that. It comes down to what you value. I would rather pay slightly more for a slightly better overall product, which is what you get with the likes of Riese and Muller. Some buyers are very price sensitive. We all make our choices.
  20. hello just a line to say hello and a few obwervations of my mountain bike expiriance im brand new out of the box when it comes to e /bikes i had a old carrera hybrid which i used for small loops in the summer but nowt seroius i told the bloke in the shop i wanted a hybrid 50/50 type bike and he steered me towards the cube reaction and the hiabike hard 7 you could flip a coin ..but i thought the cube was a bigger machine for my frame and maby a tad more suited to racks ect..need the ability to carry me flask puncture stuff take layers on and off ...i set it up for comfort im fully aware that i have the handlebars wrong and too wide and the seatpost wrong for entering the world cup ... im just on a pony treck .. i do drop the seatpost now in the woods and park me ass on the rear bag now and again .i figured that out by crunching me nuts too many times any way the cube it wasDSC_0854 by minkyhead56, on Flickr DSC_0988 by minkyhead56, on Flickr i never intended doin owt spectacular or too hard on it but looking at some of the reviews and videos it seems to have more than enough capability for a novice to be going on with ive been riding dirtbikes for 40 years and thought some of that would rub off on the moutain bike ...how wrong could i be ?? very very wrong ..steep declines on me dirtbike are assisted by engine braking and tyres .. sure i use the frant and rear brakes ...but on the pushbike its all brakes position and tyres ..i want too bad getting some control as im used to wheel lock its just the amount of brake an pressure is hugely increased you use the pegs a lot to steer or change direction on me motorbikes but thats not happening to easy on cranked pedels he he going up stuff its pretty comical right gear right assist level trying to get the pedels to clear tree roots has resulted in some crushed nuts and impromtue wheelies ..i mean stuff i would consider eassy on a dirtbike take on a whole lot more diffficulty ..i am getting a bit more switched on and improving bit by bit tbo i never intended anything spectacular ,,,i actually asked the guy for a mk 1 landrover and in that respect i think i got the right bike ...i could have spent 3000 quid more and not really done alot better ..i need to get the basics in place ...as with me dirtbikes ..its no use buying a high end ktm unless you know what to do when your on it anyway i had the intention of just doing tracks and trails mostly local using me garmin with landranger maps all the places me dirtbikes are banned from .. and its been most exelent the garmin is amazing on the mountain bike i can get miles and miles on tracks that you would not know exist take all the guesswork out but you will get the odd swing gate and styles but bugger me it been amaxing where i can get too ..makes the ride mega interesting ive even carried it down strean to get around a locked gate that shouldnt be ..at least the one thing im used to is the tyres slipping sideways and keeping going ..and some of me braking skills transfer well too ...again i have been pretty impressed by what these little tyres will float over ..i never really thought they would for instance let me pedel over a ploughed feild ..but hey they do great ive read lots of stuff where folks go ages without a puncture ..but me ..i were getting splatted by them ..like every ride ...five in one hit ?? so ive converted to tubless with that stans stuff in and all is much much better ... so there you go a novices tail ..im getting about real well and dont really clock milage but im usualy out 3/4 hours in the boon docks and use very very little road ... easy trails the odd hill and woddy bit ..i have a little practice here nad there and its great fun and generlaly low speed when i land on me ass so all good quite happy on me mk1 landrover ..it bloody weighs as much as landrover too when you have to lift it over fences .. keep well by minkyhead56, on Flickr] rally by minkyhead56, on Flickr this is just a spoof i did for me dirtbike pals and tbo thats pretty much as hard as i will go ..really liking its ability to get me off the beaten track ..i wanst quite sure how id take to it ..if id wain and lose interest but no 6 months on i use it a lot ..in motorbike terms i like a duel purpose bike ..and this cube seems pretty spot on for basic tracks and trails seems to have a reasonble ability on rugged tracks and rides nice on the road . its .all good fun and for a first bike from a novices point of view it seems to be more than capable of anything i feel like trying with my limited skill set ..its certainly more capable than the rider ..for a comuter ..which im not and for a bit of non hardcore off road fun reasonable trails .. it seems to fit the bill very well two things i dont like ...tubed tyres ..and its heavy ..not to ride but to lift ..im a fairly strong guy but its a awkward thing to get over fences ..maby a set of very steep steps ..but other than that im pretty happy with it DSC_0971 by minkyhead56, on Flickr DSC_0973 by minkyhead56, on Flickr DSC_0988 by minkyhead56, on Flickr
  21. Certainly shows how grossly biased he was in his being "convinced" about the material used and who used it. As you post, what is going on? Maybe he's already in touch with British officials and hoping to be admitted to Britain with a nice pension for being so useful at this critical time. .
  22. Our problem is that we blame the dog saying it did it's homework wrong! Then Boris claimed the Dog lied to him!
  23. In all my engineering life I've tried to shy away from adjustable spanners. Right from my apprenticeship 55 years ago I was told "if a job's worth doing it's worth using the right tools". I still despair when I see an adjustable spanner, usually on the floor with all the other tools, at my LBS
  24. Have we enough resources to buy an Army, Navy and Air Force capable of taking on the Russians? Or are we hoping for an EU grant to do so?
  25. Re Riese and Muller. They are certainly assembled in Germany, I have been there and seen the factory. The frames come in from Taiwan and most of the components are made in Asia as per most electric or vanilla bikes. A large percentage of the Bosch motor parts are made in China. I'm not sure where the battery is made but I would guess China or Japan, but certainly Asia. So what? Although they are only assembled in Germany, it does not mean to say they are not great bikes. They are assembled with care and precision... as are most of the products that come out of China in particular or Asia in General When will we stop worrying about where a product is made/built, surely it's the product that counts not the country of origin? As long as the assemblers and buyers are happy that slave or child labour is not being used to make the products, it really doesn't matter.
  26. You are definitely trolling now...feck awf again.
  27. No need for an EU grant - May will simply shake the magic money tree again! Tom
  28. Of course[emoji23] why didn't I think of that? Sent from my XT1032 using Tapatalk
  29. ..or equally obviously he has been following the story, has become aware of the treatment, knows its effects and has spoken out. Or he has been advised to do so by his superiors... Note that this is a very logical position, he can preemptively defuse any finding by the international laboratories, by accepting that it is a variant, but not accepting where it was manufactured. By accepting the first, he strengthens his credibility for the second and more crucial element. If you want to tell a lie, mix it with credible truth....it always worked for me.... Don't say the dog ate my homework, when you don't have a dog...
  30. In the Dail Express "Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said in February that Britain should consider joining military action against Assad's regime if there is fresh "incontrovertible" evidence he has used chemical weapons against his own people." Oxymoron Warning:Oxymoron Warning:Oxymoron Warning: Boris and "incontrovertible evidence" in the same sentence. Come on Boris you can't let evidence get in the way of a profitable little war over a trivial thing like "incontrovertible evidence"
  31. Glory be! "I do not accept the great-power chauvinism fanned by the regime of Kremlin-Lubyanka thieves and killers" Doesn't that strike you as about the most unlikely utterance for a normal human being who is not , or was not an agent of some clandestine organisation to make? It isn't of course, it's an utterance from one proud to work for the USSR, and so morally degraded as to be involved in creating these Evil weapons designed to cause death and suffering. And now he has turned traitor to the vows of secrecy he took to his nation. What is the word of an example of Human Moral perversion like that worth? And he sees no hypocrisy in calling others "Thieves and Killers" What the heck does that make him? This guy was obviously a disappointed Communist with a turn of phrase typical of that era, he has nearly as impartial view of Putin as you have Zlatan! Great fun of course, but irrelevent, as he has contributed nothing other than an attitude like yours. "Holiday home on the Black Sea" would rather suggest another Russian Oligarc at odds with the failure of the USSR.
  32. 'Just lie through your teeth Amber and walk away but do it politely. It worked for me! Regards, Theresa https://www.thepoke.co.uk/2018/04/10/end-sky-news-interview-amber-rudd-tells-need-know/ Tom
  33. The leading members in the political wing of the self-serving fascist elite of British society, pushing hard to drag the UK into international solitude or worse, as the adopted 51st state of America, have once again demonstrated how unfit they are for government. 'Brexit' for them is purely about furthering all their dreams of personal, untaxed wealth expansion at the expense of the 'have-nots'. The mainstream media can be relied upon only to publish tory propaganda as their interest is purely in ensuring the maintenance and further development of the status quo - a two tier society of which they are part, owned by members of the elite establishment. James O'Brien, the broadcaster, speaks out on another episode of deliberate lying by a government minister......and one or two other nasty people: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10156030542881558 Tom
  34. increased hostilities mean the DoD gets more money. I bet Gavin Williamson wants it.
  35. Mr Trump expects France to join. I expect Germany to stay away. It's an American strategy to contain Russia at the end of the day. As I said all along, the best thing for peace in Europe is for Russia to join the EU.
  36. But that's already failed, their NATO encirclement of Russia's part frozen west is a busted flush, since Russia has effectively burst out in a far more valuable direction, the south. The Med, Southern Europe, the Middle East and Africa all in prospect for direct access by land and sea, with at least two allies to assist. Some containment. .
  37. To be fair I can understand the bike shop putting it on - they would want to see me again to see how things are and to perhaps get an oportunity to sell me some accessories. I don't see there being a problem with just dropping in and asking for it to be removed in a few months - it's only going to take 5mins and I don't really want them to do any service so I think it's something that would be done for free whilst I have a browse. I think that's the benefit of local bike shops so hopefully they can continue to survive as they really do often add value. Many thanks,
  38. All on his own? My wasn't he a clever chap, odd that he claimed personal credit, not helped to develop the compound "Vladimir Uglev said he was convinced Mr Skripal and his daughter Yulia had been attacked in the English city of Salisbury with a compound he had developed in 1975." Did he actually name the compound? No "He cautioned it would be impossible to prove beyond doubt where the nerve agent had originated" And of course by whom, as in "The victim was killed by a Gunshot, it can only have been Vladimir Putin" Did he blame anyone? No If he worked in Porton Down and made such an allegation he would be in jail right now, do you imagine Russia doesn't have an equivalent of the "Official Secrets Act?" And that it applies lifelong as ours does? Nothing new here, just an obvious attempt to ressurect a now dead story Now ask yourself if Putin is the ogre he is painted out to be, who in their right mind would make such a claim? Real name? Not likely if his location is Russia, for how would he gain from this revelation? Come on Zlatan, engage in thinking before swallowing porkies like this one.
  39. If some elderly Russian chemist/scientist or whatever is speaking out against Putin and/or the Russian regime, my guess is that he has a terminal illness and hasn't long to live. If he doesn't have such an illness, then I fear he very soon will have one! Tom
  40. Utter nonsense! How can he be "convinced" when he's had no access to the material from Salisbury or know what actually happened. Even we don't know what happened yet, the police are still trying to find out. He's obviously suffering from an attack of gut feeling, and possibly fancying a bit of publicity. .
  41. his command of the English language is of extremely high standard, certainly way better than mine. That says something about Russian education. Alternatively, the email is written by someone who is schooled here.
  42. What is rather worrying is the Government seeming keen on taking military action in Syria in support of Trump. We really do not need another war. The Russians have already been inflamed by TM and now she wants to do this? How can escalating an existing war make anything better? And taking on possibly the second, (maybe even the first) greatest military force on the planet with the tattered and bankrupt remains of our undoubtedly brave, determined and Patriotic forces is simply a criminal act against them. History repeats itself they say, poor old Father went to France as a Sergeant Major in the East Yorkshire Regiment, with BEF and what was he armed with? a Sergeant Major's Baton, and his Revolver Case filled with toffees, to face the most efficient and best armed enemy on the planet. I can imagine his reaction to this news if he was alive today.
