  1. buy an airzound....that should frighten them off !!!
  2. ok....point taken...how many nuclear ones then.........
  3. now heres a thought,if everycar/bus/lorry in the uk was electric......how many wind farms would need to be built....i reckon everyone would need one of the really big ones in there back garden/yard....hmmmmmmmm
  4. enjoy, you don't realise how good ebikes are until you get back on a conventional bike and ride up a hill.I did that with my son last week and he motored up the hill whilst i laboured up at 5mph....shattered when reaching the top ! I am sure you will have many miles of pleasent cycling
  5. hopefully i will be at rochdale at the weekend...just a little too far to make it on my Euro ..given the size of the hills and the 23.2miles shortest each way distance....between my home and rochdale..Ulness you want to call round for a brew whilst i try one !!! When will the new bikes be on the website?
  6. you beat me to it flecc,,do you want to delete my thread.
  7. working lunch there was a nice little bit of TV promoting electric bikes for The Electric Transport shop on Working Lunch today..It showed one or two bikes in the flesh......the crusade has started...Working Lunch today ...the world tomorrow !!!!
  8. the web page for bikesandbatterys is bikesandbatterys.co.uk
  9. Great idea, stickers for import problems ! If i can ever afford an Optibike can you send me your sticker in case i get stopped !!!!!
  10. On saturday i completed a 17 mile journey with a mixture of hills and flat into a stong headwind on my Powabyke 6sp Euro, complete with 3 year old lead acid battery.I still managed to pass a group of 6 cyclists on a hill,i reckon i was using less effort and travelling at twice the speed. When i reached home the battery indicator was just under half capacity.I don't really try to save power, usually pedalling to achieve 15mph.Its not as pleasing to the eye as some of the newer more expensive bikes but as far as i am concerned it certainly delivers..One day, when i have the money i will get a lithium for it,which given the weight saving should give even better performance...
  11. thats a pretty impressive mileage Chris,,,given tha batteries are only £150 each you could get another 2 and have a real touring machine......
  12. if you know kens email address flecc,i think i will advise him that he should become mayor of blackburn.....i she he could improve things around here
  13. i had a similar set up to John with a seat on the cross bar and folding footrests on the....whatever you call the angled bit between cross bar and pedals..what a tech description !
  14. I think that wherever possible segregated paths are better. For more experienced cyclists dedicated lanes are fine...but to get our children back on two wheels we need decent paths alongside roads where they are relatively safe whilst 'learning their trade' so to speak. I think the Police have a difficult job with too many financial restraints. How often do you see police catching some celebrity,,then the famous lawyer gets them off on a technicality...what sort of message does that send to every other driver...its not the Police who are an ass....its the law !!!
  15. If this government or the next is really serious about going green and improving transport then we have to have more designated cycling lanes not the painted jokes where you ride in and hit 3 parked cars forcing you out into the road..I think a lot of people would now be interested in ebikes given the price of fuel, but then take one look at the dangers of the road and scrap the idea. How many of us have had near misses recently ? If we want to get our children on their bikes we have to make it safe for them to do so. My son is 17 and my wife argued about him using my powabyke to go to his girlfriends. Our road is a race track,as are lots of others and we need segregation from them.If we have congestion charges some of that money must be invested in cycleways.
  16. i am all for reducing traffic and improving public transport to improve the envir oment but....how much money will be spent on designated cycle lanes to improve safety for cyclists.....not very much if any at all is the answer. I also feel that any congestion charge should be earnings related,,it will drive poorer people off the roads and improve travelling times for those who can afford it,,,after all whats a few quid to somebody who can afford to drive mercs bmws and range rovers.. We pay tax on our wages, tax on a new car, special tax on a new car, road tax, petrol tax...parking fees......all these taxes were supposed to improve our existing public transport network.Where is the money going ??? Only the wealthy will be able to drive soon...i good move for those involved.
  17. thanks Flecc thats a great help....it certainly narrows down the type of bike i should be looking at..if i change...
  18. i still think we need some way of distinguishing what is a hill climber and on what gradient of hill....there are some significant hills where i live,,i have a Powabyke and i think its ok because i can now ride up hills that would have crucified me before,,but if i was to change bikes it is very difficult to choose.I would hate to spend say £1500 on a pro connect and find it wasn't significantly better than what i have...It seems a bit hit and miss as to whether you get the right bike...
  19. take a look at Pedelecs&E-Bikes - Products, Vehicle Tests, BatteryTest, Manufacturers, Company Reports, Archive - ExtraEnergy.org further test results in june,,,unfortunately it doesn't cover all bikes which are common in this forum ie wisper/torq/powabyke:(
  20. i'd like to know if yoy can do the same to my powabyke and get 100 miles per charge off one battery.....!!!! :D
  21. how steep are these hills you guys are talking about ? Just trying to get an idea as to how wispers compare aginst Powabykes.
  22. not a recent one...they look like this POWABYKE BATTERY ALL MODELS 15AMP BATTERIES NEW CASE on eBay, also, Bikes, Cycling, Sporting Goods (end time 26-May-08 09:51:05 BST) they are also 15amp as apposed to the 12amp batteries
  23. its very strange, despite the potholes etc,two lane roads having 3 cars 6 motorbikes and 5 pedal bikes 4 tuc tucs and a lorry side by side,,there are amazingly very few accidents, probably because if the slower speed of traffic...The motorcycle test involves bikes doing a figure of eight..the reasoning for that presumably being because of the way that they have to dodge other road users !!....oh and if you fail the test..200 rupees will buy you through !! thats about £2.48......personally i think i would pay them 100 times more to keep failing me !!
  24. i have just returned from Pune in India, cars ,bikes and Tuc Tucs go the wrong way along roads, the wrong way up hard shoulders etc Lorries don't have rear lights and Bicycles don't have ANY lights although occasionally an odd one will make the effort and attach a cd to the bike !!!...You haven't experienced driving until you have been to India ....believe me
  25. I accept that there are a lot of variations but, just for example say somebody like you Flecc(not wishing to give you lots of work)were to test bikes over a set test route,it would give some sort of benchmark were riders could compare the different bikes.Same rider, same test route, similar input. It would be a lot better than riders from all over the country giving their views because as you say, there are too many variations.
