Most eBike customers don't read this form.

 

Not quite that simple though since no-one knows. Members coming in are always greatly outnumbered by visitors reading. At this point of posting 13 members and 50 visitors are in, and visitors can get into the hundreds at times.

I'm afraid our willingness to help (ie save you a $58.00) delivery charge goes out of the window, when you email us asking for support and then immediately come on here saying we're not helping. If you want support, handle it via email professionally. I've spent loads of time responding to all your comments on here, which has cost me a lot more than $58.00

 

So I'm going to suggest is that you buy the bearing, and fix your drive and move on.

 

Had the bearing not been available then we would have looked at other options. Currently you're now complaining about a shipping charge from China that means you're bike will be fixed for a total of $58.82

 

Which is under £40.00

Didn't he say that the Chinese supplier has a minimum order of 100, which makes it $82 + $58 = $140 = £85 plus £15 duty and handling =£100.

 

Why don't you just send him the 'kin bearing, then we can all relax? Is it because you don't have one, and like Artstu, you can't get one either? My guess is that you're full of good intentions and wanted to help him, but you found out that it's not so easy even for an authorised Bosch dealer to get spares.

no he didn't. I've seen the emails. He can order one, and the price is $0.82, there is no minimum order..

We're not a Bosch retailer, and we don't sell to the public. We can get one just as easily as Stu can, its not hard. However I'd used my common sense and try the UK suppliers before going to China.

 

As I've said above, he's not even called any Bosch dealers to see if they have one, or can get one.

As the owner of two Bosch classic machines, I have some thoughts about this bearing failure.

 

One of the earliest problems with the classic drive was the "popping" sound, the result of the drive-side pedal shaft bearing being unable to "float" through lack of grease. The correction process involved exposing not only the drive-side bearing but more importantly the seal which protects it from ingress of abrasive dust or mud. It appears this seal is not particularly robust.

 

"Figure 7: Clean the bearing seat in the cover. In the process, do NOT touch the seal or contaminate it with grease. Only in case of visible contamination should you clean the seal with a dry, clean, soft cloth without applying pressure."

I really think it is becoming quite transparant on these forums that KTM provide hardly bugger all service to anybody other than sales.

 

Pass the buck attitude. Sorry Col, nothing personal but it comes across like that regardless of my opinion and personal experiences with KTM UK. (I really sympathise with the poor traders here and the poor consumers who buy KTMs when they find themselves with issues).

 

KTM bikes are great bikes. They get publicised here by KTM uk officially but when it comes to the crunch it is all bluster, wind and bugger all end assistance it seems.

 

Ps.. Will the KTM Uk contract need to be re- negotiated for a newly independent Scotland or is it up for grabs?? :)

Without searching back through the whole thread, can someone forward or post up the bearing number?
That isn't the one he needs. The one he's having trouble with is non-standard. You can't buy it from a bearing supplier. It's the same as a 6004, but with a 21.3mm inside diameter. A standard 6004 is 20 x 42 x 12mm
If someone can give the number, I have two sources that are worth trying, and will happily do so tomorrow.

This is getting very confusing. Is this bearing actually a part which it's possible to obtain at all? Since originally the story was that the motor is non serviceable and bearing replacement wasn't an option why would a Bosch dealer have such a part? It seems as if its a Bosch specific part anyway so not obtainable from a bearing supplier, and possibly one only used by the manufacturer in assembly.

 

I think KTM underestimates the reach of threads like this one. Googling Bosch e bikes will throw this up PDQ to anyone interested in one.

Every part of the motor should be available to buy direct from Bosch.

 

I don't even expect them to have the inventory in the UK, because a bit can be shipped from Germany in a few days.

 

Part of the problem may be Bosch's secret squirrel attitude to their products - I was surprised to see they released that exploded pic.

 

And once again, there is no clear route to service or parts.

 

I suppose the overall shortage of Bosch motors may still be playing a part, but Bosch - or their supplier - probably have a bin full of these ruddy bearings somewhere.

The bearing I've been offered is this one attached. However after measuring the shaft with a cheap digital vernier I feel 21.2 mm is more like it. When I was offered this one I thought it must be the one.

I originally got a 21.3 mm measurement and so asked for that size,only the 21.4 mm one was offered though. So I'm not so sure now. I'll ask if they do a 21.2 mm one.

 

The bike is built up and on the road again now, I put the old bearing back in for now, and a new 65 x 50 x 7 to replace the worn one. Perhaps I'll be able to change the 42 x 21.2/21.4? x 12 in the future when we've worked out where to get one from.21.4bearing.thumb.JPG.aa685d3c144590d2354ba97aa0e29ce5.JPG

It has NBR Fe 13-47 on one side and NBR Fe 13-71 on the other side.

As a prospective e-bike buyer I think I would find all this a bit off putting to say the least! I have been considering a new e-bike, but dare I sell the Scott second hand? I would be constantly worried that it might fail for the buyer.. Whereas previous to this post I would happily sell it to a friend!!!

It comes back to the primitive way the industry still operates. Other industries have moved on but the e bike trade still carries on as they did at a time when small bicycle makers built a model in a run of fifty or less.

 

KTM and Bosch are large companies and it should not matter where the bike was bought. That relates to the warranty thread also and the antiquated and customer unfriendly warranty arrangements. All this is p*ss poor.

Had it been a warranty, Bosch would have supplied a new drive and this would have been done though the dealer from where the bike was purchased or us, or even another dealer if they wanted the work.

 

So some points to note:

I read this thread from end to end and It's my personal opinion that the attitude shown is poor. I would not buy a Bosch motored bike after this.

 

BTW both Kalkhoff and Woosh have transferable warranties. That's just two.

its just a cartridge bearing. Bearings are designed to wear out, and be replaced when they do. All bearings have a life span. Its hardly an un reliable system, this customer has done 4000 miles now with no issues.

Sorry but I dont agree. the life of a product should far exceed the warranty period, I thought the warranty was designed to cover for manufacturing and other faults that develop earlier than they should. I would expect mine to last far longer than 2 years..
