February 25, 201412 yr Author Here is how it brakes: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5905557/bikes/jetstream/20140225_194927.mp4 What do you think? For me it really looks like a lack of pressure in the jaws
February 25, 201412 yr It could be the two worn ridges are touching when you apply the brakes, if the ridge depths add up to the same thickness as the disc. Remove the ridges with a file and taper whats left back to the backing plate so that it can't build up again - try not to breath in any dust you make. Do the adjustments advised when you have to fit new pads.
February 25, 201412 yr Author thanks Shemozzle, but if you look at the video you can see the 2 ridge don't touch each other. So I'm not sure removing the ridge would make any difference.
February 25, 201412 yr A bastard file will sort the ridge - just go easy - don't get carried away Oh, and do it outdoors so you don't breathe in the dust. Hah! great minds think alike - & fools...
February 25, 201412 yr Author You're both talking about filling this part right? Have you seen on the video the 2 pads barely move? https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5905557/bikes/jetstream/20140225_194927.mp4 There isn't enough clamping power in order to close the gap between the 2 pads. So I wonder how filling it would allow better braking power?
February 26, 201412 yr A bastard file will sort the ridge - just go easy - don't get carried away Oh, and do it outdoors so you don't breathe in the dust. Hah! great minds think alike - & fools... Language Timothy:eek:.....or is it Pete:D
February 26, 201412 yr I had the same theory as Shemozzle i.e. pads touching as the caliper is not fitted correctly and resulting radically in reducing pressure on the disc. A couple more thoughts, do you have the correct diameter rotor and what condition is it in, is the caliper adapter bracket the wrong size thus preventing the whole of the pad contacting the disc?
February 26, 201412 yr The ridge shouldn't be there, & indicates your caliper & disc are not aligned properly. The pads have apparently worn down quickly, which may explain why there's not enough fluid to close them up any further. Filing is merely a temporary measure to eliminate pad binding from the equasion. You need new pads, proper alignment or new caliper & maybe disc too.
February 26, 201412 yr cwah, you will have to replace the pads anyway, they are too worn to be safe. Before you install the new pads though, if you could post some pictures of your rotor and the mount of the caliper, we'll have a better idea why part of your pads is outside the rotor's surface.
February 27, 201412 yr Author Here are the pictures of the rotor, mount: How can you tell it's not fitted correctly? It was braking very well 2 weeks ago... I ordered a new brake set (exact same one), I'm waiting for them to arrive to see what's the diagnostic
February 27, 201412 yr Hi cwah, It is clear from the photos that only 2 thirds of the pad surfaces are contacting the disc brake rotor. I also note that the calliper adapter bracket is for a 160 mm rotor and can only assume that the rotor fitted is less than 160 mm diameter?
February 27, 201412 yr Author That's the kit I've purchased: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251346684546?var=550285631499&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
February 27, 201412 yr There is negative feedback on this Ebay item http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=www.bikeaholics&iid=251346684546&de=off&items=25&which=negative&interval=30&_trkparms=negative_30 admittedly only one person and the seller claims more than 200 sold, but there is clearly something wrong, is that rotor really 160 mm as claimed?
February 27, 201412 yr Author Yeah I purchased another set to fix my current one.. . I hope it's going to work
March 18, 201412 yr Author Good point with DIY led stuff is that thieves are not that motivated to steal it from me I've also received my chinese £2.50 horn: It works but it has an horrible trumpet noise... I'll have to test this horn outside and see how people react... they may not understand because it doesn't sound like a car klaxon :/
March 18, 201412 yr How have you fixed it to y0ur ike, Cwah. You know that you have to bolt it through the attached arm and the main part shouldn't touch anything?
March 18, 201412 yr Author I haven't really bolted it. The the arm is attached to my hose clip. It does look ok
March 19, 201412 yr Author Jerry, you can find here the sound of the klaxon: You can see it at 6:30mn. ps: when I was on the sidewalk I was walking!
March 20, 201412 yr That was rude and offensive honking and someone will knock you off your bike before long if you're not more careful!
