  1. I have a similar problem of a fiddly rear hub wheel removal and replacement even with proper ring spanners. So now I remove the rear disc caliper and the gear changer before loosening the hub nuts and easily removing the wheel. It may sound more work but is actually quicker and less chance the motor wiring gets caught up in the chain. I do use a slime filled inner tube to avoid punctures if possible though.
  2. Possibly your chain is over the 0.75% stretch mark? I had similar problems sorted by a new chain. Just a thought.
  3. If you ever do need a new controller I got one from Bangood. Funnily enough I bought a controller from Bangood thinking it was a brushless one (never read the description properly). On arrival I realised my mistake but decided to keep it in case MY 2000 Powerbyke controller went again.Powerbyke charged £40 fitted by my local bike shop years ago. See https://www.banggood.com/36V-1000W-Electric-Scooter-Motor-Brush-Speed-Controller-For-Vehicle-Bicycle-Bike-p-1106772.html?utm_design=41&utm_source=emarsys&utm_medium=Neworder171109&utm_campaign=trigger-emarsys&utm_content=Winna&sc_src=email_2675773&sc_eh=6e46870bd9694a591&sc_llid=1392794&sc_lid=105229698&sc_uid=o4qn7zbC41&cur_warehouse=USA Arrived OK from China with no extra to pay. On testing I thought it was duff until I realised that ' If there is no power door locks, red connection to blue' bypassed an on/off switch. God knows where they get the 1000W from but it should be fine for the powerbyke motor.
  4. Hah! Made something similar for our caravan. 4 angle pieces in pairs with long threaded rod held in place with bolts and screwed to a wood batten cut to just fit across the caravan betwwen fridge abd heater, The forks where held on with wing nuts. Cost pennies but must say yours LOOKS better!
  5. I have been using Berlingo's since 2002 bought specifically to carry 2 bikes inside. I used to drop the left hand double back seat and put the first bike in diagonally, handle bar first with the tyre touching the side door. then after a bit of foam tubing on the LH fork leg and rear stay, put the second bike in alongside but facing backwards so the handlebars fit over the first bikes saddle. strapped down to the boot floor D hooks, I have carried them for thousands of miles no bother. The original Berlingo had lots of wipeable plastic so mud was easily wiped off. The 2011 Peugeot Partner I am now using is a bit plusher so the handle bars can push into the headlining a bit, but what the hell it's a van with windows. If you have 29" wheel bikes, like a mate of mine, it is better to take out the double seat entirely, easily done in seconds on the post 2008 models, as it's hard to close the back door otherwise! Citroen Berlingo/Peugeot Partner and Fiat Doblos are cheap as chips but reliable too. All are tall enough. I doubt if the same can be said your average people carrier or SUV where you would have to lay one bike on the other and perhaps have to whip off the front wheel as well. I DID loose an MTB from a trailer, despite a padlock which pushed me into what I have now. Nice driving position too. They must be good,as very few owners ever sell!
  6. Neither are all 3 throttles on my bikes either! I just squeeze very gently with my thumb on the fixed part and the fingers on the rotating part at hold just where I won't. Just like with scooters and motorcycles long ago!
  7. I have a Witter bike rack that attaches with a plate bolted behind the tow ball. Means it can still be used when towing...try to avoid those max lock turns though! Generally rear racks are a pain if your bike does not have a normal crossbar. My Giant frames were too tight and had to fork out more buying adjustable False crossbars. Which can scratch the handle bars on a long holiday. They also got very grubby! But normally they fit inside my Berlingo. Much safer too in theft hotspots!
  8. Has the bike always had those wider wheels or they only for the fat tyres? Cos I was wondering how they fitted into the frame otherwise.
  9. Surprised nobody asked HOW the rear wheel fell out of the dropouts! If a torque plate had been fitted, say, then it might have held the wheel in long enough. No doubt the wheel nuts will be regularly checked from now on!
  10. Does 2019 have a special event then. Ah, of course BREXIT! And Zen we will be free of perfidious EU rules on Ebike motor power! I don't think I'll put my shirt on that one!
  11. Can you easily insure an ebike which is illegally powered for the UK?
  12. Having read a series of woes about Bosch motors crunching bearings, how are Yamaha for reliabilty? I fancy one in a Giant perhaps. I can live with the fact that there is a little less power at the top end since dody knees mean help at the lower speeds are more useful. Don't fancy having to pedal at a high cadence to get the maximum power though. Thoughts please. Incidently I see the price of Giant Ebikes going back up again. Perhaps it was the 2017 models which were discounted, the ones with the less sleek battery fitting.
  13. Found the fault. Your checks worked out well. When you say 20Amp ac and motor phase wires I assumed the thick motor wires. All generated a little voltage but not much. Checked continuity between the motor wires and not all 3 pairs made it. Changed the julet cable from tail of motor (pin side) with a new female side and all wires ok.I know they are connected in star? to avoid several return wires. Rejoined the original cable..it has that ominous bulge from the dodgy connections episode. The bike now worked but cut out later. Definately the new cable to be plumbed in as soon as my new solder station arrives.
  14. Perhaps you could give us the Ebay URL as I couldn't find it on Ebay, only something similar on Amazon. To think I paid around £300 after customs charges etc 3 years ago for a Bafang 350W rear hub kit sent from China.Unusual to find stuff getting cheaper! I just had to pay £24 for a replacement Julet connecting cable but that was my fault for making dodgy connections at the junction box end.The motor and controller are still fine after 3 years. Hope you get the same.
  15. All started off smoothly as I went on my usual forest trails. A slight quiet groaning from the hub which went away.( had this rarely over the past year or so). Carried on a while then noticed no help on the next uphill. Nothing. Battery lights all on. Sometimes a very slight vibration when operating the throttle. Just as well tommorow is a big storm cos I'll be in the garage trying out alternative throttle, checking the wiring and possibly swopping the controller with another. Is there a way to check if the Hall sensors are OK in the hub? I have a multimeter at the ready. I even have a spare front hub, albeit 500W rather than 350W which might tell me which section of the electrics is not working. Wish me luck!
  16. Yes! I said that as it makes search engines more accurate. If you just put in freewheel you get all sorts including cassettes.
  17. Try Amazon and others as below https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B000WFHUKQ/ref=sr_1_1_olp/262-3419391-0959234?ie=UTF8&qid=1516803383&sr=8-1&keywords=7+speed+freewheel+screw+on
  18. I use a full sized throttle on rough stuff and find it best to use my thumb wrapped around the stationary left side of the throttle and holding the required ammount of twist by a gentle sqeeze between said thumb and fingers. I used to do this on long motorway rides by motorcycle. It saves having your hand at an awkward position for long periods and is not affected by jolts. Works for me every time but only a full throttle mind.
  19. Somehow doubt if it will hold an ebike level unless it is in perfect balance. I have the Lidl one and it struggles despite a bigger jaw operated by a clamp which is easier to use than having to turn a knob whilst holding a 25kg bike level!
  20. This is actually a tale of a missing xmas parcel from relatives in Switzerland. It never arrived here in the UK.Separately we got a card from Royal Mail saying £20 odd was due on a parcel. After a call to said relatives we realised it was their parcel. We picked it up today. The customs sticker said value was 80 Swiss francs aka £56. So we got charged VAT of £12 and £8 for Royal Mail collection charge.Imported gifts over £39 between private individuals are charged VAT. I thought Switzerland was in the EU for VAT purposes! The Royal Mail man was most upset and said the Customs boys are now checking a lot more stuff and wacking on higher prices. (to pay for new Brexit custom posts?) The point of all this? Buying Ebike stuff from China could cost more than in the past as HMRC start disregarding 'optimistic' Chinese billing.
  21. Even if the battery key is removed?
  22. Argh! Telford and it's many, many rounabouts. The only place I got hopelesly lost trying to find the centre! Next time I'll use a m/c Tom Tom a mate gave me if I can find enough room on the handlebars. No camera though.
  23. Well, you are obviously a lot younger and fitter than me! I gave up trying to lift a non electric touring bike onto a roof mounted rack on a Panda! It fell over and scratched the roof too!! I tow a caravan with a Peugeot Tepee and my ebike, or 2, go in the car. However, in the past I had put bikes, with front wheel removed,in my elderly caravan, on a wooden board fitted with angle pieces and threaded rod that the forks dropped onto and secured with wing nuts. It could hold 2 bikes in this way and was positioned on the caravan floor between fridge and heater. Put the bike through the door vertically with handlebars turned in line with frame. Not for the fainthearted if your caravan is new and shiny though! But it did mean I could tow the caravan with an old BX estate with canoe and 2 bikes on the car roof and another 2 in the caravan.Arrh! those were the days!
  24. It does have a throttle though. The motor is not that powerful, so it is easy to control. Throttle has an off/on button and 3 leds. Just have to watch your thumb doesn't accidently switch it off when changing gear! As you may have guessed, I am no fan of Pedal assist!
